THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF! Dr Babbott ripped us off for 1374.00 The more distressed you look the more they dig in to your pockets. My 3 month old puppy was put through pain for nothing! If you care about your pets find another hospital! There's plenty around that wont take advantage of you and your family. If this was a emergency hospital for humans there would be a lawsuit. There still should be. If enough people come forward maybe there will be a class action law suit. Small claims court or something. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS THERE PLEASE!! more

AWFUL! My dog was spayed 6 days prior and I put her in a boarding facility to stay overnight so that she would not aggravate her wound while I was out of town. At 5am I recieved a phone call that my dog was taken to Angel of Mercy vet clinic without my permission. While the clinic had me on the phone-they stated that my dogs wound had opened up and they were going to have to redo her sutures and it would cost about 400 dollars.(Keep in mind that the initial surgery for my dog to get spayed was 200 dollars) After rushing back into town to pick up my dog-I was charged $55.00 for the office visit, 20 dollars for them to sedate my dog, 25 dollars for them to ""clean"" her incision, 30 dollars to bandage her incision, 25 dollars because she stayed in the hospital for over 4 hours, 6 dollars for a biohazard waste disposal, and 22 dollars for antibiotics, and 16 dollars for an E-collar. This all added up to 200 dollars. When I actually saw my dog-she was FINE. I had no problem paying for the visit to check the wound and paying for the medication to make sure the wound did not get infected. Her wound was not open, and I payed more for them to clean it and wrap an ace bandage around her waist. They felt that this warranted sedating her. I called the office manager this afternoon to inquire about some of the charges and she was VERY rude and not at all willing to refund any of the money (even though I was not present to authorize any of the treatment) My dog was fine and in no danger and I had to pay these people 200 dollars. The office manager's name is Mary and by the end of our conversation she was yelling at me. I am very thankful that the clinic cared for my pet, however, I do believe that I was overcharged and I was not appreciative about how the office manager handled my concerns considering I was not there in person to authorize any of the treatment for my animal. Do not go to this place unless you want to drop a big chunk of change!!!!! I have taken other animals to the emergency vet hospital on Huebner and 1-10 and they were WONDERFUL. more

I have had to use Angel of Mercy on several occasions and would not know what I would have done if they did not exist. I love Dr. Ridder and her staff always treats my pets as if they were their own. Yes, they do charge me more than my regular vet does but that cost is nothing in comparison to the love and care that they provide. Pros: null Cons: null more

Compassionate Care 12/13/2011

I came to Angel of Mercy on a holiday weekend and was very satisified with the service I had received. Not only was the staff friendly (despite having to work on a holiday) but their prices were very reasonable and Dr. Ridder was honest and down-to-earth. My cat was diagnosed with terminal cancer and without Dr. Ridder, I wouldn't have been able to spend as much quality time with her at home before having to make the hardest decision of my life to put her to sleep. All in all, I spent about $600 for a full diagnostic work-up and outpatient treatment, which is very good considering the specialty vet quoted me over twice that amount! I hope to never go through that again but I am comforted by the fact that there are actually people out there that care more about client and patient care rather than money. Pros: null Cons: null more

Will definitely refer people here! 11/24/2011

My cat became extremely ill one night after my vet had already closed. I really didn't like the thought of having to go some place where I was not familiar with the staff, but had no other choice. My vet recommended Angel of Mercy on the answering machine at their office. So I called and told them I was on my way. Pros: null Cons: null more

This place ROCKS!!! 10/28/2011

I?m going to make this short and simple! On October 23rd 2011 Angel of Mercy Critical Care took in my 14 year old Assie Mix at 3am he was lethargic and wasn?t breathing right Dr. Deborah Ridder found a 3 pound 4 once tumor in my babies tummy. Needless to say $2300 later and a great VET my baby is at home and recovering fast. After Dr. Ridder gave us a 50/50 chance that he might not make it. This place is expensive but if you love your animal and treat them as part of your family you?ll do anything to save them. They were also very caring and understanding. So understand this place is for emergency cases hint the critical care in the listing and they are only open overnight and weekends. Any follow ups will be with your regular vet. I give this place 10 STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I just found out from Petsmart that its not cancerous! YAY!! more

The worst Vet service. 7/27/2011

Our 9 week old puppy started having seizures cobined with a blank stare. No blinking or curiousity that a puppy usually shows. My wife brought the dog to Angel of Mercy and after initial exam they first stated the dog was seizing at this time and needs an IV with Vallium($150). That was denied so instead they placed the dog in an O2 cage(didn't offer or state cost but charged us for it). Vet presented list of diagnostic tests that need to be performed combined with the outrageous price tag. He stated that if we opted to put the puppy down, it is a "candidate for rabies testing". My wife stated she would bring the puppy home and hope all is well. \r Our poor puppy expired that night. Upon contacting Angel of Mercy in the morning concerning the rabies testing they stated "we are an overnight clinic only you need to contact your normal vet." 15 different vet clinics and 2 different ACS offices contacted trying to obtain a way of getting this test done and no luck. We did geta call back fro more

AMAZING, CARING, ATTENTIVE SERVICE 3/27/2011

I took my dog to Angel of Mercy last night because I had suspected that she had eaten rat poison and she was hemorrhaging heavily . They were short staffed but I was seen in no time at all. The tech Steven, Dr. Dale Wingfield, and the receptionist were all impeccable and caring people! After the proper blood tests were run and the vet came out to show me the results that he had printed out, he could have easily scared me (being that I have no veterinary training) into shelling out money for a blood transfusion with the platelet counts that I saw. Instead, he was assuring that although they were low they were not transfusion low. He was very thorough in explaining all the results and the care that I needed to perform for her. I am so grateful for the honest and caring staff!!! They turned a very scared woman into a relieved one and now my dog will live! more

ONLY CARES ABOUT THE MONEY 3/7/2011

by Christina 03/06/2011 \r DOESNT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS, JUST MONEY!!!!!!! I took my dog in because of a large cut on her foot. After accusing me that it had been a longer time from the time of her accident, they came out with a bill over 1500 dollars. They told me she needed surgery and skin grafts and probably wouldnt be able to even walk. After I told them I did not have that kind of money and they would not take payments, they poorly wrapped her foot back up. After informing them of exactly how much money I had available at the time the bill was amazingly exactly that amount, for a shot of pain killers, a shot of antibiotics and told me that if I didnt have the money I should put her down. I then had to take her home while she was LEAVING A BLOOD TRAIL on the ground because they wouldnt even attempt to stitch her closed. I wrapped the wound myself and changed the badages myself over the next few weeks and it is now almost completely healed and she can walk fine. They even admitted to m more

CARES ONLY FOR MONEY 3/6/2011

Do not take your pet here, Dr. Babbitt was rude 3/1/2011

I took my little dog in on a Sunday with labored breathing. We got in to see thevet pretty quick. I guess the more distressed you appear about your pet, the more the appear to prey on yor pocket book. Thats my impression only. Well, I got this $1200 estimate and was told it still may not help my dog. So, after he literally told me he needed a deposit or basically,"show me the money" attitude, I told him give me the necessary meds to get him through the day and night which he did do and we paid him $332.07 for xrays , oxygen, visit and a couple of pills. I took the records he gave me to my vet and she said it didn't look as bad as he was prtraying. She did labs which showed an infection. This Dr. Babbitt wanted to do xrays first and foremost. I have to say I am pleased I did not let him get to me and took my dog to his regular vet. more

Excellent quality of care and very knowledgable staff 12/18/2010

I took my boxer to Angel of Mercy last week when she was hit by a car. I was expecting an outrageous bill, but was pleasantly surprised when the technician brought in my estimate. The technician went over my itemized estimate to make sure I understood exactly what was needed to stabilize my dog and ensure my understanding of treatments I was paying for. The quality of care my pet received was spectacular!!! The staff was warm, caring and put my mind at ease. I was nervous about leaving my baby hospitalized over night. I am confident that without the stellar level of care she received from Dr. Ridder and her staff my sweet little Bella would not be with us today. more

stay away from this vet. 11/23/2010

My dog split her paw open between her toes and we went to "Angel" of Mercy clinic. we were seen immediately and a "vet" named Dr. Coke came out and quoted us nearly 900 dollars for stitches, and all this unecessary stuff, including "sedation." it was a minor cut and he was talking about her being paralyzed for life and not being as athletic anymore if it hit a tendon. then his little vet nurse guy came out and hit us with the bill: nearly 900 dollars and said the vet would be busy for 2 hrs and that we were to leave her with them. when WE said it included unecessary things and we just needed bandaging and antiotics and anti inflammatory meds, the rude, ghetto little male vet nurse threw a paper in front of us agressively saying "declined" and slammed a pen down, dismissing us altogether. this place is ghetto stay away. go to affordable pet care on grissom during the day if you can. more

Angel Of Mercy Animal Critical Care 3/22/2010

My girlfriend and her co-workers found that a stray had kittens in the air conditioning unit's cage outside. That night, a storm hit and when they came back on Saturday the temperature was freezing and the poor kitties were in a boat for warmth. One of the kittens didn't make it. We got them an electric blanket, took them to my mom's house and set them up with a space heater in the garage to keep them safe and warm.\r \r We have a very limited knowledge of cats or pets in general, so when we next checked on her, the cat was wheezing, sneezing, and generally sick. We panicked because it was Sunday and we didn't know if it was something serious. We didn't want her to leave behind the kittens! We called ahead and they told us it would be 65 dollars for the exam, but they could see us on a walk-in basis and that they weren't busy. Upon getting there, we had a short wait, then saw the tech (she was very nice, friendly, and knowledgeable) and then the vet (Dr. Babbitt). He was a bit dramatic a more

Not as Pricey as others 2/5/2010

Yes they can be a bit pricey BUT NOT as pricey as some other Vet places in San Antonio. When my cousin's female dog Lucy needed an emergency C-section during a difficult labor, this place was phenomenol!!! They took great care of her and treated Lucy with gentleness yet professional. When they released her to come home, they followed up with phone calls to see how she was doing. For an EMERGENCY VET CLINIC, this place is tops! more

Quick and Upfront Service! 12/28/2009

Our regular vet is usually closed over the weekend. When we woke up on Sunday morning, we found that our dog had vomited blood near his food and water bowls. We didn't know what time it had happened, but we wanted to get him seen right away. The techs at Angel of Mercy were great. They saw him right away, check for the obvious, and then informed us about what it could be - ranging from something minimal to something critical. They were also upfront about the cost of possible tests and what tests were considered optional, recommended, and necessary. Pros: My dog was quickly seen! more

Angel Of Mercy Animal Critical Care Rocks! 11/18/2009

I have always thought that vetrinary care was a bit of a "crapshoot". Animals can't talk, can't say "where it hurts", so the Vet sometimes has to guess about treating less than obvious symtems. This past weekend, the "speculation" was spot on and the treatment exceptional regarding my intestiinally distressed golden retriever. Yes, the fees are inflated... it's an EMERGENCY CLINIC for pete's sake. Go to the Methodist and get a couple of stitches and see how much that costs you! more

Available when we needed them 9/9/2009

Remember this is an EMERGENCY CARE CLINIC. Some of the reviews complained of the price, but try going to an emergency (human) room for nothing more than a sprained finger and see what your bill is!! We recently took our lab/retriever mix in for removal of over 200 porcupine quills. She had to be put under sedation, it took forever to remove the quills, and she is currently on pain and antibiotic meds. Sure it was expensive, but no other vet office was open on a national holiday. They provided great care and I have absolutely no complaints. more
