I've come to the end of my lease and 6/11/2012

I've come to the end of my lease and very happy to leave. I am renting a 2 bdrm 1 ba barely 1100 sf apt in the Artessa at Quarry Village "Luxury" Apartments. The walls are paper-thin. My 8 yr old believes the place is haunted because we can hear the neighbors to the left, right and above us. For a while there was air in the water pipes so it made disturbing noises throughout the night. My fire alarm would go off at whim (and I don't cook). The kitchen sink COLLAPSED while I was washing dishes....maintenance came in and glued it back and then stuck a 2x4 under the basin to hold it up. The soap dish in the shower fell off, so maintenance caulked it then held it up with masking tape. A few of the vertical blinds to the balcony fell within weeks of moving in. The screen door to the balcony was jammed on the tracks but then came off the tracks completely when I tried to push it open. The lights in the hallway and garage frequently go out or dim. Whenever I have guests they tell me how creepy it feels walking down the corridors because it's closed off and looks like something you'd find in project housing. The elevator by the resident center smelled like propane or some unpleasant gas. The elevator had not been inspected until over 2 months after the expiration (is that normal?). The speed bumps on every floor in the garage are like driving over curbs. For the convenience of the Quarry Market customers, residents are not allowed to park in the general parking area. So if you need to make a quick stop at the apartment, you have to drive all the up the dark, poorly designed speed-bump parking garage, then drive all the way back down. The recycling bin comes and goes as it pleases: one week I placed several recyclables in the trash room and maintenance took a picture for the management to email it to me and explain to me like I'm a 2-year old how to properly dispose of trash, which happened to not be trash by recycling. They've recently started charging for valet trash service, but I have yet to see a trash can for my unit. Not kid friendly. There is no place for children to play other than the pool. There is a Bocce ball courtyard, but it's unspoken rule that children cannot play there. In the mornings delivery trucks drive and park near the garage exit making it hard to see around them when trying to leave the garage. One of my neighbors complaint about how that can cause car accidents, the office worker said that the residents should be covered by their car insurance. The clubhouse is very nice, but requires a $250 non-refundable deposit to reserve it. The internet connection in the business center is iffy and the printers are very slow. They do not notify you when a package comes, you just have to call yourself to find out. The staff and not very professional. During one of the resident events, one of the resident center workers introduced me to a couple of other residents and then right in front of them said, "I'm so sorry you're leaving us, what was wrong, you just couldn't afford it anymore?" A friend of mine lives in Legacy Heights which is managed by the same company as Artessa. She has the exact same layout as mine, same type of countertops, appliances, fixtures and flooring and pays over $300 less in rent. It's not in the Quarry, so you're really paying for convenience to the shops, but it's not close to the riverwalk, so I don't understand why this place is so overpriced. I would not recommend this property to my friends. more
