Editorial review from Citysearch 9/11/2012

The playing field, in the morning, was usually filthy in the Fall, Winter, and Spring months, strewn with drink bottles, plastic bags, and assorted garbage from previous day's (or weeks!) activities. This seemed to drastically improve overnight when Summer camp started, and the field and running track are great.\r \r The personnel are a different story. The desk people are mostly surly and do the minimum to assist you or answer questions, but my biggest gripe is with the security guards. They are rude, unhelpful, and uninformed about the policies that they are supposed to enforce. One was initially friendly, but after a few minutes conversation he asked me to help him find another job. I can imagine why!\r \r I suggest that this establishment drastically revise their hiring policies. more

kids program not recommeded due to coach 10/4/2010

coach was inappropriate and a bad sport. Overall, not really what I want for my kids, or any kids. I mean really, name calling, bullying, from the coach. I don't think so. I can't imagine why they would keep this guy. more

I learned to swim here 1/8/2010

I was 27-28 years old when I joined Asphalt Green and learned to swim. I joined because I read that their private swim lessons were really good, and that they had the best pool in NYC. I took lessons for about 9 months and now love swimming, even in the ocean. I spoke with another member in her 40's who was learning to swim at AG, and she said she's hooked too. I see her there doing laps every night, even though she just started taking lessons. The pool is Olympic size but they change the configuration throughout the day, which I love. I also joined the fitness center, which is probably my favorite gym of all the ones I've ever been to. I really appreciate that it's never crowded or smelly. This fact makes me feel really comfortable there. I think it's actually less expensive than Equinox, from what I've heard about the Equinox rates. I work close to AG, but live far away. I would honestly move closer to the gym if I could. Pros: beautiful pool, spacious, clean, comfortable Cons: pricey, far from home more

best pool in NYC 12/16/2009

Fabulous pool. Best in NYC. A bit over-priced, particularly since it is a non-profit. I keep coming back, though! Pros: great facility, good hours Cons: expensive more

Not a Meet Market 8/20/2002

Great gym, people serious about getting healthier, not cheesy guys hitting on every girl in there, not total psycho beefcakes... great classes, phenom pool, very clean, never over crowded. maybe a bit pricier than nysc and equinox, but well worth it and still less than the really big ticket places like reebok and crunch more

user friendly 7/24/2002

Asphalt Green Fitness Center is really user friendly. The cardio pieces look out over the east river/triborough bridge, the weight machines are hooked up to Fitlinxx system that keeps track of your workouts. They have all different kinds of machines that hit all the various muscle groups in different ways. The free weight area is set up with equipment like a major college, pro-team, olympic training center. They even have all this special equipment for stretching and relaxation. Staff is with it and quite helpfull, most of them really know their stuff. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed. The place is very clean and the equipment is well kept. Add the really great pool, full size astro-turf field with indoor and outdoor jogging tracks, the basketball gym, and I think you have found an ""Athletic Paradise"" Pros: super equipment, great value, fun Cons: parking more
