Dr. Mason is the Best 1/3/2012

I have been taking my daughter""s to Dr. Mason for about 4 years and have got to know and respect him very well. My daugher the oldest was about 15 and the youngest was about 8. I had got a divorce but had seperated from my oldest father when she turned 5 ever since after that she would walk talk run open doors yell scream etc, on some occassions while she was asleep for the longest all the famous respected pediatricians told me this was normal. since I had been taking my youngest to Dr. Mason for behavior modification since she has ADHD among several other medical conditions I decided to take the oldest in. After about a year of us only meeting one day a week with Dr Mason he came to the conclusion that he felt it was not a behavior problem that it might be a medical conditon and thought a sleep study study should be done I happen to mention this to my own neurologist that decided to evaluate her after Dr Mason wrote up a letter to her primary care Doctor suggesting testing should go further and her primary Doctor refered her to my Doctor the neurologist l after he did a EEG test and found it to be abnormal and a Brain Mri with contrast we found her to have a cyst on her brain. after 10 years or better hearing this was normal the conclusion was it was causing her insomnia. Later we did sleep studies, tried medications etc. to find she only does this when she reaches her REM sleep and since she runs all day and sometimes all night we believe that her hypoglocimia (low sugar) might go hand in hand with the insomnia It just amazed me how a physiciologist could figure this out but yet the hospital's well known pediatricians had no clue. Dr Mason now see's me, my sister, my 2 daughers, and I take 2 foster brothers that live close to us. Dr Mason is not like your stiff by the book pencil stick looking phd mental Doctor. He really cares and guides you to what he thinks. He has wrote numerous letters and advised me on several different situations regarding my youngest and the schools responsibilties for a child on IEP and disabled. He is very straight forward with people and some people can not take it. but I would rather someone be honest and straight forward than candy coat a situation and mislead a person on the intensity of it. more

Compassionate, Dedicated Care 3/29/2008

They are wonderful people who truly believe in doing their best to help those with mental health concerns. Police officers and pediatric psychology are their specialties as a group, but each individual's personality makes him/her excellent for a specific subgroup. If you are a police officer or have a family member who is one, speaking with Nick Marzella, Ph.D. or Stephen Douglas, Ph.D. is probably best for you. Ellen Douglas, Ph.D. is wonderful with small children and has a special skill with those living with Asperger's. John Mason, Ph.D. can be a great relater to teens everywhere and has completed numerous psychological evaluations for children going through parental divorce; he is sometimes a nonconformist but cares deeply about each patient and each situation. The other members of the staff are all caring, concerned for your well-being, and listen readily. The business is in a great historical house and has excellent landscaping - it can be soothing just to walk by it! more

Highly competent doctors. 9/24/2007

Dr. John Mason saw my children and was wonderful. I have had experience with other doctors during my divorce and with my step-son and found Dr. Mason uniquely able to filter through the BS, get to the point and help families effectively solve problems. Thank you so much for quickly helping my family to mend and giving us the strength to resolve our concerns and maintain our strong, loving family. Pros: Great with pre-teens and parents. Great with divorce situations. Cons: Not surprisingly, it's really hard to get in to see Dr. Mason - but he is worth it!!! more
