Austin Cake Lady

Based on reviews I canceled my appt. with this lady and got a very nasty email. I would not recommend doing business with this individual. I'm going else ware. more

I met w/ ACL w/ my aunt (the bride), since the groom lived out of town. We tasted & booked MONTHS before her wedding. At the tasting, we let it be known that the cake would be delivered to Hays County, which is usually outside of the delivery area, but it was agreed upon prior to our meeting, & at a set price. It was brought to our attention that night that we were the first people to book that particular day. She was sweet & let us know that she would be the person we dealt with. She would call or email w/ questions, bake, decorate, & deliver our cakes. She was able to do all of this because she refused to take on too many clients @ one time. All of this was exactly what we wanted to hear. more

This was an absolutely perfect day for us and the Austin Cake Lady especially helped to make it that way by helping me choose vendors that were super. She set up our big cakes on the table that our venue set up, and she put all the flowers on it for free too. When we walked in and saw it, I cried and made my mascara run--it was so beautiful it just took my breath away. I wish I could put a picture here but I don't know how. It was all scrollwork with diamonds and candles and red ribbons. Their prices were incredibly good. We saw some of the other garbage on here and read the reviews, but we decided that our great communication with her was going to override six people from a Halloween wedding. The behavioral display given by this woman was unprofessional at best. Her willingness to go to such lengths to ruin your occasion are appalling. Refusing to be around anyone with perfume is unreasonable when providing a service that is catering to events attended by many. Refusing to deliver cakes unless the table is set up and ready to go is ludicrous. She should be helping to insure the table is in place. Refusing to decorate cakes at the site because the supplies were not right at hand is just down right mean. AUSTIN - YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS. There are many professional cake providers that will do lovely work and take away the worry as well. No need to go through what was displayed at this latest wedding. more

EVIDENTLY THERE ARE TWO LISTINGS FOR THIS WOMAN SO I AM POSTING MY REVIEW ON BOTH. I've read the last few reviews from Wedding Guest, Groom Mom and YLord. They are all true. I was at the same wedding and witnessed the same actions by this woman. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I've attended and reviewed several weddings but never have I witnessed such a display in my life. This woman refused to set up the cake unless the MOTHER OF THE GROOM made sure the table was ready. Mind you the MOG was preoccupied with pre-wedding photographs and could not leave to attend to this woman's needs. When the MOG asked the wedding coordinator to handle the situation we found out that the Austin Cake Lady had given the MOG a wrong cell phone number to contact her. (Even though she was sitting outside in her car the whole time and refused to get out unless the MOG herself set up the table.) When the Austin Cake Lady finally got out of the car and brought the cakes over to the table. She said that she had done her duty since the strawberries for the groom's cake were not on the table. I heard the wedding coordinator tell her that the strawberries were being kept in the cooler and that he would retrieve them for her. She just ignored him, turned and walked away. I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. All of the other services providers at this wedding were going above and beyond to make the event a nice experience for the family. This woman has no business being in the service industry. I found out later that the whole problem starts with a contract she makes her clients sign. Can you believe that a service provider actually writes a contract that states that the client MUST deliver flowers to her else all bets are off? The MUSTS in her contract actually are demands to do things her way or the highway. Not a real ""SERVICE"" contract at all unless you want to be the one doing the service. THIS WOMAN GIVES THE SERVICE INDUSTRY A BAD NAME. Cons: THAT SHE IS STILL IN BUSINESS more

Ylord and groom mom are right! I was at a wedding and witnessed this lady do all of the things stated. I was shocked! I couldn't believe this woman wanted everyone to drop what they were doing so she could set up her cake. Not only did she leave before the cake was finished, she wanted the groom's mom to stop everything she was doing and arrange the table for the cake before she would agree to set up the cake. She refused to work with the caterer or the wedding coordinator, but demanded only the groom's mom help her. While the groom's mom was participating in the pre-wedding photos, this cake lady came up to me and said she couldn't finish the cake because I hadn't provided the strawberries (she actually had mistaken me to be the groom's mom.) The wedding coordinator was standing beside me and told her that the strawberries were there and were ready for her, but were being kept in a cooler to keep them fresh. The wedding coordinator told her he would get the strawberries and bring them to her. This cake lady just turned around and left - literally. I watched her as she walked to her car and drove away without even responding to the coordinator. Several other family members/guests stood there with their mouths open because they couldn't believe she just left the cake completely unfinished! Fortunately, the florist came to the rescue and finished decorating the cake (as best she could). The cake really wasn't worth whatever it cost because it tasted like a frozen cake - very heavy with awful frosting. If you choose to use the Austin Cake Lady, be prepared to cater to her every need! Cons: ACL has no clue that she's the service provider! more

Don't hire this lady if you wish to have a worry free event. She completely stresses you out with her demands. She is rude. Her cakes are bad. And she can not provide the service. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IF YOU WANT GOOD CAKE AND SERVICE!!!!!!!!!! Pros: NOTHING Cons: EVERTHING more

Don't choose this lady if you are looking for someone to take away the worry on a special day. She ADDS STRESS to your special occasion with all of her demands. She treats her customers as if THEY are the service provider and SHE is the customer. You have to cater to her needs when she should be catering to yours. First thing is that she doesn't provide any cake decorations. Be prepared to purchase flowers and ribbon and take time out of your already incredibly demanding schedule to deliver them to her. But wait. Don't deliver them without making the appointment first. Second thing is that she demands you to call her when the cake table is set up and ready to go. Else she will not deliver the cake. Problem is she calls you from a blocked cell phone number and gives you a bogus number to call. When you don't call. She comes in late. Sets up the cakes without decorating them and leaves. Thirdly, the cake you taste when you finally get your caterer and florist to cover for her lack of service in the decorations department is stale. The cake we ordered tasted nothing like the one we were delivered. This woman is a total b and should not be in business at all. Her limited physical abilities keep her from providing the service you should be getting. FIND ANOTHER REPUTABLE CAKE SERVICE. THE PAIN WITH THE AUSTIN CAKE LADY IS NOT WORTH IT. I had read some positive reviews about the Cake Lady so chose to check with her about availability to do my wedding. In fairness, this is not about the quality of her product, but the quality of her communication. In my email, I included the date and noted the venue. Her response stunned me. She said she does not work with my venue (a place almost universally praised for weddings) and told me the coordinator was a liar and she would not work with her (and then added an unnecessary and snide ""Good Luck!""). She then had the nerve to tell me she would not deliver there but that I could PICK UP my cake. Um, thanks...Needless to say, I'm still searching for a cake vendor. Cons: Apparent challenges with customer service. more

Austin Cake Lady created our wedding cakes on February 3,2007, and she did a FABULOUS job! She was extremely easy to work with, and everyone loved the cakes! She arrived EARLY--nearly 2 hours before the reception started, and in ten minutes the cakes were set up. I read the post below where someone said she arrived 3 hours late and NEARLY ruined the wedding? If a cake were 3 hours late, the reception would be OVER, and I doubt you'd be saying 'NEARLY'. Sounds like a bit of ""bridezilla-itis"" to me rather not a legitimate criticism. USE the Austin Cake Lady--we did and loved her. Pros: Cakes were affordable, best tasting of all, and absolutely beautiful! Cons: She doesn't do really small cakes I've heard and it took awhile to get an appointment. more

Do not have the Austin Cake Lady bake your wedding cake!! She nearly ruined my wedding day! The short story is: She was 3 hours late delivering the cake and then LIED that she hadn't been told what time to deliver and then threw a temper tantrum like a child and threatened to throw my cake on the floor! Seriously! Her cake tasted good, but she is rude and crabby and was way more concerned about herself than what I wanted on my wedding day!! I could go on and on.... I recently went to a wedding and found the cake being presented to be both beautiful and tasty. So much in fact that I inquired about it with the brides family and hope they will send one out to California for me. more

The cake was the most unique, gorgeous, and delicious cake I had ever seen! My friends raved over not only how beautiful it was, but how delicious. Several asked me to find out what she did to make it so good. The Austin Cake Lady was AWESOME! She did out cake...we chose to shop without our children...most places, including Dilliards where we registered, required that we made an appointment without children...which I totally understand!
