I've got nothing but good things to say for this place. They've helped me with 2 different sick kitties in the past 5 years and have been understanding and caring. They are willing to give over the counter ideas and home care ideas when medically possible to avoid overburdening you at the vet. You can often ask for a prescription instead of buying there so you can get it wherever it is cheapest, but you just can't get around lab fees and surgeries. Yes, it's an emotional time in the middle of an animal emergency, but that's in no way the vet's fault. It's YOUR responsibility to be able to care for your pet in whatever way you can. Obviously they have to charge for services, they can't fix your pet for free. \r I'm torn between my regular vet and this place, but this place is much warmer and friendlier and seems to care so much more. It's a little further than my regular place, but these people really love animals. more

quality and compassion 3/10/2010

I wanted to address the claims of devastateddanemom review. I was the veterinarian who treated her Great Dane that night. He was diagnosed with a GDV- which is when the stomach bloats and rotates onto itself- It is a LIFE THREATENING SURGICAL EMERGENCY. These clients recognized the symptoms and brought him to the hospital but were not financially prepared to get him the care that was needed to save his life. They have owned other Great Danes and knew that they are the most common breed to develop a GDV. No matter where you have this type of surgery done, it is extremely expensive to treat these cases. They are often in the hospital for 3-4 days. There are many complications that can develop. As an emergency veterinarian the worst part of my job is seeing pets who I can fix but whose owners cannot afford to pay for their care. Unfortunately it is extremely expensive to run a 24 hour critical care veterinary hospital. We all work very hard under very stressful circumstances, every holiday, all night long. We are very dedicated professionals and strive to provide the best medicine possible for our patients. The clinic owners HAVE to require that clients pay for services or they would go out of business. It is tragic for all of us when owners are not financially prepared for veterinary emergencies. Yes, we encourage people who do not have any form of payment to try to borrow from a friend or family member. In this case the clients declined to do that and elected euthanasia. They signed a euthanasia consent form and I drew up the solution for his injection. Miraculously a staff member at the last moment offered to rescue this older dog (and take on the financial responsibility of his medical expenses). It is very uncommon that we can offer relinquishment to rescue in lieu of euthanasia. At the time these clients told me ""We would much rather him be alive and with someone else than dead"". We did not steal this dog. He was seconds away from euthanasia because the clients wouldn't/couldn't pay for the surgery that was needed to save his life. Sadly, in todays economy people have to give up healthy pets to shelters every day because they can't afford them. It is truly a miracle that someone offered to save this dog that night. Pros: quality care 24/7 more

NEVER take your pet here! 9/12/2009

Please DO NOT take your pets here!! They will hold you over an emotional barrel for $$ and for possession of your pet. \r We recently took our Dane in as he was showing symptoms of bloat. Before even taking him in back we were told, in a ""strictly business"" manner, that it would be $80 for the visit & $130 for the x-ray. Our dog is starting to show signs of pain - what do you think we are going to say. After the x-ray confirmed bloat we were told that surgery would be $3000 - $3500. No way could we come up with that at 8 pm on a holiday week end, nor could we get a loan (through a company they conveniently have brochures for in the room) since we just replaced a car after an accident totaled our old one. Their solution since they would not take automatic deductions from our account was to call family & friends, again on a HOLIDAY WEEKEND. After leaving us to deal with the fact that we will have to put our dog to sleep because we don't have access to $3500, a women comes into the room & tells us ""It doesn't happen often.."" but they would waive some fees & provided there was no complications we would only need to come up with $2000 or ""it happens even less often"" we could sign possession of our dog over to one of their employees who would then assume financial responsibility - through emotional blackmail THEY STOLE MY DOG!! Cons: Expensive & will steal your dog more

Avoid at any cost for your pet's sake 8/10/2008

The Tacoma Emergency Clinic is not where you want to take a sick pet. Details? email me at die2win@harbornet com Pros: You can use them as a guage of where not to go Cons: Too expensive, poor staff, worse on duty ""doctors"" more

If you pet is a family member...take them anywhere but here 4/12/2008

I took two of my animals to this facility at different times over the course of three years. Had I known at the first visit what I learned at the last visit, I never would have visited at all. I think it is very problematic that a medical facility does not keep records of medical services provided...it is more than problematic, it is frightening. Drive to Seattle or anywhere before going here. Cons: Officer manager, record keeping more

I would not recommend it! 3/27/2007

My experience with this establishment was devastating. I firmly believe I lost my beloved pet because of their insufficient practice. On top of that I found no compassion there whatsoever. Combined with thousands of dollars (those were my bills) this fact in my opinion speaks volumes. I would recommend being extremely cautious when it comes to deciding on euthanasia in this facility. Unless it is an emergency situation and you are 100% positive that euthanasia is the only option for your pet - please get a second opinion. Furthermore, there is an extremely troubling aspect when it comes to this particular clinic: its business association with a certain pet crematorium. In other words: if your beloved pet is euthanized there and you chose cremation, your pet's cremation will be handled by a certain crematorium. To remain within ethical guidelines in posting of this review I will refrain from any further comments on this particular issue. Just one suggestion: don?t rely on what the clinic will tell you about how and where your pet will be cremated; drive there (to the crematorium) and see for yourself whether or not it is the kind of operation you would entrust your pet's final journey. more

ABsolutely phenomenal animal care and customer service to pet owner. GO HERE! 2/9/2007

I will be forever grateful to this vet ER. the entire staff is absolutely wonderful. My kitty was very sick and here for 3 or so days. Her vitals looked really concerning but the staff took amazing care of her. REspected me as a patient and my desires. Allowed me to visit with my pet SEVERAL times over those days and never once was annoyed or seemed put out by having to set her up with me in a room. \r \r Even when they had to have tough conversations with me regarding diseases my cat potentially had, they were extremely caring, informative, and respected/upheld my decisions for care.\r \r By day 2 they all knew me and my cat by name. when I would go there at night I would see the staff taking the dogs out for fresh air and potty breaks. They all completely and genuinely love animals, people, and their jobs.\r \r When youfirst get there, they whisk your animal away (in a good way) to get their vitals. It is an absolutely amazing process. Way better than any human hospital even! \r \r Their facility has great equipment, was always clean, I felt comfortable there for the 3 days I was there. They offered my cat a total of about 10 different food options (to get her to eat)! Talk about SERVICE! My goodness! The staff even cuddled my little kitty girl when they had spare moments and put her in a cage where they could all see her at all times when she was doing badly. It was not a noisy facility, which is sometimes a problem at vets and vet ERs. \r \r I went to another vet er in auburn and had an AWFUL experience. Lesson learned: No matter what city you are driving from, this is the place to go. Your animal will be seen faster anyway and receive TOP NOTCH care.\r \r My cat was doing very badly when I took her in. She is home now and I owe these people everything. My two cats are my world. Pros: Absolutely EVERYTHING. The Drs. also keep you aware of where you are financially so there are no surprises. These guys are SO wonderful Cons: Only one night out of 3 but there were some car lurkers outside. I just had someone walk me out. Not the vet places fault. more
