Stick with the Original 3/16/2009

I went to their downtown location and took some newcomers from Michigan. I raved about Azuma, because I had always enjoyed their Kirby location. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Food was dry; parking in DT more

Ehh 10/14/2008

The waitress, Michelle, was very attentive and pleasant. The sushii was second rate at best. I have had better at shopping mall sushi stands. Pros: Great service Cons: Mediocre food more

Best Sushi Dishes 6/25/2008

I'm a huge sushi eater and lover and have tried numerous sushi bars. Azuma D/T is my favorite, hands down. I love the White Angel & Red Devil sushi plates..they are awesome! The fish is always fresh and I actually witnessed a delivery of fish once. They guy came in with this huge, fresh fish and they unwrapped the fish, cleaned it and began to slice it up for sushi. Ask for a Melon Rita..those are great too! I like RA too on Westheimer and their lobster & shrimp roll is to die for but to me, Azuma has better rolls overall and their sushi taste fresher. more

Better Sushi elsewhere 6/5/2008

It's nice having a sushi restaurant downtown, but it's not very impressive. The decor is wonderful and the service is nice, but the two times I have eaten here I wasn't impressed. I've had fresher fish at other sushi restaurants in town. Pros: location, decor Cons: not the best sushi more

Great night 8/27/2007

Had a great night. Food was good (had tastier tuna elsewhere), service excellent (we were drunk and a bit outrageous, yet our server remained polite and courteous and agreed to our every request). Nice decor, great cocktails. Just everything great. And I am a hard man to please. I will return. Pros: Setting, service, food Cons: Pricey more

Customer service and the Kitchen's attention to detail have slipped cconsiderably in the past three weeks 6/7/2007

Normally, I take people to Azuma's because of its great service and it is one of the more entertaining eating experiences in Houston. Food is good, but not 5 star. Service is generally 5 star. However, the past two times that I have been to Azuma's the service has been mediocre at best and the kitchen's attention to detail on the food has been poor. Pros: Great location, romantic decor, fun food Cons: Service and quality of food preparation has dropped dramtically in the past two to three weeks more

The best sushi good service. 3/18/2007

This was probably one of the top 3 meals that I have ever enjoyed. The presentation of our rolls was excellent and the flavor unbelievable. The service was excellent and helped to make for a great evening. The red devil roll and the pollo were the best. When we were leaving the only problem of the evening was encountered when we had to wait 15 minutes to get our vehicle back at the valet stand. Highly recommended. Pros: Food Service Cons: Parking more

AZUMA - GREAT PLACE TO EAT 3/3/2007

Sunday evening at the bar - as usual the staff was very friendly, accomodating to us soccer fans by changing the TV in the bar to allow us to enjoy a match with our mojitos...which were the best we've had anywhere, kudos to the bartender, Leon. Our meal was beautifully presented and perfectly prepared. We enjoyed our evening very much as we have our previous three visits. If you haven't been to Azuma yet, you need to move it to the top of your list for places to go. Pros: Food, service, ambiance, location, valet parking (free just tip Cons: Parking more

good sushi, service is lacking 2/25/2007

Well, the sushi here is pretty tasty. The spicy tuna indeed has a spicy kick. However, to bring out food for 2 out of 6 people and leave the rest of us waiting for our meals for 10 minutes is not only terrible service, but lacks any sort of common sense for a restaurant in the United States. Oh, you comped the $4 appetizer, wow! This place is pretty pathetic with the service and the waitstaff overall incompetent. If I give you a large bill and you don't want to bring me change back, bring me the extra dollar that I will leave as a tip rather than tip yourself the change and bring me a bunch of ones. Tacky! I hope you enjoyed the change because you did not get back a single dollar. BOOOOOOOO! This is extremely unprofessional; don't go here. Pros: sushi Cons: lack of service more

Sashimi Heaven 1/16/2007

My husband & I visited this exquisite restaurant, on one of our latest ""date night"" adventures. We were pleasantly surpised by the freshness of the sashimi! It also had some of the freshest Uni (sea urchin) we had ever had... I would highly recommend the Azuma special (Chef's choice) sashimi platter. Beautifully presented, this dish was by far worth every penny! My husband & I share everything we order, so I'm glad to say we only ordered one. The delectable sashimi morsels were arranged across a bed of ice, that rotated on the platter. If you love sashimi, you'll love Azuma's! Pros: Conveniently located close to the Bayou Place, for a fun filled night on the town. Cons: Not cheap, prices are comparable to quality of fine dining. more

Good Choice for Sushi Fix 11/25/2006

Azuma's is a great choice for fresh sushi, drinks, crowd watching, and Japanese Udon noodles (which i love.) There's no hibachi tableside cooking here, but if you're a sushi fan, you will not be disappointed. The sushi is freshly prepared, and the atmosphere is both pleasant and serene. Pros: Fresh Sushi, Pleasant Staff Cons: Parking more

Best Happy Hour For Sushi, Drinks And A Good Time 10/7/2006

I stumbled into Azuma to have a couple of drinks for happy hour after work and ended up staying until the restaraunt closed because I was having such a great time. The bartender Leon kept my friends and I entertained the whole night with fabulous drinks and excellent service. He also convinced me to try a few sushi rolls, including the Red Devil and the Volcano Roll. Now I am addicted because the sushi was so amazing. I highly recommend Azuma for food, drinks and atmosphere. The happy hour menu has a great selection of drinks and food if you're worried about the cost. This is absolutely the best sushi in town. Pros: Food, atmosphere, service Cons: parking (but meters are all free after 6pm so it's not that big of a deal) more

Best Sushi in Houston! 8/3/2006

This is the best place to bring your ""virgin"" sushi eaters!!! All the specialty rolls are good; especially the Crazy Irishman, Patriot and Sumo Roll. And if you feel like getting a little tipsy, go for the Hot Saki. It comes in several flavors. This is the best sushi restaurant in town, hands down! About the service? Well I think it's perfect... I hate a bothersome waiter/waitress. Let's just say they keep the drinks coming and bring the bill when I've sat back in my chair in the ""I've eaten like a pig"" position. The price is reasonable for what you're getting. You could go to a cheaper sushi bar, but then your ""virgin"" probably won't come back for more. Floor seating is available for that authentic feel... Pros: Specialty Rolls, Saki, Nice Ambiance more

Very personable, friendly, great sushi 7/23/2006

Wow! I highly recommend sitting at the bar. We started off somewhere else with a bad start and happened to wander in here to have a drink. Even though we had already eaten we decided to try one of their signature rolls and we very impressed. The bartender Leon recommended another one that is not on the menu and fell in love with it. Very delicious and outstanding. Leon was very interactive with us through the whole evening we were there. Talk about great service. Our visit here definitely salvaged our evening. Pros: Great friendly bartender Cons: A little on the pricey side, but any good sushi you have to expect to pay more. more

good sushi...but service..what service 7/18/2006

The sushi was pretty good. Not really any better than a few other places that I already frequent. The service....what service. Had to wait 15 minutes before anyone even came over to take a drink order. Then the waiter was no where to be seen. Had to wait a VERY long time for the sushi and cooked entree. No excuse for this. There was only 3 other tables in the entire restaurant. I won't be going back. The prices are too high for such aweful service. Unique rolls but I kind find unique rolls at other small sushi restaurants and have great service. Pros: good sushi Cons: prices, service more

Awesome Sushi Restaurant 4/21/2006

I haven't had sushi for 2 years and this was the best sushi I have ever had. The cost wasn't that bad either considering the fact that we ate so much. But anyway I recommend this restaurant to any sushi lover. Pros: everything Cons: Nothing more

Great Sushi 2/14/2006

Best I had in Houston. Patriot and Crazy Irishman are a must. Sushi is very fresh. Great environment. Price is a little steep, but then again I only splurge once in a while. Pros: Fresh sushi, Unique rolls Cons: Price, Parking more

Awesome Sushi 10/21/2005

Top 5 Sushi in town. The chefs are very creative and accommodating. Sit at the sushi bar, have a drink and enjoy the food. Ambiance and atmosphere is very nice. Pros: Great Sushi, Location Cons: Parking more

Service is CONSTANTLY TERRIBLE!!! 10/18/2005

There's always something missing in the to-go orders, and they wouldn't even deliver after messing it up, even within a BLOCK! more
