excellent Ethiopian food 7/31/2006

Awash has some of the best Ethiopian food in the city. They never seem crowded, but food has been excellent over the past few years. Try one of the African beers or wines to accompany your food. Tip - when they say spicy, they mean it! Unlike some other restaurants that seem to be kidding. The beef dishes seemed to be the best, as was one of the chicken items, served on the bone. I'd definitely recommend it to friends and come back again. As another reviewer mentioned, it does get cold in there with the AC, so bring a sweater! more

delicious Ethiopian food 9/23/2005

Awash offers the best Ethiopian food I've had. The combinations feed two people easily, and have a variety of dishes included. The price is great as well. The key sir alicha is by far my favorite, though any of the lentil dishes are good, too. Lately, the service at Awash has been going downhill a little, due to poor turnover. Don't go if you're in a rush to get somewhere else afterward. Make plenty of time to sit and visit, and also bring a sweater--it gets chilly inside. more

Great Value - Delicious Foods! 7/27/2005

Awash has the most amazing cuisine. First, the experience of eating Ethiopian is a blast. You eat with your fingers, and no utensils. While some people find this to be unusual, rest assured it is well worth the sticky fingers. The food ranges from vegetarian delights to lamb, chicken and beef dishes. All foods are completely reasonable, and the portions are HUGE! The wait staff is extremely friendly and always willing to help decipher the unknown dishes. My personal favorite is the shiro (mashed chickpeas with special spices), and all dishes are eaten with the injera bread (stretchy sour-dough bread with a spongy feel – trust me, delicious!) more
