i was optimistic in trying this uptown nail salon, which i frequently pass by. upon entering, you are greeted in a friendly manner and the salon does not reek of chemicals as many nail salons do. no one else was getting a manicure, but several ladies were getting pedicures.
the manicurist was very nice, but didn't speak any english, so it was hard to explain an issue, such as the uneven coating of nail color. the application was not very precise, and i had to point things out to be fixed. she wasn't rushed but i don't think she cared or looked very closely. the quality of the top coat is not very good- i sat under the drier for a long time, and still the top varnish smudged.
as for price, they post $13 for a manicure, but charge $15. if you want to use a credit card, they add an extra dollar (or two if >$40). with tip, you're spending close to $20 for a manicure you may end up undoing once you get home because it looks like you did it yourself.
Pros: doesn't stink of chemicals
Cons: uneven painting, charge more than posted amount
