Worst

Could be OK for a small place like this... just let me know when they change the DJ (how can he be sooooo bad ?) and the bartenders. Nice to have the smoking area outside.

It is a cool place, small but cool 5/31/2008

Personaly, every time I go out downown Raleigh, i enjoy ever place.. Aura is a good place. i stopped by to celebrate my birthday, and I got the attention and the bartenders are amazing.. more

Dance, dance, dance 11/15/2006

If you like to dance to the latest hip hop then you'll like this place. After 1am it can become extremely crowed. If you fear small spaces it may be difficult to enjoy yourself. more

Great night life 9/28/2006

Ok. I've read the reviews and I have to tell you all your wrong. It's nice to go to a place that you need a dress code for. I hate clubs in this area where you can wear what you think is cool. Let me tell you that Baggy FRIGGIN jeans and A polo that a 400 pound fat guy should wear and sneakers is not the in thing. You should dress up nice. I also am quite confused about the aferican american comment. I see lots of diverse people in this atmosphere. I really don't care what color you are as long as you are dressed nice. I will admit that a few months ago thing in this club were not great. Bartenders were slow and drinks were not made properly. I think that over the past few weeks things have changed. All this club really needs is some people to go there before 11:30 pm. I have to say it's the hottest spot after 11 pm. everybody and their momma is in there dancing. Hot chicks, cool guys. What more do you want. Besides wih all the cops out there on Glenwood it's the easiest place to chill. Pros: You can be seen from everywhere. Easy to get too Cons: not enough people before 11 pm more

If you are African American avoid any night! 9/18/2006

Some friends and i were celebrating saturday nite and decided to stop by the aura lounge. However when i got to the door i was told that i needed a membership. when asked how we could go about getting one we were ignored. however i stood there waiting on a friend to come out and witnesses at least 6 caucasian people go in without any problems, he never asked them about a membership or anything. I guess you only need a membership to the Aura if you are black. more

AVOID CLUB AURA!! 9/10/2006

To those of you who hang out in Glenwood South on the weekends then you've seen the club AURA below RUSH. What you didn't know is the blatent misdirection that this club is headed towards. When did Glenwood South become South Beach? When did AURA become so famous or should I say ""infamous"" that ""cherry picking"" who could enter the establishment was inevitable for admittance into this glorified ""Garage basement"" sorry excuse for a club. I mean come on. Get real! I'm from Dunwoody, GA, on the outskirts of Atlanta, and let me tell you AURA doesn't have the clientele to beging thinking they can ""discriminate"" against all people. I mean is that their true mantra? Is that the essence of the Hip-Hop genre? Who do they think they are? Not to mention the sordid temperment that the so called ""NASCAR bouncers"" have while you're dancing to hip-hop music,as if you're looking to start an altercation with everyone. This club is L-A-M-E, LAME!!! My plan of action is to make a few phone calls and within 90 days or less BECOME THEIR DIRECT COMPETITION!! I will ensure that the new club on the scene will treat ALL people / patrons with respect at all times while they patron MY establishment. They have mistreated the wrong patron!! I will create a CLUB in which all of my brethren can enjoy. Pros: None (Starting a direct competitor) A true "Hip-Hop" club for the people! Cons: Club Management, Bartenders (some of them), Atmosphere more

If ur a complete tool-u'll love this place! 5/19/2006

this is the most lame, overated, sketchy place i have ever been in! if you like terrible rave music blaring in your ears and really slimy guys-- you will really enjoy this establishment. a great place to potentially have something put in your drink. more

doesn't get any worse 1/12/2006

terrible music, superslow service, NO AIRCONDITIONING, pretty strange audience... did I say TERRIBLE music... I've been to many clubs - this is by far the worst! more

The summers are hot at Aura... 8/19/2005

but not necessarily in a good way. I overall enjoy going to Aura. They typically have good music, if you like hip-hop, and pretty good service from the bar tenders, when ordering drinks. However, it feels like a sweat box in there! During the summer time be prepared to sweat more than you would during a work out at the gym. With a $7.00 cover per person, you would think they could afford airconditioning! I don't mind breaking a sweat when I'm dancing but my clothes are soaked when I leave there, without even dancing. I may need to wait until the fall to go back. more

Nice Dance Club!!! 4/24/2005

This was my first time going. I had a nice time. The DJ played hip hop all night..loved it! Nice atmosphere! There was no smoking in the dance area, so you did not leave smoked out. Mixed crowd, predominately white. But it was some brotha and sistas in the house having a good time. Loved it, would definitely go again. more

Don't be fooled 2/27/2005

Don't be fooled by the snazzy photo on CitySearch - Aura was lame. The best part was the people who went there (they were all there for a good time, not a skeezy meat-market), the bartenders were attentive, and the DJ was good. BUT, the bouncer charged our bachelorette a cover fee, (how lame, we were obviously going to be laying out plenty of cash for drinks) and as it was the drinks were way too expensive for what you get ($7.00 for a half shot?). And the atmosphere was awful - the lights were on full-blast, it was bright white and stark inside. Strange. Pros: other people there, attentive bartenders, the DJ took requests Cons: bouncer was a jerk, expensive, lame atmosphere more

Grandpas Basement 12/27/2003

If you want to feel like your back in junior high, partying in your grandpas basement, then maybe you should go to Aura! It's small, the back smells like smoke, and the service sucks. Not to mention you'll have more on your tab than you really had. There's no where to stand, without having people stand on your feet, fall into you, or spill their drinks on you. It's an ok place, when it's not busy.....which is usually...Don't waste your time, or money... more

The beat goes on 1/11/2003

This place is crazy, filled both women and men having a solid time. Would recommend anyone and eveyone to this South Glennwood night spot. Check it out for yourself! more

VERY IMPRESSIVE 12/24/2002

I was very impressed with this place. Nice atmosphere, friendly crowd(for Glenwood anyway), good music(some techno) Drinks weren't too expensive. crowd is mostly 25+, mostly white, well-to-do folks. Dressed in black, mostly. Smoking room in the back is nice, as is the fishtank between the bathrooms(nice touch!). Probably the nicest dance club in the area I've been to. Pros: good crown, relativelyinexpensive, nice atmosphere Cons: no parking, not casual more

try it on for size 12/13/2002

This place has a South Beach type flava. It's pretty cool when you aren't bombarded with techno. Pros: cool atmoshpere Cons: drinks too expensive more

""The"" Purple Couch 11/21/2002

Real funky furniture and lighting! Aura is a great place to take the night to another level. After having a few drinks out on the town...then to Aura for dancing and of course, MORE drinks. The location in my opinion, couldn't be better. Although it can get a little too crowded. Pros: Crowd, DJ, Location Cons: Size more

another try when... 11/17/2002

Could be OK for a small place like this... just let me know when they change the DJ (how can he be sooooo bad ?) and the bartenders. Nice to have the smoking area outside. more

Great for laughing 11/17/2002

Nice atmoshere and service at the bar was fine drinks seemed overpriced though. Smaller compared to other clubs However unless your over 25 don't bother going because thats the majoring of people there. I just found it so funny because I couldn't believe how lame some of the people were there. one guy basically hit on any girl that walked by. And geez some of these people danced like my 50 year old mother! Pros: nice atmoshpere, good service, funny people Cons: small, expensive, horrible dancers more

Big Hype...Little Club 11/13/2002

OK...continuing my romp around Glenwood Ave. I spot subtle blue lights...could it be...yes...a new club! Unfortunatly, this seems to be a pit stop where you take your drunken one night stand. The DJ didn't seem into it.. the outside area smelled like the conjested smoking area in a airport. Drinks are overpriced. It's the Mini-Me of ""The Office"". WOW...guess I didn't like it. Thats too bad..location and layout did impress me but top notch club potential is out of the question. (so sorry) Pros: Stylish setting, Fish tank in bathroom, Outside Area Cons: Too crowded for size, Music not mixed well, Outside Area Smells!! more

Good Times 10/2/2002

Sure the service is a little slow- the place was packed wall to wall. Its been that way every Saturday night I've been. The service was a bit slower than I would have liked, but I got over the slow service when the music started. Some people apparently can't appreciate a DJ who plays a variety of music to suit several tastes. It was a little hard to move around, but the separate smoking section was a plus; I didn't notice any watered down drinks either. Pros: Music, People, Separate Smoking Cons: Crowded more

Fresh Air!! 8/22/2002

The one thing I hate about going to clubs is when you leave you smell like you've been laying in an ashtray. I can tell you that Aura is the cleanest club you could go to. They have a seperate smoking area to avoid the stink that usually clings to you when you leave a club. However, this place has a very poor ratio. The ratio is roughly 3 to 1 guys/girls. Also, a little on the high side for beverages, and they play tecno <:-p after 1 AM Pros: smoke free, clean, audio Cons: crowded, poor ratio, tecno more
