Editorial review from Citysearch 7/31/2012

My Experience was quite different and very positive. Liekly, as I went directly to the technician (Mike) that did the work and throughly knew and enjoyed his job (he replaced an internal, hard to get to lamp inside the instrument clustter - very low level repair you can't get anywhere else). I believe the problem with the other reviews is perhaps not talking directly to the techs that do the work and dealing with, well, let us say the front office. I checked, if you need specialty take apart and solder low level items inside an instrument cluster, the techs know EXACTLY what is needed, have the resisttors, desoldering stations, etc, and do it while you wait if desired. I would go there again for such repair without hesitation. more

Do not think about using them 5/23/2012

Wow just wow. This place has jacked me around for several weeks and now they just destroyed my instument cluster and cant fix it and all I get is ""ok"" from them. Are you kidding me!!?? Not sorry or I can try to help... nothing. And they come up with more excuses then I can remember. I wish I would have never even heard of them. Rude as all get out too thats not a suprise with the quality of work they do. Thanx a lot you pile of crap place wasted 8 weeks and $200 in freight for sending this think 6 times!!!!! more

VERY UNPROFESSIONAL 12/21/2011

I have been hung up on three times while dealing with these people. I called asking how much this was going to cost me (being they were working on my part). The first estimate he gave me was 500.00 and when i called back a second time he said 180.00 hmm... big difference??? Two days after it was to be shipped back to me, i called to check the status of where it was and i was hung up on. I will never use these people ever again!! They are so rude, and make you feel like you should not be questioning them. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! more

Dishonest and Overpriced 1/3/2011

I took my 2000 Jeep Cherokee in have a couple of speakers that were not functioning examined. I explained that I thought there was a wiring problem because the speakers sound great they just cut in and out sometimes as if there was a bad connection. I was told that the two speakers were bad and they would need to be replaced. I tried to argue but he he wouldn't budge. His estimate for repairs was $100 parts and labor. After the work started he called said he found a faulty wire and that it would cost an additional $30 to replace the wire. This is exactly what I tried to tell him in the first place. He still claimed the speakers were bad as well. I paid $135 dollars for the completed repairs but when I listened to the sound that the new speakers were producing the quality was much lower than my factory installed speakers, No base or treble. The sound was quieter too. The quality was noticeably low. I left unhappy When I got got home I did some research and found that 2000 Jeep Cherokees have a common problem in which the front speaker wires become damaged due to years of door opening and closing. The speakers continue to function but the wiring must be replaced. My speakers were most likely completely functional and I only needed to replace a small section of speaker wire. So I was charged for 2 sub par speakers at $25 a piece plus $45 dollars labor and $30 to run a new wire, then Austin Radio kept my fully functional factory speakers. Seems like a scam and a rip off to me. more

Should have listened to the other reviews 8/27/2010

I called Austin Radio, which I was referred to by a local auto repair shop, to fix an optical car radio amp. On the call they seemed willing to help me and assured me that I could just bring in the amp, I did not need the car. The person stated they had expensive testing equipment that could find out if the amp’s circuits had issues. I was told they change $85 per hour and it would most likely take about two hours to fix. I also received assurance that they had the parts.\r \r Two days later, I drove almost an hour to the shop to drop off the amp. As I walked in I began to doubt that they had anything expensive in the shop anywhere. Two signs on the wall stated “We Charge for Estimates $25 - $125”. This did not seem promising. When someone, who I assume was the owner not the person I talk with earlier, walk up to the counter. He immediately stated that he had to have the car to work on the amp. We talked briefly … he was both abrupt and rude in his comments regarding the person I talked with and even working on the amp. Bottom line .. I wasted my time driving there. He did not care that they had just had me drive thirty miles, he offered no assurance they could fix it or even find the problem, not test equipment … nothing. Recommendation unless you wish to pay handsomely to be treated poorly … avoid this shop. They have zero customer service. more

Poor customer service is not worth your time 8/24/2009

I went to Austin Radio & Speedometer to have my speedometer diagnosed. When I described the problem and mentioned that I had already had the speedometer cables replaced, the worker, who I presume to be the owner, barked that my car did not have cables. After I assured him that my car did in fact have cables (I still have the old ones), he didn't offer an apology. Because I didn't have a ride, he told me to come back when I had more time to wait. Maybe he was having a bad day; however, I will gladly spend twice as much somewhere else rather than be insulted. Cons: Poor Customer Service; Long Waits more

I really don't care if the guy is a little rough around the edges. He fixed a speedometer problem on my vintage car that my regular mechanic (who is also quite good) couldn't figure out. He did it quickly, and he charged a fair price. Also, he isn't rude; just gruff. more

Quality Radio Repair for All Original Vintage Automobiles 9/25/2008

I was referred to Austin Radio by the dealership 2-3 years ago because I loved my original sound system in my 1993 Mercedes Benz SE and I did not want to replace it with a b_ _ _s_ _ t new system. I went into the shop which is a little run down, customer service will make you take a step back, but my freakin cd player, cassette player and am & fm radio system works like brand new and the price was reasonable. So I don't care if the owner is rude to me. This is just his temperment - if you look at the big picture - he is very busy and doesn't have time to hold hands and comfort, which is fine with me - I am busy too. I am taking my car back in the next day or two because my teenage daughter abused my radio system with her ipod cassette adapter and jammed the cd player. Pros: Quality work at a reasonable price. You go fix a radio. Cons: Customer service is lacking. more

Avoid this repair shop at all cost 3/15/2008

I was referred to this shop by my car dealer. After being referred, I called to make an appointment, they said no appointment was needed. That was good. From that point oneverything went down hill. I arrived at the shop first thing the next morning. As I entered the shop , I noticed a worker (the owner), turning on lights and getting started, he looked at me (never saying a word) and proceeded to continue to do what he was doing. After about 10 min, he approached the front desk and said"" Yea"". Not good customer service. I explained the problem I was having and he said he would call me to let me know what the estimate was. This was at 8am that morning and after calling several times doing the day, I was told that when they knew what was wrong they would give me a call. At 4:30 pm I received a call at my office asking could they keep the car overnight. Since I commute from the Woodlands into downtown everyday, I said no. He said they would put everything back together and bring it back tomorrow. I never receive an estimate until I got to the shop. I was told that it would cost a little over $500.00 to fix the CD changer. When entered the car and drove off ...the radio didn't work so I called the shop they said they had disconnected everything. I asked what if I didnt want them to do the work. He (the owner) said just bring it back tomorrow and they will hook everything back. The next day they had the car again from 8am -5pm. The CD changer still does not work properly and the dash seems to have a slight rattle to it. Only go to this repair shop if you like, poor customer srevice, shotty work, or just want to be ripped off. Pros: Located Downtown Cons: Customer Service, Installation, Installation time more
