WORST PLACE IN MANHATTAN! 2/13/2011

This place just SUCKS. Food odors coming out of there are just awful and it really sucks when you live right behind their kitchen window (that only has a fan to evacuate all the odors!)! The place is really dirty and the manager is really sneaky and dishonest. The worst experience of my life in NYC! more

HYGIENE AND PUBLIC HEALTH CONCERNS 6/26/2010

I will cut to the chase. Having a child with severe food allergies, it is essential for people on the Upper West Side to be aware of the kind of attention or ( lack of given to Hygiene and Public Health at BARZINI on Broadway. DO NOT BUY anything that you can not actual confirm as Fresh, such as what they Falsely display and sell as BARZINI FRESHLY SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE. It is even more shocking when confronted with the problem, The Owners continue to sell with impunity what is obviously orange flavoured mix that tastes like a concentrate mixed with water. Add to this the experience of buying MOLDY bread and Cake; The last time I tried to see if they are still selling Orange drink as ""Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice"" the owner actually flavoured refused to sell it. The question is why and how BARZINI continues to conduct business despite such gross deception and public health issues. Having several times , politely informed the ""friendly"" owners and given feeble excuses, one has to conclude that , it is just the way owners of BARZINI choose to does business with impunity. Do not be fooled by the great selection of cheese, thats for the RATS as several have attested here... Pros: Convenient Location Cons: SELLS outdated moldy food, RATS Reported By shoppers. more

Too bad there is no zero star in this system. 3/16/2010

The rudest, most obnoxious mafioso type owners. The place is filthy with occasional rats zipping through the premises. The cheeses maybe cheap but they are rotten and over the hill. When there is Zabar's and Fairways within walking distance anyone who buys cheese here must be either a masochist or has no clue of what cheese should taste like. Pros: Can't think of any. Cons: Filth, rats, rotten cheese, rudest owners on the UWS. more

Great cheese selection!! 10/11/2008

They have a surprisingly great collection of imported cheese, and I find its price to be quite competitive. Other produce's quality and freshness varies, but if you look thoroughly you'll find good deals such as a bag of baby carrots for $1.39 (usually $1.99 or more in most supermarkets) or rarely found asian mushrooms such as enoki and shimeji. They even had a jar of low-fat yogurt for $1.89 (the lowest ever I witnessed in Manhattan was $2.99!) - so if you have patience to look carefully and thoroughly, this place has a lot of hidden values than it looks to possess. Nice to have such a grocer on 90's! Pros: Great cheese collection, occasional good deals Cons: Need to check the quality of produce very carefully more

AWFUL 6/24/2002

AWFUL! Produce is moldy, manager is uncooperative. Avoid this place at all costs! Go somewhere else! more
