INEDIBLE BAD FOOD POORLY SERVED 8/3/2008

WOW,,,, DROVE 40 MILES BASED ON ON-LINE REVIEWS ONLY TO BE MET BY A RESTAURANT THAT SHOULD BE OUT OF BUSINESS. THE FOOD WAS TASTELESS AND INEDIBLE. THE GOOD REVIEWS MUST HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY BAHOOKA FAMILY MEMBERS... CAUTION. more

Great place to get a drink, date and appetizers 8/20/2007

Drinks were great, exotic and the place was atmospheric. Good place to take a date or just hang out with some friends. A good amount of people, but not crowded and enough background ""talk"" from other people, but not enough to interfere with your conversation. more

Great Drinks and Atmosphere 7/16/2007

Went here for the first time on a first date. The atmosphere is so charming, quiet, and dark! Perfect for a first date. We shared a bowl for 2, called the Firefly. It was yummy and had us a little tipsy afterwards! The food is nothing to write home about , but my stuffed shrimp were yummy. I'd say stick to appetizers like shrimp and finger foods and you wont go wrong. I would love to come back to grab a drink with friends and enjoy the surroundings, the place has fish everywhere you look. Service was good and it was a great place to chat and chill. It is worth the drive for the experience alone. I say its a must do at least once in your life! Pros: Great drinks and atmosphere Cons: Not so great for dinner, appetizers only more

Bahooka- an establishment as unique as its name. 7/12/2007

I have been patronizing this establishment since I was too young to drink up until now when I'm too old to drink. That covers about 35 yrs or so and I still get the feeling of being somewhere cool and very far away evertime I go there. Pros: Service, atmosphere, the drinks, the dark private booths, the drinks, ribs Cons: eventually, you have to go home more

BEST TROPICAL MIXED DRINKS OUTSIDE OF HAWAII 6/3/2007

Open since 1967, the Bahooka Ribs & Grog is known as the ?working man?s Trader Vic?s restaurant? offering seafood, steaks, ribs, and the BEST reasonably-priced, most prolific menu of TROPICAL mixed drinks found outside the state of Hawaii: the Blue Hawaii, the Pina Colada, the Hurricane, the Zombie, and many others are all here. Some of them are flaming drinks and some arrive with the traditional paper umbrellas, fresh pineapple spear, and maraschino cherries. But be forewarned: Their alcoholic drinks are STRONG. The restaurant?s ambience has a dark, ?Gilligan?s Island,? shipwreck-decor. You may need to bring a discreet mini-flashlight to read the menu. There are 105 illuminated aquariums filled with fish?as pets?to admire and occasionally, you can hear The Beach Boys? music in the background. Some reviewers have criticized the food. Compared to fine steak and seafood restaurants, they're right. However, the food at the Bahooka IS generally good and above average, with some entrees made better than others. Highly recommended are their Dinner Menu entrees such as the Ham Steak with Pineapple Ring; the New York Steak Dinner; and the ?Exotic Ribs? Dinner (pork spareribs). The ham is thick and juicy, the NY steak is lean and flavorful, and the spareribs are lean, very meaty, and basted with a tasty BBQ sauce. Seafood selections here are limited, but the ?Catch of the Day? fish specials are seldom a disappointment. Their ?House Salad? is served ice cold with a tasty Thousand Islands salad dressing. Dinner rolls are warm, soft and flavorful. And their side dish of ?Steak Fries? is some of the best I?ve ever tasted?fresh, hot, crispy, and not overdone. VERY generous food portions, too. I love this place for its unique ambience, good food, great tropical drinks, and the friendly service. Unfortunately for me, this is the LAST Bahooka Ribs & Grog location?there used to be more of them scattered throughout the San Gabriel Valley during the 1970s. Pros: Original and unique ambience. Ask to ""sit in jail"" area. Plenty of free parking in back. Cons: The low wattage lightbulbs hanging directly over the dining tables are too dim. more

Great Food, Great Drinks, Great Atmosphere, Great Place! 5/11/2007

It's quiet, peaceful, relaxing, and even romantic. I have taken my share of dates there. I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, but I still stop by when I can. They are well known for their ribs and I'm never disappointed by them. The tropical drinks are great and usually on fire. Kids like that and they like to watch the fish too. Each booth has it's very own fish tank! So many reasons to come here besides the food. more

The maze 3/22/2007

I have lived by this ""restaurant"" my whole life and i barely ventured into it about a year ago. All I have to say is-Dont get drunk in there because you wont be able to find your way out! haha Pros: Cool atmosphere Cons: Food isnt that good. more

Weird but cool 11/17/2006

If you are looking for a gourmet meal... or even a good meal, go elsewhere. But if you are looking for an evening of fishgazing and a bowl of alcohol, this is just your spot. More of an experience than a restaurant, but worth the jaunt at least once. more

Great portions! 9/19/2006

Ahoy matey and welcome to Bahookas. This a great place for dates and large groups alike. While the menu isn't big (like I'm used to at other establishments), the food and portions are great. Word to the wise: DON'T EAT BEFORE COMING TO BAHOOKA. Pros: food, ambience, service Cons: parking more

Food's good, drinks are great 9/27/2005

There is a menu disparity; plenty of drink variety, no food variety. Food served in healthy portions, I would not recommend any soup or chowder, though. The draws here are the drinks and the fishtanks. Pros: Large drink menu, dimly lit, good jump-off spot Cons: Small food menu more

Try ""Pile of Ribs"" for Lunch 9/12/2004

I am a 60`s Tiki Lounge culture lover!! This is my most favorite restaurant&bar to visit! Please try their lunch special ""Plile of Ribs"". Very yummy generous amount of ribs and choice of 2 side+table rolls for under $6.00. my favorite drink>co-co-nut! 9/13/2004) For UPDATE I went Bahooka yesterday for lunch. I was so disappointed because they REMOVED Pile of Ribs LUNCH from the WEEKEND. We received a menu, and didn`t see Pile of Ribs anymore, so we asked a waiter who is serving us everytime. He told us ""NO, NO, we don`t serve that on weekend"" like nothing change happened. We all saw our face each other like ???. I understand sometimes restaurant changes menu, but it was their special. so he could at least tell us they stooped serving it. I heard another customer was calling up about that issue. Under new management?? Pros: ambience, real retro decor, tropical cozy music Cons: toilet more

A Honey Bowl For Two... 6/27/2002

Fear and Loathing at The BAHOOKA! I love this place! It is one of the last remaining Tiki restaurants in CA. Mediocre food at best, so dinner is out of the question. I had what was supposed to be salmon-yet, tasted unlike any kind of salmon I've ever had. The Flamin' drinks in huge bowls for two or even four are a plus as is the decor. A great after work bar for people who truly appreciate everything that was cool about the 60's Polynesian, nautical, tiki, tiki Hang. A must Visit - At least once in your life! Pros: Grog, The FISH tanks, Ambience Cons: Mediocre food more

TIKI, TIKI, TIKI 5/20/2002

The food at this joint isn't outstanding, as a matter of fact it's a bit greasy, depending on what you order...The 2 reasons to visit Bahooka's; the drinks and atmosphere. Drinks are stiff, and about average in price, they even offer some specialty drinks with funny names, and some on fire. A low ceiling building with wall to wall fish tanks and very very large fish is pretty much the decor. This place has every last detail covered when it comes to decorating this lost island. This is definitely a place for kids as well as adults. No reservations needed for 2-4 people. Price is about $20-&25 per person which includes a pretty large dinner and a drink. Pros: Drinks, Decor, Service Cons: Food a bit greasy more

Lost World 5/13/2002

The nautical-meets-junkyard decor and the 1-to-1 aquarium ratio just barely make up for the lackluster tropical cocktails. Still, it's worth a stop for a glimpse at the outlandish setting, but don't even bother with the ho-hum food. more
