Editorial review from Citysearch 1/9/2014

I believe the services were adequate and the treatment for my wifes foot problem seems to have worked OK. My problem was when the bill arrived it stated that my wife was a NEW patient and CHARGED a outrageous $110.00 FEE. My wife had been a patient for many years but had not been back for the last three years and they said that made her a new patient. COME ON MAN that is a RIPPOFF I tried to negotiate with them in good faith and even offered them 55 dollars for setting her back up as a patient. They are Adamant that they HAVE TO HAVE THEIR FULL 110 DOLLARS RIGHT NOW(Translation My money) even threatening to send a 55 dollar balance to a collection agency and it is only 60 days out. What a bunch of greedy individuals the lady at the office even called and TOLD ME that it was against the LAW for them to change the invoice amount. OMG they must think that all their patients just came in off the turnip truck . Obviously the money is much more important to them than the patients and doing the right thing. I would steer clear if I had any choice. more

Arrogant and acts like he could care less 8/15/2011

I had heard that Dr. Somers was an excellent podiatrist. He keep us waiting quite a long time, and when he did see my sister, he seemed like he was in a hurry and treated us with an offhand attitude. She is diabetic, and I was trying to give him some background, but he acted like he knew everything and only briefly glanced at her paperwork. When I tried to point out something about one of her big toes, he looked at me and said something like, "Do you want to do this?" How rude. He clipped her toenails like I've seen some vets clip a cat's or dog's toenails. He left the office fairly abruptly after saying we needed to come back in August. We will not be going back -- ever! more

Very Rude to my Parents - walked out during wound care 7/26/2011

My parents just came by my office after visiting Dr. Somers for my 81-year old Mom's diabetic wound. He was busy trimming the dead skin off Mom's foot and asking Dad how he was caring for it. He told him he was using an antibiotic ointment, which was blessed by Mom's PCP, and shared other ways he was treating her wound, and the doctor asked my Dad "Do you want to do this" in an inflammatory way. Dad, of course told him no, but the doctor had other things to say in such a manner as to upset my Dad who went on to tell him he couldn't talk to him that way. Please understand, that my Mother is very frail, has dementia, is in a wheel chair and can't hear well. Dad has been her care giver for many years now and does an excellent job. Mom knew they were having words, but couldn't hear what was being said. The next thing that happened was that the doctor slapped a bandage on Mom's foot and walked out the door without another word. They didn't know the visit was over. Dad put Mom back in her wheelchair and opened the door and asked if they were done. They were told yes, but by now my Mom is in tears because of how Dad was abused. This doctor never told them how to treat the wound or made any recommendations about returning for further care, just "walked out". My Mom was still in tears one hour later....broke my heart. She is such a sweet gentle fragile woman. He was not the caring listener others have talked about, and I am very angry! I guess he just thought they were beneath him. I don't care who you are, you don't treat others like that...especially someone who is seeking you advice of life threatening issues. Shame on you Dr. Somers. more

I still have pain one year after surgery. 7/14/2010

Dr. Somers performed bunion surgery on both my big and little toes in July, 2009. I returned to him several times complaining that I was still having pain and was unable to walk for more than an hour or so without severe pain. He made x-rays and said everything looked fine. I finally consulted another doctor who diagnosed Morton's neuroma and plantar fascitis. I believe these problems were caused by Dr. Somers's follow-up care after my surgery. I left the hospital wearing a rigid-soled shoe with an adjustable velcro closure. I wore this shoe for several weeks after the surgery since I couldn't wear regular shoes because of the swelling. Dr. Somers knew this as I was wearing it on my visits to him and told him I couldn't wear regular shoes, yet he failed to warn me that this could cause other problems. Later, when I continued to have pain, he did not diagnose either Morton's neuroma or plantar fascitis nor did he suggest other tests to determine the cause of the pain or offer any treatment. I've read the other positive reviews but I would advise choosing another doctor. Pros: Location Cons: Didn't diagnose common foot problems after surgery. more

Caring, gentle, and MOST IMPORTANT the BEST at what they do. Dr. Somers removed BOTH bunions on my feet and there is NO scar - it's incredible and now I can walk, run and exercise all day with no pain. EVERY Hospital employee in Nashville will tell you this is the best foot/ankle surgeon in the Southeastern US. Pros: Compassionate, THE BEST, professional more
