Poor Food 7/15/2010

Three of us visited the Apricots this week. I ordered the ""recession buster"" meal- chicken picata. It was average at best. With it I ordered soup: Lobster ""lemongrass"" broth- it tasted terrible, like dishwater. $6. down the drain My wife ordered an appetizer for $13.: scallops- there were TWO, yes, just TWO. Also had a $5.50 tossed salad, which was small and included a piece of texas-style toast that was UN-EDIBLE. Seriously- it was stale and tasteless. My sister-in-law ordered $25 ribs off the reg. menu: what she got was POT ROAST.... there were no bones, just two small pieces of pot roast with some BBQ sauce dumped on top. Plus it was chewy, not tender (we all tasted it and agreed it was POT ROAST) Pros: good ambience, pleasant waitress Cons: poor food more

Dining Here is a Big Disappointment 4/5/2010

Thought we would give Apricot's one more try for Easter. What a mistake. This is an unfriendly, poorly run restaurant with food that was barely eatable. We were served room temperature white wine and butter that had been half eaten by other diners before placed on our table. When we asked for replacements, we were given a look of astonishment - how dare we! The crab cake was made with imitiation crab - which is unconscionable in this restaurant. It consisted of all imitiation crab and breadcrumbs, producing only a salty taste. The lobster/crab bisque was served with drippings on the sides of the bowl with some hardened bisque on the rim. Not very appetizing.....The entres didn't fare much better. Leg of lamb was very tough and the promised mint sauce mentioned in the menu was not on this dish. And when we asked the waiter about it he said he hadn't tasted the dish so he didn't know what kind of sauce was supposed to be on the meat. The salmon and the ham entres were totally unforgettable, Boring vegetables with no flavor. The apple chutney that was to accompany the ham turned out to be apple sauce spread over the slice of ham, with a overpowering taste of clove. Eager to have something good, we ordered three desserts. The lemon bar/torte that came with a very tiny drizzle of carmel had a good lemon taste, although a drizzle is not, in my opinion, ""served with a carmel sauce"" as described in the menu. The apple crisp was burned on the bottom, with absolutely no flavor at all, and the chocolate mousse cake didn't impress. Our experience was topped by an icy stare given to us by the host as we were leaving. Not one word was said to us - not even a thank you. Definitely will not be returning to this restaurant. Pros: Nice views of Farmington River if seated by a window. Cons: waiters do not know the menu;unfriendly atmosphere more

Never Again 6/8/2009

Arrived and waitress took drink orders. We also asked for menus. Got drinks but no menus. Had to ask again after 15m. Then had to wait another 15m and caught the attention of someone to take our order. Ordered shrimp which came with a small amount of sauce so we asked for more. 15-20m later, we asked again. When food arrived we were not happy at all. Sandwich meat was greasy, bread was soggy. Crabcakes were made with ground sealegs or canned chicken of the sea with raw minced red pepper..barely cooked. Sent them back. They came back the same way. When waitress came back to clear the table, it was clear I didn't eat the crabcakes. Did not ask if I wanted them wrapped, just cleared. Did not ask us if we wanted dessert. I'm disappointed. Seems the recession is affecting the best of restaurants. I won't go again. There are too many other options that are consistently good with food and service however pricey Pros: Decent beer selection Cons: Service, Food more

Poor service & no follow-up 6/28/2008

Great location with such potential. Unfortunately, very poor service with far too much attitude. Not 'customer friendly' at all. What is worse is that after I left messages for both the owner, Ann Howard, and a week later, for the GM, Kevin Quinn, no one has returned my calls. Unacceptable! Pros: Great location Cons: Poor service more

Crowded ""pickup"" bar, congested. 6/30/2006

The few times hubby and I went to Apricot's we were seated in a congested area. The food was not very good, and was priced quite high considering the quality of the meal which was subpar. Meat wasn't cooked well, soup was terrible, etc. The ambience was very uncomfortable. Apricot's is a middle-aged singles bar, and it's not comfortable, or conducive to sitting and relaxing. more
