Athletic Nation is basically a concept that a group of guys put together in which they thought it would be a great get rich quick scheme. The gyms are located in office buildings in rooms which are about 25 feet by 30 feet, very small. They only have dumbbells available. The reason they get these office spaces is to cut down on costs, as well with the free weights. Their gimmick is that the best workouts come from free weights, being that I am a personal trainer, that is partially true, however, to get maximum results when working out one must shock the body and keeping it guessing, throwing different exercises and types of weights at the body in order to keep the muscles from working over and over in the same way. At Athletic nation they said free weights are the way to go all the time.....that is ridiculous. I won't even get into rates, they are horrific. The main reason for this review though is to protect people from this place because the trainers there have no idea what they are doing and they are going to get people seriously injured. They claim to be certified, however, the only certification they have is through their own gym!!!! That is right, a head trainer puts them through their so called workout and teach them it and wallah, they are certified. They have no nationally recognized certification and they are not CPR certified. I came to this location with a friend of mine who was thinking of joining and he asked me to come along to tell him what I thought. When I saw what was going on there I was so astonished by how incredibly dangerous the environment was that I researched the company myself the next day. I then went to the other locations in the area. The next one I came to was the one on Camden right near Almaden Expressway, This one was even worse then the one before, smaller and the trainers seemed even more inexperienced. I had seen enough that I needed to see. From there I decided to get into touch with the person in charge of checking out establishments such as these. While researching this company I have also discovered that the owner of the company has not been helping his franchisees like he is supposed to be doing, only collecting his royalty fees!! He has already put many of this franchisees into extreme debt and even bankruptcy. That is just a little more info. for those thinking about purchasing one of these gyms.
Pros: Can't say there are any
Cons: small, incredibly overpriced, uneducated trainiers. more
