Alyson Powell = best haircut! I recently moved here from Chicago, and choosing from L.A.'s many highly rated salons, proved to be quite a challenge. Having had two bad haircuts elsewhere (at known salons), my hair was a mess. After getting acquainted with Alyson over the phone and then again in person, and upon her careful observation, I was confident she knew just what to do. She took her time, stayed focused and never once let herself get distracted. I was very impressed. It has been years since I have had a great ""curly"" cut and since my hair is a work in progress (recovering from the previous bad cuts), I am actually looking forward to our next haircut. In the meantime, I am on board for highlights and another interesting chat with Alyson! more

I got my hair highlighted a few weeks ago and it looks fantastic. My hair is very curly, and after finding Alyson on Citysearch, I knew she was the lady to go to. I have extremely curly hair and have spent my entire life trying to find someone who could cut it properly! I've lived in big cities like New York and Chicago, and have been to some great stylists, but Alyson is the first person I've found who really took the time to understand what I was looking for, and who cut my hair like a pro. Going to get my haircut is such a treat now, because I know I'm going to walk out of there with a great haircut that will look equally as good on day 1 as it does on day 60! Not to mention the fact that Alyson is lovely and pleasant to be around. Please note: I am NOT a personal friend, I am a client, and I was very sad to see the few negative reviews posted. I don't know what those people could be thinking - Alyson has always been 100% straight-up with me about the price of the haircut, and she is a lot more reasonably priced that others I've tried (and does a much better job). Alyson, PLEASE don't trouble yourself about the few people who can't appreciate a good stylist when they see one - you're a pro as evidenced by all of the good reviews on here. I found Alyson on CitySearch, and I would 100% recommend that anyone (especially those with curly hair) check her out - you won't be disappointed! Several years ago I was looking for a hairstylist who can create a beautiful layered style for my thin medium length hair. I tried several places in Santa Monica and Beverly Hills but every time it was not exactly what I wanted. Finally I found Alyson Powell through Citysearch and decided to try. I brought her a hairstyle picture out of a magazine and I was truly amazed when she gave me a haircut that looked so much better than the picture! I went to see Alyson for the first time about 3 months ago and she did such a great job that my sister went to see her a couple weeks later. Both of us have been back to see Alyson and plan to continue to do so. She specializes in curly hair, which is great for me because I have thick, dry curly hair that is very difficult to wash and wear. She paid special attention to what shape would compliment my face and when I left the salon, I was extremely pleased. But it's easy to love the way you look when you leave the salon. The real test is how your hair looks after the first shower when you have to style it yourself. Alyson gave me such a great cut that I can style it myself in about 10 minutes and it looks great curly or straight! Pros: Professional, Fun, Attention To Detail, Caring and Knowing! Cons: You get way more than your money's worth more

I have thick, curly hair and have had my share of bad haircuts by stylists who just didn't understand curl. So I was very nervous about finding a new stylist when I moved to southern California. But then I found Alyson and her skill and willingness to talk through my needs put me immediately at ease, and I wound up getting the BEST haircut I have ever had!!! My best friend, who has known me for 25 years, said exactly the same thing when she saw me.......... that this is the BEST cut I have ever had. This week I had a four month follow-up cut, and it's every bit as good as the first. Pros: She cuts with real intelligence, care, focus, and vision. The whole experience is really enjoyable. Ok so a few months ago I wanted to treat myself to a color and cut from a ""celebrity stylist"". Let me just say that if you find someone on City Search be certain to do your homework and google them as well. If there isn't any other info on that person than pick someone else. Putting ""celebrity stylist"" next to your name on an advertisement doesn't mean you are one. Never before have I ever felt compelled to write an online review for a service I received. But WOW--Alyson is amazing! Alyson spent an extended amount of time discussing both what I wanted and what I needed before even mixing colors or breaking out the scissors. She listened to me so intently, I knew I had made a wise choice coming to her. I have never felt so at ease in a salon or more confident in a stylist. She knew exactly how to cut my super fine hair and gave me the most gorgeous, natural highlights EVER. My hair has style--finally!--and the color is so perfect for me, it doesn't even look like I had it ""done,"" it just looks great! It's exactly what I wanted. Alyson is a master stylist and a true artist. The receptionist and the other stylists were also very friendly and helpful while I was there. The salon is quiet and tranquil, and I parked right in back without a problem. All in all, hands down the BEST hair experience I have ever had. I don't spend money lightly, but having Alyson do my hair was the soundest beauty investment I've made in a long time. Thank you, Alyson! Having created the award show gift basket and lounge industries, I have many, many great haircuts by the country's top stylists. As my favorite LA stylist had recently moved, I was looking for someone new. I had tried three stylists and didn't like the cuts I had gotten, they weren't fresh or new and they didn't seem to fit my face either. One day, I read an ecstatic review from a friend of a friend about Alyson, which ""spoke"" to me! The review mentioned how much time Alyson took to get this woman's haircut just right, how Alyson had asked her lots of questions and then had spent time to look at the face of the woman to gain perspective on how her hair grows. Okay! Just weeks before going to see Alyson, I was lucky to get 10 minutes (for a $450 cut) with a top stylist who ran his fingers through my hair and told me I had the best hair he'd seen - only 10 minutes for the best hair you've ever seen?! Anyway, he snipped away like I was a mannequin, barking prima donna orders at his assistants the entire time, whereas Alyson cut and hummed and swooned over me like I was a valued human being. I love what she did and I get lots of compliments on it! I have found my new stylist! more

I have long, mid back, dark black hair that is very silky in texture. Great hair but it hangs perfectly straight. Why are we never satisfied? Where others might love the straight hair, I wanted a little bit of wave or curl without treatment. Alyson gave me a cut that has multiple lengths that somehow gives my hair the volume and the appearance of waves. I love it and I can exaggerate the look with a curling iron. At other times the care is an easy blowdry. Also, Alyson gave me subtle highlights that shine beautifully. Absolutely the best! Pros: Excellent multi tone color, fantastic percision cut more

I have long, straight blond hair. Very simple so you wouldn't think it'd be so hard to cut. Every stylist I've ever been to just trims it. They don't give me a ""cut"" or a ""style"", they just lop off the dead ends and send me on my way. Alyson studied my hair and gave the best haircut I've ever had. Haircut always looks best after a week or two of growth. I can't believe Alyson can see into the future like that but whatever she does, she does it darn well. $175 is a lot of money for me. I've only ever paid about $60 for a cut. But I scrimp and save and happily pay that much in order to have this beautiful hair. I will never leave Alyson. Alyson does the best haircolor weave of any one I heve ever gone to see. Multi layered hues, brilliant color and a multi layered cut that is just perfect. The salon is great with lots of light, great music and valet parking. more

She is very nice, but can not cut hair. I had high expecations after reading all these great reviews...and was wildly disappointed. I left with hair with my hair styled like hers, which I did not ask for or want. It was also filled with so much product that it was still wet a half hour later. I had to go home and wash my hair. The cut was incredibly uneven and unattractive. And I had terrible split ends within two weeks - this is not normal. At she certainly isn't cheap. Pros: She is nice. Cons: She can't cut hair. more

Alyson is a genious in her craft, she not only loves her what she does,this woman can cut ,color and consult all while making you fill magnificient throughout the process.she also tell you how to maintain and treat your hair yourself in between visits which is well worth the visit. more
