Good for dates and small groups of friends. 3/22/2013

Great decor. Love the pleasant red glow. Good for dates and small groups of friends. Our night at Ayza started out well with two open seats at the bar, a long wine list, and a bartender with a hot accent. This make me very happy. more

perfect 12/8/2010

I was looking for a place to have a romantic dinner. It was excellent place for romantic dinners. Nice wine list, trendy atmosphere, and extensive menu. more

great food 12/31/2009

they have great food and I guess the whole thing is abot the chocolate more than the wine. In that area they’ve got it going on. I had the passion fruit truffle and it was amazing. more

new york gem!!!! 12/31/2009

it's a good place for private parties. I would highly recommend. more

awesome 6/12/2009

Plenty of no-meat options for vegetarians like my gal (inlcuding a great selection of Murray's cheese) and loads of things that can be shared (another nice romantic feature). The service is friendly and fast, but they also never make you feel like you're being kicked out. I had the filet and loved it and my gf had some squash soup that ws great and a nice looking salad. They gave us this really tasty bread with cranberries in it too that we liked a lot.The wine list is awesome and then there are some great desserts too. We had a chocolate cake that was pretty tasty. more

I just wish it were a bit bigger 3/4/2009

I'm not much of a "wine bar guy" and New York City seems to be the mecca of wine bars, but over the past couple months I've had a barrage of female visitors and it's a great place to bring them. They are always impressed by the whole wine and chocolate thing, and it's good to branch out from the usual New York restaurante. Plus, it's close to the Empire State Building, so after a touristy day we grab a meal there. The wine list is good and the food is great, though my dad thought the portions were on the small side and I have to agree -- I guess that's why it caters to females more. Still they have a great pre fixe lunxh that is really reasonable and actually a good amount of food for the price..They've got a pretty notable wine list -- even my sister said so, and she is a wine snob! And there is this truffle pizza that is treuly fantastic. I just wish it were a bit bigger -- when you have dinner inside it can get so loud and crowded. more

Cool and Swanky 1/15/2009

Wow. The. Best. Wine. Bar. In New York. And I've been to a lot of wine bars. This place is just fuyn and hip and just so cool and swanky. I love that they do the wine pairings for you so that you don't have to worry about it or ask a ton of questions. I think it takes the pressure off the servers, too, because they are totally relaxed and friendly (while in most other wine bars they seem a little high strung or tuck up. I love the paninis, they are all so good, and probably the best bang for your buck too, though I must say the filet is pretty awesme as well. I'm not much of a dessert person but my gf always loves to order, so we tried the crepe cake here and it made me a dessert person. You wouldn't believe how great it is! more

great cheese,wine and chocolate 11/21/2008

Great cheese selection. Delicious chocolates. Fabulous wine list. Friendly people. Romantic atmosphere… I could go on and on. There pretty much isn’t a bad thing to say about Ayza, except maybe that they aren’t open for brunch! They have everything I look for in a wine bar and in a neighborhood haunt and they do it with pizzazz and grace all wrapped into one. I live around the corner and have become a regular. I can’t get enough. more

Massive Wine List 10/30/2008

Their wine list is massive and I intend to try as many as are in my price range (there was one guy that cost $900!). I’ve tried a few so far, and each better than the one before. Add cheese from Murrays and I’m a happy girl. more

Great place after SHOPPING 10/16/2008

A great place to stop for a bite after shopping b/c it’s really close to Herald Square. It gets pretty busy in the evening though. We stopped by around 7 the other evening and it was packed. Great fun vibe though. more

Romantic Wine Bar 10/2/2008

I go once a week for the calamari salad. They know me now and always do the calamari extra for me. They’re not stingy on the calamari either. But since it’s a salad I still sometimes have to get a second! more

Editorial

  • With a menu that's as worldly as the 90-plus wine list, there's something for everyone at Ayza--well, everyone except that really hungry guy, since all the dishes are rather petite. Francophiles will be pleased with indulgent offerings like creme fraiche with caviar and chicken paillard, but it's the cheese plates that aren't to be missed. The herb goat cheese and cave aged gruyere with honey and pear is a sumptuous mix of savory, sweet and fresh; were it not for the thimble-sized portion, it would quell any craving. High ceilings, a wall of wine bottles and rich red hues create the illusion of coziness despite the stark, modern details. The display of Jacques Torres truffles doesn't hurt, either.

Hits: The prices are affordable, especially for high-end, presentation-focused cheeses and choice wines.

Misses: Although Ayza is located between Koreatown and the Garment District, the attitude of the staff seems more suited to Soho.
