Fun, but Hold Onto Your Wallet 12/28/2006

What a concept! You can have brunch here, tea, see a show, and of course you can shop for yourself and your dolls. You can even have a birthday party here and get your doll's hair done! All of this comes at a big price, of course (though the meals are quite reasonable, and they are named after the historical dolls, which can be a lot of fun). I like the concept because the dolls are wholesome, they come with books, and the historical dolls come with a story that is relevant to history. The dolls and the clothes really aren't high enough quality to justify the high prices, but I'll admit I'm totally sucked into the phenomenon and a bit addicted. With only 3 stores in the whole country, doll lovers in the Northeast must trek into NYC. You can easily make a day of this place with a child, but get ready to shell out more money for the doll clothes than for yourself. more

Adorable store. 8/30/2006

We spent a day in NYC last week and this is one of the stops we made. It's such an adorable store! It's very bright and cheerful inside and the employees are so friendly and helpful. The store is clearly divided into three levels and the things that are available for the girls to do are great. My advice is to come early, especially if you plan to have your doll's hair done at the salon or eat in the restaurant. more

An Amazing Adventure (for girls) 8/20/2005

American Girl Place is the perfect place to bring your little girl while in New York City. Located right near Saks Fifth Avenue, it is in the heart of the upscale shopping district. (I believe it is at the corner of 5th Ave and 49th St?) Here your girl will find dolls, doll/doll-related collectibles, doll accessories (and clothes), doll books, a doll cafe, a doll hospital, and even a doll hair salon! The whole store is just an amazing adventure, for girls that is. This store is a model of superb customer service. Each of the four floors has many employees, all of whom know a LOT about American Girl dolls and are willing to help you. Unfortunately, all this service and style comes at a price- each high-quality product will cost you a ton of money. (ex. Doll outfits for $26, dolls for $100+) more

A little girl's dream. 8/10/2005

American Girl is the perfect place to take any little girl. It's such a magical place. The cafe is amazing and the theater, like a real broadway play. Make sure you set a spending limit before you go because everything is a little pricey there, but well worth any amount of money that you spend. Your little girl won't ever forget the memories that you make there. more
