What a previous commenter stated as ""gruff"", I find the best part of my visits with Dr. Bartos, and I've sent three other friends/relatives to her and all say the same thing. The Doctor is smart, thoughtful and straight forward. more

I am very unsatisfied with the services Dr. Bartos gave me. She listened to what I had to say, but that's the end of the positives. She said she thought I have IBS, but seemed irritated when I asked her to explain to me what that is, giving me a two sentence answer in a gruff tone. At one point, she said my recent drop off in exercise could have exacerbated my symptoms, but when she concluded with her recommendations/ prescriptions, she did not make any comments regarding exercise. She also made no comments regarding diet (a typical component of IBS treatment I later found out). She ordered unnecessary blod tests, which the nurse told me they do for everyone (my friends who are doctors later told me there was no reason for her to test my blod, and that some doctors do that to get more money from insurance companies). She left the room without saying good bye, or responding to my comment ""thank you for your help."" As I was leaving the patient room, I saw a jar on a table labeled ""ashes of problem patients,"" making me think she views patients as a burden. I've been a patient of Dr. Bartos for several years and she is great. Before I started seeing her I went to a large group practice where I never knew which doctor I was going to see during a visit and I felt like a number. Because she not part of a large group office, every time I make an appointment I know that I am going to see her. Dr. Bartos is also willing to work with patients who don't have insurance, and offers a discount to uninsured patients who pay the bill at the time of the visit. Also, when you have an appointment she and her staff are prompt. She also spends time with the patients, I feel that she cares about her patients. I tried to schedule an appointment with Dr. Bartos as a new patient, since a good friend had recommended her. The first available appointment was 1 month away. After I went ahead and scheduled it, the front desk staff said they require all new patients to leave their MasterCard or Visa number on file with them, because they will charge $50 for no-shows on the 1st visit. When I expressed discomfort leaving my credit card info with them by phone, they said I would have to come in and leave a $50 deposit before making the appointment -- ""we work kind of like a hotel"" is what I was told. I have never had that experience with a medical professional. I am a medical professional myself, and I do understand the inconvenience of no-shows (not to mention the loss of income when that happens!), but it seems unethical in my opinion to require an up-front deposit of money of all patients BEFORE they can see the doctor. I just wonder what happens to people who don't have credit cards, or who don't have the money to place in deposit -- do they just get booted out the door? Maybe this is the ""new"" way of doing medicine, but I've never heard of it, and find it very questionable. Pros: I don't know, as I'm not scheduling an appt. Cons: needs that cash up-front! more

I have seen Dr. Bartos for three years prior to moving out of state, and now plan on seeing her again upon moving back to Austin. She is a wonderful doctor, who takes her time with patients and LISTENS without making you feel rushed. Her staff has always been polite and attentive to my needs. It is a great office, and always seems to be right on time with their schedule without much waiting. more

My 80 year old father has been seeing Dr. Bartos for 15 years. So I started going. She's fantastic, got right to the root of my problems and corrected them. She is very no-nonsense and if you are looking for a shoulder to cry on, she's not the doc for you. But if you want someone to shoot straight and tell you how to solve the problem, she's a fantastic physician. My father is alive today because of her efforts. I do not recommend Dr. Bartos. I've had to call Dr. Bartos on two separate instances over the weekend. Both times she acted put off by being called despite the fact that she was ""on call"". In addition, she was very dismissive about the reason I was calling and said she had not heard of the symptoms I was describing. She was both rude and short with me. I'm not impressed with her at all and have found a new Primary Care doc. more

Dr. Bartos has been my personal physician for more than ten years. When I visit her I feel that I am talking to a personal friend who takes an interest in me as a person and is willing to listen even to those little things that I might think too trivial to bring to a physician. She has a practical, common-sense approach and hates medical hype and pretense, but she is also compassionate, open to alternative approaches (when safe and justifiable), and has a strong sense of social responsiblity. more

During my first visit, Dr. Bartos talked with me for over an hour, listening attentively to my concerns and what was going on in my life. She's a confident, compassionate, and responsive physician that I trust highly. Pros: good parking, short wait time, convenient location more

Dr. Bartos was dismissive of my concerns and scornful of alternative, non-Western approaches. She was also nasty when I requested copies of my immunization forms. I would not recommend her to anyone. more

Dr. Bartos is wonderful...after 8 doctors and 2 years of trying to figure out what was wrong with me - she did it in just a couple of visits. I HIGHLY recommend her, she listens and is a highly skilled physician. more

After finding great doctors and having them move on because of clinic/hospital politics, I am so grateful to have found Dr. Bartos.
