I've never felt more DUPED!!!! 8/12/2008

So my 2 year membership expired last December. I was glad because I really didn't enjoy the gym. They made a bunch of changes switching all the equipment around and it was 100 percent different from when I first started. So here it is in August, 9 months since my membership ended and I have a debt collection agency after me. Apparently Planet Fitness still continues to charge you (at a discounted rate) even after your membership ends. I only found this out because I switched credit cards. I looked back at previous statements and sure enough I was being charged 19 bucks a month since my membership ran out. So they tell me that I need to fill out a form and cancel in person or write a certfied letter requesting my membership be cancelled or they go on charging you. This is stange to me considering my membership ENDED in Dec. Whatever , it is what it is. I don't always check bank statements. And when I did I guess I didn't notice the 19 bucks being withdrawn. So all in all I lost about 180 dollars because I officially didn't cancel my membership even though it already ended. I don't know if other people fall into this trap or Im the only one. I just don't think its too much to ask for a letter telling us the situation right around the time our membership is due to expire. more

Membership staff dreadful 3/6/2005

I joined, however, despite the incredibly nasty head membership staff person because the classes were so interesting: mat pilates, karoake spinning, and a favorite (much to the surprise of people who know me), cardio-striptease. Unfortunately now Crunch has been bought by Bally Fitness. While this has expanded the venues (for which I am pleased), it also means the interesting classes are gone, and I don't plan on signing up here again. Pros: Formerly classes Cons: Classes gone, Nasty membership ppl, Really loud music more

Editorial
  • In Short
When Planet Fitness opened its Downtown Crossing club in November 1997, other Boston gym owners were shaking in their top-of-the-line sneaks. As it turns out, Planet Fitness is not the gym to end all gyms after all. Sure, it boasts all new equipment and just about the best real estate a gym could have. But rather than becoming the city's preeminent health club, Planet Fitness has become just another convenient place for Financial District types to work out.
