Best

First time eating dumplings and I'm hooked! Can't wait to go back.

Worst

Stick with the dumplings. Some of the stir-fry dishes can be very greasy. Also, I am not totally sure my chicken was actually chicken--odd texture. Service can be erratic

Auntie Chang's is one of our favorite Chinese Restaurants in Houston. The staff and service are very good. They are smiling when we go. We have never had a bad experience there! Jason the head waiter there ROCKS! Roy the owner is also very nice! more

poor service, poorer food quality 4/13/2012

My friend took me here for lunch after having dinner there last week. Our server was rude and abrupt, and did not listen to our order. My friend sent the food back because it was the wrong dish, which seemed to upset the server. Meanwhile my food was cold, and although stamped ""spicy"" it was really not. My fried rice tasted old and salty, my shrimp were overcooked and rubbery. I was hesitant to complain because the server was very impatient with us for some reason. When i told him i did not like my dish he went and yelled about us to the manager. She came over and told me that in chinese cusine you cannot say you don't like the food because it is a waste of food, couldn't i understand that? She did not ask what i didn't like, or offer to remake it, or even get me something else. she did say she would take half off of our less than $10 lunch, instead of trying to give me a meal, which is what i was really trying to get. more

Great Pan-Fried Dumblings 12/2/2011

Great restaurant! My family and I go there once a month and always have fantastic service with great food. I recommend them because they seem very clean and have been at that location forever. more

rude waiter 7/19/2010

went with my family, order taker was very rude and ""know it all"" . after serving the soup for my wife and kids,i decided to order an extra bowl of soup(spend more money!!!) that's when he started mouthing out chinese words to ""himself""...this waiter ruined our whole dining experience and ruined it for the whole restaurant. food was not great.there are so many better chinese restaurants in houston.this was my first time there and i'm never going back..watch out for this waiter...wears glasses and probably the tallest amongst the short male waiters or just avoid this restaurant...go somewhere else!!! Cons: rude waiter, regular food can get anywhere else. more

Worst Chinese Restaurant in Town 12/3/2009

I am a Chinese and I had one of the worst meals in my whole life last night at this restaurant. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

Solid Takeout/Delivery 11/17/2009

Nice and quick takeout/delivery. Only thing is I keep forgetting that they have sprouts in thier fried rice. Otherwise, all thier food is pretty good, and you can get a dinner for two for less than $20. Pros: Reasonably priced, quick Cons: Sprouts in fried rice more

Auntie Chang is hurting 4/3/2009

I think this restaurant is having some trouble. We received a coupon to eat there which I thought was a pretty good marketing technique and we happily went there today to use it. We wouldn't have otherwise thought to go there. To our dismay, the manager told the waiter after we ate our meal that he would not honor this coupon. We were shocked, not just because they essentially backpedaled on their honor, but also because the manager wasn't even brave enough to tell us this himself. They must be having financial issues. They couldn't honor a minor discount that got us to come into their restaurant and have also decided to lose future business because of it. This was a really bad marketing idea folks. more

Bad Manager 4/3/2009

Auntie Chang was our favorite chinese place in Houston. The only unfortunate thing is their manager. Today we ate there after receiving a coupon at our front door. We went and ate and at the end, the manager decided that he would not honor the coupon, that it was some sort of mistake. a good place doesn't argue with the customer over a very small discount and risks losing repeat business over such dishonest demontstrations of poor integrity. I'm not sure why they give coupons out if they aren't going to honor them. Very bad marketing idea and why we will never go back. Pros: was a great place Cons: does not honor coupon more

Delicious Sauces, Dumplings and Entrees! 3/12/2009

The sauces that come with the dumplings are fantastic, espeically the ginger garlic one. The dumplings alone were very good and the entrees were all excellent. The servings are generous and the price is SO amazingly cheap. Great family meal, we particularly enjoyed the Gen. Tso's. more

There was a hair in my food too! 2/22/2009

Lately I've been on a dumpling craze, so I've been hitting up places all around the city. A friend said I should try this place out. So I went on a Saturday for lunch. When I arrived, I had to stand a good 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged my presence. Of course, I ordered the dumpling combo, which came with a side of rice. Two spoons into it, I noticed a long black hair in my food. Utterly disgusted, I told the waiter. Typically, when this happens at other restaurants, your meal's on the house. Not at Auntie Chang's. They wanted to charge me for the rest of my food (which I didn't touch...for some reason, hair in my food kinda makes me lose my appetite). So I refused and offered to pay for my drink. The lady in charge seemed very irritated with me. She didn't even offer an apology. Since then, I have told all of my friends to avoid this place altogether. Pros: Nice view of Westheimer and the parking lot Cons: Dirty floors, dirty sauce containers, hair in food more

Did I order hair with rice on it? 2/17/2009

I ate 2 dumplings and then my gf noticed a hair in her rice. We told the waiter we would pay for our drinks (we had 2 sodas each). He went to tell the manager and brought us a new ticket with the sodas AND ONE PLATE OF DUMPLINGS!!! We talked to the manager and her response to why we were charged: ""Well there wasn't hair on his plate."" REALLY!! After explaining to her that I wasn't going to eat after seeing that she took off my plate from the ticket as well. So in conclusion HAIR IN THE FOOD and the ATTITUDE was enough for me. Pros: Cozy place Cons: Rude and hair in the food. more

Great delivery, fast and easy! 1/25/2009

I can understand where some of these reviewers are coming from, Auntie Chang's isn't fancy - but it doesn't try to be. This is not the restaurant I would take a first date to, but it is clean and the staff is always very friendly. I mainly order delivery from here and the online ordering is fast and easy, and they always call to verify my order. They do a great job of meeting special requests and they have never once gotten an order wrong, forgotten something or been late (which is rare in delivery). I have always found the quality of the food to be good and the value for the price paid to be a great deal. Again, we're not talking gourmet Chinese here (which there are several here in Houston but at twice the price) but Auntie Chang's can't be beat on value!!! more
