This being the third experience with this hospital, I urge you to go elsewhere for medical treatment. My mother (85 years old) went in for a very low pulse rate, and low BP and was treated well in the ER by the PA. The MD's couldn't be bothered...nursing staff seemed overwhelmed though well-meaning. After a 7 hour wait in the ER she was admitted and things quickly went downhill! The waits for testing were hours on end...no communication as to what was happening nor what to expect. After a stress test was done she waited in the hallway for over an hour for ""transport"" to bring her back to her room. This test ended up taking over 4 hours..I had to seek her out and found her on a stretcher alone in a hall with blood pressure sky high! Thankfully a kind woman from HR (I believe..I did not get her name) helped me look for her as I had asked the nursing staff several times to find out where she was and got no satisfaction. The care got worse from here, unfortunately. It was deemed that she needed a pacemaker (the PA in the ER originally said this) and she was scheduled for the procedure. The procedure was done...taking 4 times the allotted time,. I waited to hear something for 4 hours, again being told the doctor would come out and talk with me. He was apparently late for a speech at Boswell hospital because the procedure had gone over time because the leads had come loose and needed to be reseated (It needed to be done again!) , so he rushed off without talking with me. Giving me this information was an error in judgment for the assistant, I am sure, but equally sure this was the truth. I have been a health care professional (retired) for more than 30 years, so I kinda got the hang of it!!! Because the procedure took much longer than scheduled, her medications wore off and she was in such pain and had a lot of anxiety. Her BP was over 200 at this point. Getting back to her room, finally, she was fawned over for the first hour, then didn't see another person for hours. I helped her go the the bathroom and feed her. Her telephone did not ring (we asked that a repairman come to look at it on arrival, but no one came), but the red light would blink during a call, but she could not hear anything, so missed many concerned calls during this time. Also, the roommates she was assigned, were hard of hearing and had TV's at full volume..people speaking at 3 times normal and there was NO privacy at all. The crowning blow was upon discharge when after 7 hours of waiting once she was told she could go, the nurse told her about the assessment she would be asked to file. She said a nine would mean they had failed, so give them tens!! I wanted to deck her, and state that a one would have been too much, but held my tongue just to get out of there!! I had to ask for discharge instructions, that were then printed from the computerized instruction. We were ready to go home and told that it would be another 30 minutes(keep in mind we had waited nearly 5 1/2 hours already) before transport could come, and after a bit of whispering and begging (after my threat to leave with or without help). The nurse then told me that if we left, the insurance company (Medicare) would not pay Finally, an aide was coereced into taking us down to the parking area and off we went. What a horrendous experience this was, no care, no sleep, no privacy......... Reason enough to leave this area. The care was sub-standard at best, and possibly illegal. My mother has already been harassed to ""pay up"" and she hasn't even been home 24 hours!!!!!! Go elsewhere for your care. These people only care about BILLING!!! Patients are not even part of their equation............. more

I visited this place several times in my life as it is the only hospital close to my home, but from now on if I can avoid it I will. The last few times I have been there they immediately go to the pain killers, they placate you for as long as they can and since they are in a position of some power you can easily smell the arrogance in the air. What has become of us as human beings that we are treating each other like cattle? I was just recently with a friend inside the ER and she was curled up in extreme pain, the PA(physician's assistant) grabbed her elbow and caressed it and told her she'd be fine and then instructed her to get down from where they examined her and he left. Took another two hours for them to help with the pain. I wish I really do wish I could names, but the bottom line is avoid this place at all costs. Go to another hospital if you can. I would hate to have a real emergency and end up dead because I went to del webb. My wife died in this place and four years on they still send the worst of the worst out of medical school to this place. I hope one day we as humans will finally understand we are not GOD and we will never know everything. Pros: The volunteers. Cons: Emergency room, service. more

Ghoulish 10/28/2009

My elderly mom did not know she suffering from a urinary tract infection. It causes sudden change in mental status. She started to panic over a pain in her arm. The Dr. in the ER who does not know my mom from a whole in the wall, did not test for a UTI, he just thought she was having a panic attack and prescribed Xanax. Within 24 hours my mother started having a psychotic break with extreme paranoia and also fixated on death. Her own doctor could do nothing but send her to the hospital and had no privileges there, so my mom's own doctor had zero to say about her care. \r \r Back in the ER they put her in the psych unit and the devil doctors loaded her with meds and diagnosed bi-polar disorder (which she never had in her life) and loaded her poor elderly body up with benzos, halidol and lithium, turning her into a drooling zombi. Realizing she had a UTI they also gave her anti-biotics, finally. After her insurance maxed out, she was judged ""okay"" and sent on her way home by the devil docs. She was in bed 20 hours a day, totally weakened and dazed and drinking 2 quarts of water as an effect of the lithium nightmare drug. I eventually got her to a really good Psychiatrist unaffiliated with Demon Hosp Del Webb and he took her off all the meds. Said she never was bi-polar. His diagnosis was sudden mental problem due to UTI, and then exacerbated by benzos (xanax and adavan) ordered in the hospital to keep her calm and meek ala the snake pit. Once she was out of the demon docs' hands and off the meds she came back to her old self. \r \r What a nightmare, I would not wish this on anyone. Elderly people are being given drugs that their old bodies cannot handle and treated like a meal ticket for this ghoulish institution. \r \r Beware. Pros: none - pretty? Cons: bad docs, bad staff, bad admin, personal doc cannot visit more

Would not take a sick dog there! 4/28/2009

The facility is pretty, the wait time is short, but the medical staff is incompetent. My daughter was taken here for a myriad of problems that included a very high fever. All her issues were indicative of the flu, and this all came at the height of the Swine flu outbreak. We pushed to have a flu test done regardless of the medical staff's lack of desire to do it. The doctor was actually suggesting we do a catheter (on a perfectly potty trained little girl) to check for urinary tract infection. Even thought she had classic flu symptoms. The finally did the flu swab and completely botched it! We have several medical professionals in our family. All of them agreed that a flu swab is about the most basic test you can do. The test comes in kits, and is as simple as doing an at home pregnancy test. With dummy labels and the whole nine yards. With the conventional swab they used during the test (a swab that is NOT small enough to fit in the nasal passage), and the way they acted directly after the test I am actually doubting they even did the test. They sure did charge for it though. Since it was a Sunday I had to wait till Monday to take her to the Ped. to have it done correctly. That means more money out the door. Hospitals are expensive as everyone knows. So you'd think they could get it right. We had another swab done, and guess what. POSITIVE! To add insult to injury, the nurse actually told me that she just had allergies. I would feel sorry for anyone going to this hospital expecting, even adequate, care. Especially, if they don’t have medical professionals in their family to fall back on for advice. Now we have to quarantine her and have her tested to find out what specific strain she has. Yippy. Hope no one got infected after we were told it was just allergies. Good luck if you go here! Pros: Pretty building, short wait. Cons: Incompetent staff. more

Avoid at all costs 6/22/2008

I worked at Del Webb as an RN not too long ago and was shocked at the low standards and level of care patients received here. The administrators were more interested in "keeping sweet" and pretending to care than in change for the better. Even the doctors would sometimes find it difficult not to vent about the appalling conditions at this hospital. I have worked at many hospital facilities as a highly rated RN/BSN in my field and never saw a place where I truly feared for my license on the basis of poor administration. For example, we (as RN's) would write urgent orders to be processed by the clerks into the computers only to find that they are still sitting on the desk 3 hours later untouched while the clerk is off on a coffee break. And on reporting this type of activity, nothing is done. It's ridiculous and I look forward to this hospital closing in the near future as I'm sure it will because of patient lawsuits. Pros: Attractive hospital Cons: Dangerously low levels of care, untimely handling of urgent situations more
