Best

I can't say how much I love this restaurant! I am a regular of bacar and every time I go it gets better and better! We always get our same table (if you request it, they normally ...

Worst

Very disappointing meal, expensive entrees and poorly executed-the halibut had amost foul tasting sauce on it, the wild salmon had a fishy taste and the little crab cake that came...

Took my Father for his 60th Birthday.... the food was exquisite and the wine we had was amazing (although it took me a while to pick it with the selection on offer). Our server (Paul) was attentive but not at our table every 10 seconds. The atmosphere was great and the jazz was cool. It is expensive, but if you want cheap and cheerful, go somewhere else! Pros: Food and wine, atmosphere, service Cons: Expensive more

My one visit left me very unimpressed. The wine bar is fun and has a great selection of wines by the glass. I ordered the scallops for an appetizer and the pork chop as an entree. I found both bland and tasteless. The pork chop was disgustingly sweet. The space is great. I might check it out again for the wine bar. Pros: wine bar Cons: food more

I Believe Reservations! 3/23/2006

I've dined at bacar regularly and have enjoyed it everytime.. I also dined during the "Dine about Town" month and equally enjoyed it. If previous reviewers were internet savvy they would have know that Bacar as well as MANY other restaurants did not participate in the Dine About Town menus on Fridays and Saturdays, some even on Thursdays. It clearly stated it on the Dine About Town Website!, get the facts right before bashing a great restaurant. Pros: music, parking, full bar/wine list Cons: loud more

Don't believe 'reservation' 1/16/2006

I had a rservation for a large party at this place for this past Friday night as one of the Dine About Town participants, however, they chose not to honor the reservation because they are sooooooooo booked up now. The hostess who called was rude and they have disappointed nine residents of San Francisco who have now in turn asked everyone they know to NEVER go there again. Pros: rude hostess, poor service, noisy more

My girlfriend and I went to Bacar after a night of theatre. We were promptly seated. The wait staff was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the wines and menu. The wine list was extensive. We had the white corn chowder, black mussels, sea bass, rack of lamb and panna cotta. The food was fantastic and it exceeded our expectations. So good we were full but could not stop eating. The décor reminded me of restaurants in NYC and the live jazz made the environment complete. It was one of the best dining experiences in the Bay Area. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: food, wine, staff Cons: none more

Go only for the band and wine 9/3/2005

Food: terrible & expensive; you can get better at McDonald's Wine: pricey, but worth it Ambience: go there after 9pm to enjoy the Jazz band Service: head waiter gave directions on where we could sit instead of taking us to our table. I'm very serious about awful the food is. Not only that, but entrees are $30 a pop. Take my recommendation: eat dinner else where and come here a little before 9pm to enjoy the wine and band. Pros: wine, band Cons: food, food, food more

What a night 5/23/2005

Bacar lived up to the hype. You walk into a beautiful restuaurant in and you hear great live Jazz right away. From there the night just got better. The winelist is extensive to say the least, but the wines by the glass is where it is at. The 60 some odd choices and the different size pours from small tastes to getting 1/3 or 2/3 a bottle with the small decanters. The food is very good but not the most memoriable part of the evening. The atmosphere is almost as exciting as the wine list. It is very young and energized feel in the place. At 9:00 PM the whole bar area was packed as we got a drink before we were seated. Very lively and fun. The food is a bit overprice but not outragous. Try the ribeye, it might be the best in the city. Pros: great winelist, atmosphere, live music Cons: need a reservation, out of the way more

Having read all the negative reviews, I must have gone to a different restaurant. I had an amazing culinary experience at Bacar in a cool, yet comfortable setting. The food, wine, service, and atmosphere were all of superior quality. Not only did I truly enjoy the possibility to taste all different types of wine (with 2 ounce pours available of over 60 wines and 1400 wines offered by the bottle), the server was extremely knowledgeable in her recommendations of both food and wine. I think the reason I especially enjoyed my evening at Bacar was because I felt like I was truly being taken care of by the staff. As to the cost, it is not cheap, but you feel like you get what you pay for and more. I would unhesitatingly recommend Bacar to anyone looking for a fantastic meal, a great wine list, and a friendly staff. Pros: Food, Wine, Service more

We went to Bacar the other night to celebrate a special occasion. This was the perfect place to do just that! The wine list is so extensive that it's almost overwhelming, the food was amazing (I'm baffled as to how someone can make vegetables taste so good!), and the ambiance was lively & very cool -- especially with the jazz band ! This place is definitely pretty pricey, but it's great for a special occasion. And, they have a wonderful bar area for ordering small plates and wine for a less expensive option. Pros: awesome wine list, amazing food, cool ambiance Cons: pricey, average service more
