Best

When I am in LA, this where I go to get the type of quality that I am accustomed to, if I am in NYC the I use Salon AKS, but here on the west coast the salon has a wonderful vibe...

Worst

Ok so a few months ago I wanted to treat myself to a color and cut from a ""celebrity stylist"". Let me just say that if you find someone on City Search be certain to do your hom...

Get hair with Verve!!! 2/8/2006

Alyson is amazing. I've been a loyal customer for several years and I won't go to anyone else for my hair...ever!!! Her highlights are so natural looking and my hair always has so much bounce and shape after her cuts. I've always been thrilled every time she does my hair. I love the tone and she really brings my hair back to it's natural state like when I was a teenager after a summer in the sunshine!! Before I met Alyson, other stylists would make my highlights too brassy or white and the color washed out my fair skin tone...Alyson's highlights compliment my features and bring out my hair's natural beauty. Her cuts are also the best!!! My hair is pretty fine and somehow her cuts give it the shape & volume it needs to work with long layers. Alyson's skill level is worth every penny!!! Pros: listens to you, lovely demeanor, amazing hightlights more

Lovely job 1/24/2006

Alyson is a god send. I came to her with tri colored hair after a truly bad color experience from another salon. I was nervous to have anyone even touch it. But I read the reviews then spoke with her on the phone. She listened to my plight, she figured out what needed to be done, and then quietly, she ""fixed"" my hair. Voila! I look like me again. Back to my natural brunette state! I can't tell you how happy I am to have found such a skilled colorist. Pros: extremely skilled, great listener, good atmosphere more

Best hair stylist in california 1/5/2006

Alyson does the most natural highlights and the bet hair cut I have ever had, I have curly fine hair, my natural hair color is sandy brown. With the cut she gives me I'am able to blow dry my hair out or leave it natural. When my hair grows out it looks so natural that know one can tell. I get lots of complements on my hair. Alyson is the best hair stylist I have ever met. She has such a positive attitude she makes me feel great. Pros: Best customer service, Exellent colorist, Trend setter in hair more

Phenomenal! 12/30/2005

For those of you who have never been to Alyson you can rest assured you are in very good hands. Her attention to detail is exceptional and she is by far worth every cent. My hair has been in her care for many years now and my only complaint is I did not find her sooner. Let the bad hair days be a thing of the past, give this woman a call! Pros: Exceptional Value, Friendly Service, Great results more

Top Quality 12/29/2005

I've been going to Alyson for 10 years and her cuts are awesome. If you're looking for a high quality cut in the style you want, she's definitely for you. Also, if you're looking for advice on which way to go with your hair, the one unique skill Alyson has over all others I've been to is to give great suggestions and recommendations. She has her finger on what's hip and stylish and can do just about anything. The great thing about the cut is the personal touch. She's warm and friendly without the stuffiness you may get from some pre-madonnas. Absolutely try her out, especially if you're looking for someone whom is flexible and dependable. Pros: Great suggestions, Does it right, High Quality more

BEST HAIRSTYLIST & COLORIST OF ALL TIME!!!!!! 12/28/2005

I have found the best hairstylist and colorist of all time-ALYSON POWELL!!!! After searching Los Angeles for a truly talented stylist, I have found a home at the Ken Paves salon with ALYSON. I'm not even going to tell you how far away I live.... Let's just say, it's nowhere close to West Hollywood, but it is worth all the time and traffic it takes because this girl is AMAZING!!!! I can not rave enough about my cut, hilites and condition of my hair since I started seeing her. People stop me all the time and ask who does my hair. Seriously, how often do people stop you and ask who does your hair? It already happened 4 times this week which is why I am writing this review. Go see her. ALYSON is AMAZING and I would recommend her to anyone!!!! Thanks so much ALYSON!!!! Pros: Very Creative, Precision, Dependable more

Top flight professional 12/20/2005

Alyson is the best you can find. Don't go anywhere else, don't talk to any other hair cutter, designer, or sylist. Call Alyson and book an appointment. You'll thank yourself over and over again! more

Perfect Combination 12/19/2005

Unlike other stylist who are more concerend with how quickly they can do your cut and color. Alyson listens to you, and gives her input and then makes sure you are happy. Over the past 6 years she has always done a great job. She is truly the best at what she does. Also, she has great vision for what will look best. My wife and I both go to her. more

New talent just moved to your area... 12/18/2005

You guys in So. Cal. are in for a treat. I first met Alyson around my 30th birthday when another hairstylist turned my hair fluorescent orange. Alyson was able to help me get my hair back to natural looking blond highlights; I've been with her for 12 years and won't let anyone else touch my hair. Hopefully you won't have to hear the words ""don't freak"" from your hairstylist like I did - but if you are looking for a real color professional, you can't do better than Alyson. My husband and I hope that she will keep coming to the SF bay area to support her n. cal. customers, but she is definitely worth a try. I've never been to her new site, so I can't give you much info there. Pros: professional, detail oriented, customer focus more

Bodacious Highlights, Awesome Cut 12/16/2005

Alyson has cut and highlighted my hair for 17+ years. Today we did a breakout new cut -- very fun to shorten it up in back, but still leave it full in front. My husband loves it (and, after 20 years, it take SOMETHING to make HIM notice. ;-)) Thanks, Alyson! Meanwhile, what I said five years ago is still true about her awesome coloring skills ... Lots of tiny, multicolor red-gold highlights make it both look natural and grow out great. She rescued my 20th high-school reunion -- I had a megabuck cut from the (famous) head of three SF salons ... looked like a short, dead haystack -- she trimmed me back into the land of the living. I'm pretty conservative, so she downplays her hip/creative side and just ensures that I look good. (Though I do appreciate her eco-sensitive approach to my head!) Now that she only comes up to Northern California once every six weeks, I plan my schedule accordingly. Though I may get caught and see you in LA some time. Pros: Great Value, Rescue Expert, Natural Highlights more

Alyson makes me look good, and is fun! 12/15/2005

Alyson has been cutting my hair for years, and we have been through some different styles together. I love her skill at making a cut easy to care for and yet hip and stylish. She seems to always be happy and I enjoy talking with her as she works. She is an interesting and kind person, and an artist with a cut. more

Alyson has been styling my hair for years and I follow her whereever she goes. She listens to what you want and then makes recommendations. The end result is always great. You will not be disappointed! more

just okay 11/16/2005

I read about this place and how wonderful their red velvet cake is. My friend and I drove by last night and needless to say, I had to stop. We quickly ran in and grabbed a cake. They all looked good and were reasonbly priced at $4.50 each. The employees told me that the red velvet cake is the best in town and all of the rest. Though the cake looked wonderful, only to icing is raveable. The cake was dense and tasted like sweat cornbread with a cream cheese icing. It isn't worth going back for. I don't know what the food taste like at Doughboys but the experience that I had with the red velvet cake, I know that I will probably not go back for any other pastries. more

Perfect for brunch 10/26/2005

Doughboys has a pretty extensive menu, with lots of breakfast choices and also unique soups and sandwiches. I especially love the giant bowl of french onion soup. The portions are all very big, so you will probably have leftovers. This is a great place to go for brunch on the weekends, although you will have to wait to get a table. There is seating both inside and outside and it's a cool atmosphere. Lots of dessert options too... PROS: CONS: Difficult to find parking on 3rd, wait for a table more

Overrated 8/4/2005

When I read reviews of this place I couldn't wait to try it, I went the next week. When I got there I was a little discouraged when I saw the wait since it was such a hot die but was happy to be seated on the inside where there was AC. The menu was inviting, lots of things sounded good. We ordered the nacho potatoes and each got a sandwich. When the potatoes arrived they looked good but were really bland. The salsa that came with them was like tomato paste and ketchup mixed together. I ordered the "Mimi's sandwich" which ended up being like some sort of canned pickled salad mixed with red cabbage. It was awful. I spooned out the salad and ate the crust of the bread, which seemed to be okay. Our waitress kind of forgot about us until it was time for the bill. All in all, it was not great. more
