Very Disappointed... 10/12/2011

I'm fairly new to the area and took my dog there when I first arrived. The job they did was good. I went back 6 weeks later for a "trim" and flea shampoo, if needed. My dog is on a flea and heart program and has always been "Flea Free" more

a sorry state of affairs 9/24/2011

I was one of this shops first customers. Brought my little one here for many years; alwaysrequested the same "natural" haircut. One evening I picked her up and she had a beard like a schnauzer. WHAT?! The groomer said she must have gotten confused when she reviewed the card and apologized for not having time to fix it. So, I went home and trimmed it myself. Next time I dropped my little one off , I was talking to the owner and mentioned the beard and asked to be sure to do the natural. Out of seemingly nowhere, he shouted at me and told me that my dog was old and had a sore mouth and it was more important for her to be comfortable than for the haicut to please me. I stuttered and said that I was unaware that my dog had ever had a sore mouth. Then I left and cried my eyes out. When I picked my little one up she looked fine and we said goodbye for the last time. Never went back again, never heard anything. I groomed my baby for the rest of her life. And did a fine job :) more

My VERY shy beagle goes to The Barking Lot for baths and so forth - and she loves going! They are so great with her and patient and gentle. I highly recommend this place. Real caring professionals! Bailey and I give them 2 paws up! more

The ONLY Groomers for my dogs! 10/1/2009

I've been taking my dogs to The Barking Lot for 15 years. Had a wonderful Springer Spaniel who had awful skin allergies and, if not treated correctly, would get infections. When I asked my Vet if I should keep a grooming appointment when she had a particularly bad breakout, he at first said no and then asked where I took her to be groomed. I told him I took her to The Barking Lot and he told me to go ahead and keep the appointment; that he'd trust Steve to take care of her. Working around that dog's breakouts had to be like clipping around land mines, but she was always perfectly done. Steve would even ask me if I wanted to bring my own shampoo to see that she got the exact prescription and no new or irritating chemicals. Because the prescribed treatment caused some stinging, he would give her a soothing oatmeal bath to alleviate the discomfort after the treatment was completed. I truly think her care at The Barking Lot helped her avoid skin infections and kept her alive and healthy longer. She passed away a few years ago at the ripe old age of 17 1/2 and they still ask about her when I take my other two dogs in. Pros: Caring and totally professional service Cons: none more

Greatest Groomers in richmond 4/21/2008

I have just read the review from UnleashedRD. Boy does this perso have the wrong place. I think she must be off. If my boy had such a bad experience as she describes, I'd never take him back the second time. more

The Real Deal 4/8/2008

I travel 30+ miles to get to The Barking Lot. I pass many other pet grooming locations on the way but would never dream of stopping at any of them. They just don't come any better than The Barking Lot. My cherished Basset Hound, affectionately considered my "son", was given the royal treatment for 9 years. He grew to love the shop and Steve and his employees grew to love Skeeter. He was always expertly groomed, toe nails perfect, long Basset ears clean as a whistle. He was always ready when I arrived and was in a great mood - I think he knew how good he looked! Skeeter had arthritis and joint issues and the folks at the Barking Lot were not only gentle with him, but provided padded cushions and mats to keep him feeling his best. When my sweet Skeeter passed away, the entire staff shared their sympathies and memories with me; something you just don't find unless people truly care. Pros: Dependable, expert grooming techniques, loving care, go the extra mile Cons: Absolutely none more

Best in Richmond 3/26/2008

I have been going to the Barking Lot with my dog for about 8 years. I have had wonderful experiences with the employees. They give excellent service and are always helpful when it comes to the care of my dog. My dog has a bad back and they are always extra careful to ensure that he is treated well. I am not sure where the negative comments are coming from in some of the other reviews, but I really find it impossible that any of the comments are true. I highly recommmend the Barking Lot to all my friends with pets. You are the best in the Richmond metro area. Many thanks! Pros: Best in Richmond Cons: None! more

Tender loving care 3/23/2008

I've been using Steve and his wonderful groomers for over 15 years and find them friendly and caring. They always treat my Bouv with tender loving care and clip her to my specifications, rather than sticking to a 'standard' look. She consistently is well groomed and looks great when I pick her up! I appreciate their flexibility in keeping Uri and me happy. Although bathing and clipping are not her favorite things to do every three weeks, Uri gladly prances to the back and takes her spot, knowing that those tending to her care about her! Pros: wonderful people Cons: can't think of any more

Perfect Pooch Pampering! 3/12/2008

My visits to the Barking Lot are always happy occasions for both me and my dog. The owner greets us by name and always puts us both at ease; not only with professionalism and courtesy, but with kindness and a gentle understanding of my pet's needs. Everyone on staff is friendly and extremely skilled, so my pup always looks like a million bucks when I pick him up.Not to mention that my dog always comes home happy too. For you and your pet: the Barking Lot is THE place to do business. Pros: Gentle animal handling combined with skilled grooming! Cons: none more

Best Grooming Shop in Richmond! 3/6/2008

I have been affiliated with the Barking Lot in Richmond for many years. I would not trust my dogs or cats to cared for by any other grooming shop in Richmond. In business for over 20 years, Steve Boschen, the owner, is very knowledgeable about all dog breeds and has a wonderful practical approach to finding the best haircut for your pet that fits both the pet's personality, needs and lifestyle. Honest, fair and reasonable, the Barking Lot does what is best for your pet rather than what is best for their pocketbook. Pros: Centrally located in the city Cons: Parking can be tricky during the morning rush. more
