Atelier/ hairspace

I have just moved to the area from Los Angeles, where I had a great supply of ""movie star"" salons in my reach. After reading the reviews, Atelier Hairspace proved to be a 5 star salon. Tiffany gave me a professional consultation on my options, and listened to my long list of questions and concerns. I walked out with a haircut almost exactly as Tiffany described in the consultation. The atmosphere was trendy and lofty, and I had no problem with the parking with a 5 o'clock appt. I finally have a hair stylist I can visit regularly!!! more

Being new to the area I was concerned about finding a great colorist/ stylist. I looked up places and saw the reviews for this salon. Had my hair done yesterday and I am impressed and extremely happy with the results! I have gone to the same person for 8 years in my previous state and am very loyal, so I wanted to find a new stylist here that I would love, and I have! Nicki and Tiffany were great and I would highly recommend them!! The prices were pretty normal from my past salon, so no issues there either! Very happy!! Pros: great color, and great cut! I just read review of Tiffany's ability to style hair. Sorry. At all costs (and I mean at great cost) avoid the nightmare of having Tiffany cut or color your hair. You will be miserable and wished you went to Great Clips. more

How has no one yet mentiioned the music? If I have to sit somewhere for two hours I want to be listening to some amazing music. I leave so very happy with my hair and it actually is cut in a way that still looks good several weeks after. Giovanna and company set a mood in that hair space that give me one more reason to love DSM. And Nicki's eyebrow wax is the best--no redness, no strays and she's quick. Worth feeding a greedy downtown meter for these gals! Pros: skills, atmosphere, music Cons: parking--but shouldn't deter more

I have tried all other places to get the perfect professional haircut I wanted. Not one place would listen to what I wanted, & the haircuts always came out bad.\r I work with Attorneys, JCO's, DHS etc., my hair was extremely long & I was tired of styling my hair up. I was in need of a haircut. I heard about ""Atelier "" I was hesitant on trying anymore hair salons, \r I called to make a appointment. when I got there, I was greeted with a friendly smile & I was treated like a queen. I got right in. My stylest name was Tiffany, she asked me questions, she listened to exactly what I needed. While she was cutting my hair, she would explain everything she was doing to my hair, & what products she was using. She did an Excellant JOB!!!!!\r She made me look 10yrs younger, (I'm not exaggerating) my hair was perfect every single day, I received tons of compliments on the way my hair & I looked, even after a month on receiving my haircut, I was still getting the compliments!\r Tiffany is the best Hair Stylest ever!!!!!\r Everyone should give her & her co-workers a try!!!!\r I am now a regular SATISFIED customer! \r THANK YOU TIFFANY!!!!!!!! Seeing a bad review here of Giovanna's outstanding work, I was inspired to create an account just to write a review. Giovanna truly has a gift with hair and we are lucky to have her. I moved here from Chicago a year ago and have lived in many places throughout the States, including San Francisco and LA. I have gone to some of our country's best salons, and Giovanna ranks right up there with the best. She does an outstanding job of listening to the client and giving the client the perfect cut. In fact, I prefer her to many of the super-star stylists I've had, as she is so down to earth and the cut is really about you. I'm sorry someone (aewolff) apparently had a bad experience, but that is totally at odds with my experience. And the one thing I am really picky about is my hair. I'm very glad to have found Atelier! I've moved here from Colorado and it has been moderately challenging to find a stylist that works as an artist. This small, quaint salon makes one feel elite. It's in the middle of downtown so I often enjoy the farmer's marker before my appointments!\r I get A LOT of compliments on my cut and color. I felt this salon had a very unprofessional feeling to it by canceling my VERY first appointment with only a half hour notice before my scheduled appointment. I was stupid enough to go at a rescheduled time. During the appointment we were interrupted several times by walk in customers and phone calls. Overall it did not go well. I am STILL after a couple of months growing out my horrible hair cut. It will take me many more months boohoo. I left with layers (after I said I hate lots of layers) looking like a Rod Stewart wanna be....basically it's horrible!!!!! I went to this salon because of the excellent reviews. I am now wondering if the reviews were done by friends and family???? At my first hair cut after this one....the stylist was actually mortified by the shape of my hair. Layers were heavy and strange......sadly for me she agreed I looked like Rod Stewart. Not a fun way to spend the holiday season. I am now taking every vitamin and using hair growth shampoo to try my hardest to put this hair cut behind me. HORRIBLE....is all I have to say. If you have ever experienced a bad hair cut like this and understand how I feel.....I do not recommend you using this salon.....if you want to understand the feeling of total despair so you can relate with other girl friends....give it a shot! Giovanna's the best in Des Moines. I'm from San Francisco, moved here in February and went through a few rounds of hairstylists in the area -- Giovanna's by far the most skilled and pleasant to work with. My entire office gets their hair cut by her -- Anne comes out looking like Bardot and I've kept my gamine little pageboy look. The male clients come out looking like the boys I like to date. Yeees.\r \r All in all, the women's hair is high fashion and slick. If I wanted to look like Agyness Deyn, I'd go to Atelier. more

I just got my eyebrows waxed at Atelier Hairspace and it was by far the BEST wax I have ever had which is saying a lot since i am a very picky person when it comes to that! Atelier Hairspace is an outstanding asset to downtown Des Moines. Giovanna is a true talent that takes the time to consult with her individual clients to determine what the best cut is for thier facial features and lifestyle. I have been to many stylists in the Des Moines area and have not found any that can compete with Giovanna's quality/artistic cut. I was a cheap cut, just get me in and out fast type of person. As a guy, I was not interested in going to a Salon. But my wife insisted I give Atelier a try, and I am very impressed. She spends the time to talk through your ideas but more importantly to assess you hair type, face shape, etc., and make suggestions for a hairstyle that works for you and your lifestyle. Giovanna Morano is a very friendly, insightful, and inspired hair stylist. There is nowhere else in town that you can get the level of style and service she provides. The atmosphere is very cool. It feels like being let in on the secret when you go to her place. On 4th Street in Downtown Des Moines, but without any signage, you have to know where you are going to get there. Atelier Hairspace is a modern place to renovate your look. Giovanna took many things into consideration while giving me options on styles that would work best for me. I got the best haircut that I have had in years. The space is very modern and the stylists are very knowledegable . You can get a New York haircut without leaving Des Moines.
