GOOD FOOD & BEST SERVICE 4/15/2010

Food was very good, I been to most of Indian restaurant in Michigan, I vote this as best Indian restaurant. Pros: Best Indian Food more

Good food. Decent service 10/22/2009

The food was good. Was attended to quickly on arrival. Ordered a veg corn soup but it was not good at all. The indo chinese food can be avoided. The Paneer lababdar was good. Pros: Good Ambience, good food more

Bad service and Terrible Attitude from the front desk lady!!!!!! 8/2/2008

I went there for buffet and to my shocking surprise, the lady at the front desk acted weird. She did not serve me water while seating me on the table and there was no water even after 30min. It became worse after i finish eating the first plate. When i went and asked one waitress she with all the attitude told me that my table was not in her serving area and I will have to ask someone!!!! This is HORRENDOUS!!! I had to quit my lunch in the middle and went to a nearby restaurant just to quench my thirst!! My entire day was ruined for their ATTITUDE!!! The worst part was a MALE waiter approached us and told ""I am not here to YELL at you"" Is this what you expect for their mistakes. Any sensible person will avoid them!!!! Pros: Cant think of one compared to other restaurants Cons: the attitude of the staff!! more

**bad service!!!!!!!!- 'specially front desk 6/30/2008

SORRY- THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE 'ASHOKA' IN CANTON, MI\r \r lady at front desk acts like we are being a pain when asked to be seated. she was all attitude until an amercian showed up and then she was all smiles.\r shame on indian attitude towards other indians!!!! i've seen this far too many times in this country. the only people discriminating against indians here are the other indians here!! Pros: things used to be better a while ago.. maybe they'll get better Cons: restroom! people walk into the buffet line from the party room nextdoor! more

Best Mutter Paneer, Great Food! 6/12/2008

I love the Mutter Paneer and Chicken Tikka Masala here. I've been going for quite a few years and I think the service is great. The buffet could use a little work. Need to put some better staples on it. I like the Lamb Curry they usually have on it, but some mutter paneer would be nice. Also, their web site needs to put the days they are open and their hours, would be helpful. Dinner here is highly recommended. more

Ok food with bad service 4/16/2008

You want to see some attitude from the front desk??? then go to this place. he has all the attitude in this world. dont know why. \r \r Ex 1 : Enter the restaurent and ask for a table, he says wait a minute (you can clearly see that ther will be 4 to 5 empty tables). He comes back after few minutes and take you to a table.\r \r Ex 2: Closing time for the restaurent is 3pm. If you come and start eating at 2:45, he will come at 3:05 and ask us to finish by 3:15.\r \r Ex 3: Guys who work over there care least about the service. When they see group of good looking girls they set meeting at one corner and will checktout the girls discussing about them (not caring what the customers need).\r Pros: ok food Cons: bad service, bad ambience, stinky restrooms. more

Great food and service, unbeleivable value 7/26/2007

I've been to a number of Indian restaurants around the country and this is definitely the best value I've seen. I went to the lunch buffet and although I didn't like all the dishes, (more of personal preference rather than quality) most of the food was outstanding. The chicken and chana masala were as good or better than any quality upscale Indian restaurant, the naan was free and came out hot, and the tandoori chicken wasn't dry and had rich flavor. The waiter was amazingly attentive for a buffet setting. He brought out naan and tandoori chicken quickly and asked if we needed more frequently. Basically, I was totally enamored with the place already, but was even more in love when I got the bill and realized the buffet only cost me $8. It's tragic that I don't live in Detroit and can't come back here! I've been to many excellent restaurants, but this is truly one of the best, particularly in terms of value!\r Pros: food, service, parking, incredible value Cons: small and can be crowded more

Ok! - do not have high expectations - 6/6/2006

Do not expect authenticity if you are looking for north indian dishes. the restaurant is ok . service is not bad. not clean at all just look at the carpet wheen you get there. Restrooms are always smelly.\r \r Cold treatment if you order a take out. \r \r expect a south indian twist to all north indian dishes. \r \r a la carte is overpriced - Buffet prices are ok. Pros: other restaurants are not any better Cons: no authentic north indian dishes more

Another Favorite!!! 3/16/2006

This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants! The best in Detroit area I've been to! The first time I was there I had dinner and made the mistake of telling them to make it spicy... it was HOT! But now that I know that I get mild... and that is still spicy enough for me! The buffet is the best... I used to eat there for lunch once a week when I worked in Troy and now I miss it horribly. About a year after I moved I went back to visit and HAD to stop at my favorite restaurant and they remembered me! I would recommend this place to everyone! Pros: Great Food, Great Parking, Great Location more

Great indian restaurant! 8/22/2004

Some of the best indian food I have had in the US. Their chicken madrasi, chicken masala, and lamb curry were great. The grilled items were dry however. They also have very nice paan. overall a great place to take people out to. Pros: great food overall, good service, good decor more

My Review 6/23/2004

Awesome food ... menu not overpriced .. overall was impressed with the taste very close to home...when you ask them to make spicy, be prepared for some real spice... had dined here for many times... each time good service... good work Pros: Food, Menu, Inexpensive more

Best Indian food around 3/14/2004

Oakland County is almost teeming with Indian restaurants and I tried many of them. At Ashoka, I get a consistently well prepared meal, served well, and in a lovely setting. It's not often you get all three! The food is prepared a little leaner than in India which is more suitable to American palates, but the cook does not pull any spicing punches. If you ask for SPICY, you get SPICY. I'm a sucker for lamb aloo but the veg dishes are excellently prepared, time after time. I would take my Indian visitors there without hesitation if they were hankering for northern Indian food. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Value more

Phenomenal!/Best ever! 8/30/2003

Wow! Three friends and I recently experienced the wonder of Ashoka. The amazing food is, rightly, the main attraction. Excellent aloo gobi, extremely substantial and filling. Warm naan and (a rarity) perfectly prepared basmati rice. Excellent value: the thali option. Add seven sides: raita, 2 karis, spicy pickled mango (wonderful!), delectable dal, exquisitely complex spicy veg curry. Even rice pudding! Youll need it, even after ""mild""ly spiced dishes. If you like it hot, this is the place! Pros: Very extensive menu, Attentive service, Very clean and pretty Cons: Small/crowded lobby more

best 8/7/2002

oh...I just love Ashoka restaurant. I love their service and food is just the best. more

yeech!!! 7/26/2002

The worst experience at an Indian restaurant in the Detroit area!!! The setting was nice and the service was good but the quality of food was miserable. Bad flavor and ""unknown"" chunks in each of our dinners. Prefer Star of India & Priya!!! Pros: Ambience, Service, Lots of room Cons: Food, Food, Food more
