Yeah, I don't understand how this place used to get such good reviews. There was nothing special about it. Sampan is probably better. Maybe management changed or something? We...

Asian Star take you out of this planet.... 7/1/2006

Talk about an awesome dining experience, you must be talking about Asian Star!! Gary the owner is one incredible person who can recall your name regardless of how many times you have been there. He takes pride not only in his restaurant, the service, his staff and your experience. Regardless of an intimate approach or large group, Gary always knows how to make you feel as if you were VIP. Some of our favorites are pon pon chicken, Szechuan beef, cashew shirmp/chicken, and trust me the list goes on... Take that someone special here for a dining experience, and trust me this will become one of your favorites too... Pros: Ambience, Service, AWESOME OWNER/HOST and Staff more

If you like The Mandarin, then you'll love the Aisan Star! The food is much better and their new location is great. They are now located on 1300 E and at about 7800 S. more

Best Chinese Food in Utah 5/17/2006

Gary, the owener is always there to greet you and he will remember your name even if you haven't been there in a long time! They have the best service of any restuarant in Utah!! The strawberry chicken, pon pon chicken, and walnut shrip are amazing! I'm glad to hear that they are moving their location off the mountain and down to the Union Park area! Pros: Service, Food more

Fabulous Food 2/2/2006

We go to Asian Star often. We love the service and we have never had to ask to get our drinks refilled. That is a bonus for us. We also think the owner, Gary, is a great guy. He greets every patron, and he is the one that seats you most of the time. We have never been there when he isn't. That doesn't happen very often. You also have to try their ""HONEY WALNUT SHRIMP"" its to die for! Pros: lots of parking, easy to get to, party room Cons: it's busy more

Best Chinese anywhere!!! 12/30/2005

You have to try their walnut shrimp and pon pon chicken. The service is excellent and the food is consistently extraordinary. We eat Chinese all over the U.S., this is the best anywhere. We have people fly in to dine with us here after dreaming of their Walnut Shrimp. You just HAVE to try it. Pros: Consistent excellence, Service impeccable, Ambience great Cons: Soft Drinks flat more

great chinese food 7/10/2004

We had a dish with huge coconut crusted shrimp that was great. Our waiter helped us choose the appetizers and entrees as it was our first time. Service was prompt and very helpful. Pricy, but a nice experience EXCEPT - when you go out in the hall to use the restroom you know you are over a gym - the faint odor of damp towels and old sweat socks permiates the building - keep the doors closed! Pros: food, service Cons: , price, distance more

Pros: great service, wonderful food, special treatment Cons: tennis club location more

Good Cantonese 1/16/2003

Utah should count its lucky stars to have this place. Good solid Chinese American food and efficient staff. Gary is a very involved owner. I hope that this place sticks around since the Racket Club has been sold. Pros: Gary, will cook to order, good for Utah more

Almost Chinatown! 11/8/2002

Hankering for a taste of NY's Chinatown in the midst of the mountains? The closest you'll come in the land of Zion is the Asian Star. Unlike the majority of run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurants in town, the flavors in each dish are consistently fresh, distinct, and delightful. The service is attentive and the atmosphere comfortable. It's a great place to relax and enjoy a great meal. Pros: great food, super service, fascinating fish tank more

The Best... 10/19/2002

...for Salt Lake and what we've found. We enjoy our visits, and the friendly staff. The food is great. The honey shrimp are some of the best we've had from here to California. Nothing outragously fantastic about the place, but the food and staff are consistantly good. more

Problems choosing? 10/18/2002

The food is fabulous. If you don't know what to order from the extensive menu, have the waiter suggest. He/she will not steer you wrong. Ours actually told our group that we had too many fried entrees and that he would pick the last for us! His suggested entree turned out to be the favorite of the evening. The lettuce cups appetizer is a must as is the honey walnut shrimp. Pros: service Cons: parking more

The Hidden Chinese Star 10/10/2002

Absolutly Great! Not only is the food great, but the service is extraordinary. Gary, the Owner/Manager, is the best restaurant host on the planet. Get to know him, and he will always take care of you... whether you are a regular customer or a first-timer. Without a doubt, the best chinese restaurant in Utah. It is a hidden treasure. Pros: Good Food, Great Host Cons: Hidden, Small Dining Room more

Friendly Environment 10/8/2002

I've moved from working in the Union Park area, but still meet friends at Asian Star for lunch anytime I get a chance. The manager is so friendly and the food doesn't sit in my stomach like some greasy chinese restaurants. Pros: Friendly more

Try it---you'll like it! 9/7/2002

Excellent! THE BEST Walnut Shrimp! MooShu and Tangerine Ckn/Beef also outstanding. Mongolian Beef only average. Excellent take out packaging, they shrink wrap the containers, including soup, so no leaks. Only criticism I have is that it took several tries to get 'hot&spicy' to mean hot&spicy; you really have to emphasize this or you will be disppointed. This seems to be a Salt Lake thing, as I've found the same to be true of other local Chinese. Pros: Walnut Shrimp!, Great service, Pleasant atmosphere Cons: light on heat/spice more

Asian Star, a place where everyone knows 8/11/2002

A place that offers a unique experience to your culinary travels. This is a place, where the staff is friendly. The owner doesn't make you feel like a customer, but rather a part of the family. I recommend Shrimp in Mandarain Ginger Sauce. I guarenntee that you won't find it anywhere else. more

Starring great Chinese cuisine 7/30/2002

Fabulous food, and if you don't see what you want on the menu, tell Gary and he'll have it prepared especially for you. more

YUMMMMMMMMMMM 7/23/2002

Eating here is truly a dining experience. The food is out of this world. All of the sauces have an original flavor that keeps you coming back for more. Hot Sour Soup to die for!!!! more
