Absolutely horrendous.... 10/10/2011

This review is for the clinic, not for Dr. Bell. I took my dog in for her annual vaccines. I was 5 minutes early for my appointment, but ended up waiting thirty minutes for my doctor to come and get us. She still wasn't finished with her prior appointment and since my dog had a slight allergic reaction to her vaccinations the last time, she asked that I leave her with them to monitor her reaction. It seemed a little over-the-top in comparison to how minor her last reaction had been, but I went with it to be safe. I left her there for the day and got a call before I was to pick her up telling me that she did not have a reaction but they had found a heart murmur. When I went in to speak with the vet, she explained to me that heart murmurs are judged on a scale of 1-4 and that hers was between a 2-3 in severity. Naturally this completely freaked me out that my 7 year old healthy dog had suddenly developed a moderate heart murmur. The doctor gave me an estimate on the types of tests she would recommend in order to make sure there wasn't a larger problem. The estimate ran between $700-$1100. I called my hometown vet to speak with him regarding this since these prices seemed insane. He told me while most of the tests may not be necessary, that it would be wise to schedule an EKG and some blood work. I set up my appointment for the EKG and blood work a few weeks later and was put with a different doctor. Apparently no one ever bothered to check my dog's history because when I went in, they began doing the tests stating that she was getting ready for a teeth cleaning...no mention of the murmur. I decided not to correct them that we were there to check out her murmur until they had completed the EKG. The EKG read perfectly normal...they remarked that it couldn't have gone much better. I then explained to them what I had been told on my previous visit and asked if they hadn't seen any signs of it and they seemed a bit stumped. There was no murmur but they told me sometimes a murmur can occur in a dog who was in distressed (i.e. a dog who has never been boarded left at the vet for vaccines by herself?). Her bloodwork came back perfect. She's in wonderful health, which I am very grateful for and I don't mind going the extra mile for her well-being, but it seems like the ball was dropped here. First, I would think a doctor might notice a dog is distressed instead of scaring the owner that the dog has a heart problem. Secondly, why did no one notice in her records that we were following up on the previous appointment? I feel as though the clinic tries to upsell unnecessary procedures to increase the bills. About 2 months later I called to get a Certificate of Health so I could take my dog on a plane and they refused!! Apparently they needed to perform ANOTHER unnecessary exam to give me the certificate. I guess they felt they hadn't milked enough money out ot me on the other tests she had just been through. Needless to say, I'm in the market for a new vet. Beware! This places is the worst.... more

Nice People, but Very Poor Performance 1/16/2010

For the money we spent compared to what other vets charge, we were more than disappointed when they missed a nail during a de-claw procedures, which even after corrective surgery is now growing back! Once we switched vets to one that came just as highly recommended and had all the credentials and top schooling as they had, our bill for the same vet care was half! Pros: Nice People Cons: Expensive, Botched Surgery more

Dr. Cassetty - Loving care from the vets and staff, but wiped out savings. 6/21/2008

My yorkie was attacked by a big, mean, aggressive dog. There was a lot of damage to the poor little guy. As soon as it happened he obviously needed to go the vet ASAP. The closest one (across the street ) was MRAH. I brought him in and when they saw what bad shape he was in they got him into a room right away. Dr. Cassetty took wonderful care of him. She did a 3 hr. surgery on him and made arrangements for him to have all night coverage at the Pet Emergency Clinic. Dr. Cassetty and Mo were very good at explaining the situation and what I could expect as he recovered. They seemed to sincerely care about Spike and his recovery. Pros: Of the 3 vets we saw (all female) they were compassionate, knowledeable, and friendly. Cons: On the pricer side. more

Best animal hospital!! 6/18/2008

We were referred here by friends after a bad experience at a couple of other vet hospitals in town. Found the staff at Murphy Road to be very friendly, absolute animal lovers, and very knowledgable. The vets were great, and obviously know their stuff. Pros: Just like a human hospital Cons: Could have more parking more

EXTREMELY Overpriced! 3/26/2008

Last year my wife & I moved to just around the corner from Murphy Road, so we were excited to take our puppy there. After several bad experiences, we have wised-up and gotten out of there. The way they charge is so absurd, we will be telling all our friends and family to absolutely not go there. A couple of the bad experiences: our puppy was having some stomach issues; MR did several tests on him but couldn?t come up with anything definitive that was wrong with him, so they put him on sensitive stomach food. The bill that day was over $300, which seemed ridiculous but we were worried about our puppy so we saw past it. When the problem continued, we wanted to take him back for a follow-up & they had the audacity to want to charge us another $65 just to see a doctor about it! So after a $300 visit in which they couldn?t figure out the problem, they were going to charge another $65 simply to look at him again! We said no way & took him somewhere else. Pros: Some of the vets are friendly Cons: Price, value, no asking before doing tests, wait time more

Only after your money 11/8/2007

When I called to make a grooming appt. for my 9 lb. maltese I was told a hair cut would be $58. I took pictures to show them how I wanted her hair cut since it was my first time to have her groomed there. When i came to pick her up, they charged me $92....for a 9 lb. dog with no tangles or mats to be brushed or cut out!!!! They said because I brought pictures in they had to use scissors instead of sheers to cut her hair.....none of which they told me when i called or dropped her off. Then they wouldn't bring her up to me until i paid them. She looked nothing like the pictures I gave them....and I even had to ask them to trim her ears (they were exactly like they were when i dropped her off). It still looked horrible after they "tried" to fix it....so I took her home and trimmed her ears myself. Seems they willing omitted that using different instruments cost more just get more money out of me. And seemed to have no care in the world that I was not satisfied with the cut I had just paid almost $100 for, and very upset at the fact they did not inform me of the cost I was incurring by simply showing them picture to give them an idea of how I wanted her hair cut. I will NEVER take my dog back to that place again. I hope this was a helpful insight to how this poorly this business is ran and how little regard they have for their customers. Pros: None Cons: WAY over priced, no care for what you want more

Overpriced 8/28/2007

Not good with hyper pets. Overcrowding in the waiting room. Staff not very friendly. Vets are friendly, all other staff treat you as if you are a bother. Pros: If they were the only vet in town Cons: parking, layout of building, price, not patient more

They saved my pet's life 5/7/2006

I had taken my dog to two other vets. The Vet School at UT sent me here. It was like being at a human hospital. The staff was wonderful! In two days they had figured out the problem and now my "baby" is feeling fine. If your pet is sick there's no other place to go in Nashville, trust me. Pros: Staff, Amazing technology, My Dog loves going Cons: Limited Parking more

very poor service 3/30/2006

I took my pup there when we first got him. Our first visit was Ok. But later on we realized that office staff did a mistake to schedule the scond shots for our pup. more
