Get what you pay for... 8/20/2009

I came to America's best because I wanted an exam for contacts and my insurance only covers an exam for eye glasses OR contacts (not both) and the price for a contacts lens exam at my primary optometrist was about $200 so I thought I'd give this place a try to save money. I made an apt for 1:30 and was not seen until 2:15 even though the person who went in in front of me was seen at 1:15 so I thought for sure I would be seen on time. When I was finally attended to, I noticed the person who just got out of the dr's office was chatting and laughing it up with the dr. (they were both asian) and then the dr. coarsley said to me "ok come in now." she put the scope on me, went through the lenses extremely quickly (whole exam took about 30 sec) and when she was done I told her that the last configuration wasn't perfectly clear and I asked her to fine tune it a little more. She got extremely rude and said in a thick, impossible to understand asian accent that she's been doing this for 22 years and this is the best she can do and then told me to come back tomorrow to see another dr. I insisted that she redo the exam and spend a little more time fine-tuning my prescription. She finally agreed and the 2nd time around I was happier with what I saw on the final configuration. She said the result was the same but then I saw her writing down new numbers. Bottom line is the optometrist was extraordinarily rude, and I would not trust her with my eyes. I asked her if she had to take measurements for curvature and diameter and she said it was already done by the tech which made me wonder why I even needed to see the mean optometrist to begin with since all I needed was my base curve and diameter for contacts and then adjust the sphere from my eye glass prescription. The tech was also a huge noobie that didn't seem to know how to use the machine correctly because she had to redo the measurements several times. Bottom line is the price is cheap because the service is cheap. I would not trust my eyes to these people. more

Some like it and some hate it--you decide... 4/16/2006

You may want to consider America's best on Rockville Pike. If you purchase the Eye Care package, it can run around $100 unlimited eye exams for 3 years. You do have to prepay in advance though. Considering how much a single eye exam is, it may be worth it. It's who I use and the contacts are reasonably priced, around $15 box, depending on your type of lenses. Good Luck! more

Deceiving Ads 12/21/2005

This place attracted me because of the ads that claimed anybody in your family could get 2 pairs of glasses + a free eye exam for only $69. However, when I brought my daughter to the eye glass store, they asked if she was under 18 years of age. I said yes, and then they started to tack on fees which they said were "required." They claimed that they needed to add on the impact-resistant lenses, which was not mentioned anywhere in the ads. In total, the cost came out to be over $200 just for her, over twice the amount I expected to spend. The choices for frames were also very limited. I would not recommend this because the ads are very deceiving and this is not an honest store. more

The BEST prices on contacts and glasses! 8/6/2005

I came here since they are simply unbeatable on the price. The quality is good, too! You can get TWO pairs of glasses, including your exam, for only $70! The quality of the customer service has gone down in recent years, though they are making a concerted effort to bring it back. The only down side is you have to wait about a week for your glasses to be ready--they are sent out to a lab in Pennsylvania. However, I think the bargain is worth the wait! more
