My business partner and I stay at the Balboa Inn Hotel several times each year while consulting for nearby clients. We heard about this great Newport Beach oceanfront hotel from ...

Worst

The beds seemed ancient, there was noise coming from every angle of the hotel from the street below. When I complained to the Owner, He offered to let me stay in there resort area...

We just got back from our tenth year in a row; a very wonderful vacation at the Balboa Inn. Being an avid history lover, we just love this wonderful quaint hotel. more

The staff is amazing... from the time we checked in with, Laura, to the restaurant & bar with, Heather... The GM, Raymond went out of his way @ every availability to make sure our stay was first class, relaxing, everything we expected! Raymond even helped us get a reservation for a young military couple who had their wedding there, but could not afford to stay there. more

I highly recommend this hidden jewel of a place... we are local residents, & it feels like we got away to an island vacation. more

The location is ideal.. right in the heart of downtown Balboa, close to the Boardwalk & ferry, right at the base of the Balboa pier, lots of restaurants close by... although we love the food at their restaurant. You can stay in, or go for long walks, or hit the night scene, or enjoy the any site seeing attractions offered on the bay (boat rentals, cruises, fishing, bike rentals, etc) or just enjoy the ocean, which is literally right outside the doors of the inn. more

My husband & I have stayed at the Balboa Inn now several times... we love it there !!! The rooms are beautiful !!! We have stayed in the quaint & charming smaller rooms, and this last visit we stayed in one of the suites, spacious & gorgeous :-) Both rooms were lovely, clean, inviting, relaxing... next time we will try to get one of the ocean front suites !!! more

The location is perfect; a short walk to the beach and a variety of places to eat. The staff is friendly and helpful. We read some reviews that claimed otherwise, as well as the hotel being dirty, but we did not find it so. The area is a famous destination for travelers, as well as popular with southern ca residents, so some noise is to be expected, but, although we like quiet, we did not have any trouble sleeping or enjoying ourselves. more

I have stayed at this hotel for many years and have loved the experience every time. The location is unbeatable, the proximity to the beach, pier, fun zone, restaurants and bars is unmatched in the area. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the rooms are clean with an amazing oatmeal bar soap that my husband and I love. Opening the windows you get an amazingly crisp ocean breeze and you are literally just steps from the beach. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, as it truly is a great hotel and in the heart of Balboa. more

My husband, sister in law and myself decided to take a last minute trip to the beach and decided to stay at this hotel. Its right by the beach and pier. It is walking distance to a couple of fun bars and shops. The hotel room was nice. The bath tub is huge and the beds are extremely comfortable. The TVs are old and small but we didn't come to watch TV. There was a complimentary continental breakfast outside which was lovely. The wifi is free. The only problem we had was that our key stopped working a couple of times but the staff was really friendly and quick to help us out. I highly recommend this place. The price wasn't bad at all either. We stayed in a room with 2 beds and it ran us about 167 plus tax. The only real downfall is that you have to pay for parking. more

My family & I have been coming to this very charming hotel for over ten years. After renting local beach houses we decided to give it a try & never ever regretted our decision. We love Laura at the front desk, of course Michele the owner all of the staff, and especially Mario. After 35 1/2 years of marriage with vacations in Germany, locally in San Francisco, Santa Barbara, the Wrigley Mansion on Catalina Island, Furnace Creek in Death Valley, up & down the coast the Balboa Inn is always a must, something we look forward to & never, ever a disappointment. Can't wait till July of this year to once again return to this unique local gem of a hotel. more

We had two adjoining rooms in the newly renovated part of the hotel. The rooms were on the second floor with balconies and fantastic views of the beach. The rooms were very clean and newly updated. The staff was excellent and extremely helpful - the best customer service I've experienced at a hotel in a long time. The location was perfect. The hotel is within two minutes walking distance of several restaurants, shops and bars. Overall it was one of the most enjoyable places I've stayed in a while. We had a great time and would definitely go back. The only drawback - $18 per night to park your car. Thanks to the staff for a wonderful stay! more

The good news is this hotel is in a great location just steps from the sand. You are difinately paying for the location.\r The room was basic but clean The bed was comfortable. There is shopping and dinning within walking distance. I love the ""nastalgic beach of days gone by feeling"" it was charming and warm. I would diffinately stay at the Inn again. You wont be disappointed if you can afford the stay.\r \r overall I did enjoy my stay more

I recently held a sales meeting at this hotel and included my VP of Sales from Atlanta, Georgia. She got there a day early and called me immediately to comment on how 'cute and quaint' the hotel was. She was very impressed! I brought in 10 sales reps from all of California who not only raved about the rooms but also the food and the service. I have to honestly say that the staff at this hotel was amazing!!! So typical of California; low key and aiming to please!! They enhanced our experience. The rooms were in the new wing, just built last Summer. Not only did they have the typical plasma TV's but were also decorated in the latest fashion; total cedar closets, jacuzzi tubs, great color schemes, wood floors.\r I plan to have another meeting at this totally cool hotel. I also plan to visit on a quiet weekend alone with my husband!!\r You won't go wrong with a reservation here........REALLY!!!! more

My son and I spent a week at the Balboa in June and it was everything I could have hoped for - and more! The hotel is just an easy stroll away from the beach and pier and just slightly farther from the Fun Zone where there is an arcade for the kids, boat trips around the harbor and access to Balboa Island. There are many nice restaurants and shops, a pharmacy and grocery store all within walking distance. And the hotel was absolutely marvelous. The staff was very friendly and paid close attention to our every need. The restaurant in the hotel had good food and the best people staffing it. I never saw anything but nice smiles and good greetings. The room was immaculate and thoroughly cleaned every day. There was plenty of hot water for showers and my son had the greatest fun in the jacuzzi Air conditioning kept the room perfectly cool during the night but we opened the windows during the day to bring in that wonderful breeze off the ocean. Each morning we ate the complimentary breakfast on the patio just a few steps away from our room. How nice to have your morning coffee while watching the waves break over the beach and hear the booming surf. It is not a ""cheap"" hotel, but you get what you pay for and we got excellent value for our dollar. Would I go back? In a heartbeat!! more

Granted folks from Kansas are not use to oceans of water. Our stay here was the perface experiance. We wanted to stay near the beach and we found the perfact place. We were able to walk (less than 100 yards) to the beach to experiance the most beautiful sunrise. The rooms were very comfortable and nastalgic, the beds were soft, and with the ocean breezes coming in the window everything was perfact. Folks that complain about the facilites and the neighbors need to go back to the hilton with thier noses in the air. If you want to relax at the beach this is the place for you. more
