I'm very impressed. One could argue that I'm a bit picky about salons and spas. I expect a comfortable atmosphere, personality, and professionalism. Cleanliness is of utmost importance and this salon is super clean. The atmosphere is urban cool and trendy, but it's not so pretentiously hip that my mother would be uncomfortable. Everyone on staff seems genuinely friendly and are polite and professional. Beyond that, my stylist is phenomenal. He may be the best thing that's ever happened to my hair. Trevor knows what cuts will work with different hair types, which products to use to get the desired effect, and how to teach you to recreate your look at home. He has seen me through long, short, and in-between and he always manages to make my hair look fabulous. People often ask who does my hair and I receive many compliments. I attribute very little to my hairstyling efforts and give the credit where it is due-a great cut. Do yourself a favor and book with Trevor - you'll only be sorry you didn't do so sooner. Ranging from brows to a cut, this is the place to go. The stylists are oober detail-oriented, making sure your cut is perfect and edgy given the current fashions in other parts of the world. I am really fascinated by the amount of detail that is devoted to a single haircut, which makes me all the more appreciative of this salon. By the way-super modern setting with a great atmosphere of light music and friendly customer-service representatives. more

Alter Ego in Raleigh is fun, exciting and you feel like a million dollars when you leave. As soon as I arrived I was greeted immediately and was offered something to drink. Dana was amazing. Having just moved down from DC I was worried if I would not get the same experience and concerned like most women on how my hair would look with my new stylist. I had no worries as Dana is highly professional and actually listened to everything I wanted and was looking for in my new style. She was determined I would not leave unless I was satisfied. I've gone back today for my 3rd time and am still very happy and very satisfied with my hair, I am so satisfied that I am having Dana do my hair for my upcoming wedding next Saturday in Chapel Hill. more

I would recommend this salon to all anyone!! I've been a client of Dana's for over 3.5 years and have followed her from salon to salon. It's excited that she has opened up her own salon and put her own unique touch and style to it. Overall it's a relaxed atmosphere that allows you to unwind and enjoy getting pampered a bit. First the atmosphere is great - lots of open space so you don't feel cramped. Second Dana is the very best hairdresser I have ever had! Alter Ego is the greatest place to sit and relax while good hearted people cut your fantastic hair do. The girls/guys are lovely and will listen to your whole life story if you shall so desire! Dana is my stylist but there are many other great stylists there that will do a fabulous job on short notice. Dana has stayed after hours in a dire emergency I had and it still was one of the best hair cuts she has done on me. I recently had an hair appointment (highlight, lowlight, cut and style) with Trevor and was very pleased with the results! The new salon is very bright and open, with a great view of downtown out of the large windows. Very relaxing waiting room and the salon stools are SOOO comfortable! The stylists/receptionists make you feel welcome and it's not the rushed, cramped atmosphere as in other salons. The price is competitive with similar salons, but it doesn't have the stuck-up feel like so many others. The ability to schedule your appointment online is a huge bonus! I went onto the website on Labor Day and had an appointment for the next day! Trevor is a great stylist...makes you feel welcome, but really focuses on getting your hair perfect for you. I am new to town and was undecided on where to go for a much needed hair cut and color. Everything is sooo overpriced at a lot of salons and I was not about to pay a fortune for something I didnt like. I came across Alter Ego by chance and am incredibily glad I did! I was able to book my appointment on line (very quick and easy) and from the minute I got off the elevator I felt very welcome. I was making a big change from long to short hair (I took about 10 inches off-never been that short!) and my stylist, Hannah, was great. She talked me through everything and it turned out fabulous!! I couldn't be any happier with the way it turned out. All of the other staff that was there was also very friendly and always smiled and said hello as they walked by (which you often don't get a lot of high end places). The front desk (Shawn) was also great! Not pushy with product sales and made sure I didn't forget anything. I would recommend Alter Ego to anyone looking the benefits and results of a top salon without the prices and snotty attitudes! Pros: Staff, internet booking, price, pretty much everything! I had previously gone to another salon and tried Alter Ego when my stylist, Trevor, moved there. He is absolutely fabulous and works to make sure that you are completely satisfied with your hair. He is excellent at color. The rest of the staff is also friendly and courteous. The atmosphere is really trendy and it has an open feel. Went in a few weeks ago and was impressed immediately with the layout of the place - you pretty much get a full view/feel of the salon as soon as the elevator doors open (which open right into the salon...kinda ""loftish""). You're greeted by the receptionist and then quickly taken to your stylist...I had NO waiting! (even though I did have an appointment). Ask for Trevor....he did a great job for me. And the price was very reasonable for the ""men's cut"". The place is friendly to female and male alike (not intimidating overboard like some of those other places). I can see this place really taking off...definitely a well kept Raleigh secret. Try them out next time...you have nothing to lose....except your hair! Haha! Seriously though, they do a great, professional job in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. And their talent is top notch. Oh, and you can book an appointment online. What a great idea! I used to get my haircut just anywhere until I let Dana at Alter Ego cut my hair. Not only can she cut it so that I have more ""coverage"" for my receding hairline, but she had shampoos and conditioners specifically designed for men with receding hairlines. My experience at Alter Ego was great! From booking my appointment online (extremely convenient), to the relaxed ambiance and very competent stylist, I've been recommending this place to everyone. Hannah was my stylist and she was very good - I was out in under an hour, and she was friendly yet professional. Also, since they're a new salon in Raleigh, they're offering great deals right now, like $40 off a haircut/color/nail package. So I'd say quality + economy + good results = definite recommendation. by the way, this is my first time to ever recommend anything on a website, so you know it must be good! I live in Cary, but one of my friends told me about this place. I loveeee my haircut!!! I had gotten a not-so-good cut a few months before, so I was a little apprehensive; but it turned out great! I got a edgy version of the bob, its cool because I can style it so many ways (after my stylist told me how!). I have told all of my friends about Alter Ego, and they all seemed excited. I think it opened up a few weeks ago, so I got an apt. pretty easy. I loved loved loved my experience at alter ego. I just moved to Raleigh from NYC and was worried I wouldn't find a salon I liked in Raleigh. This place is trendy, artsy, and the girls that work there are super cute and nice! They offer you a beverage with your service, free of charge--I enjoyed a glass of wine. My color turned out beautifully and my haircut is fantastic. They just opened, so it's pretty easy to get an appointment now. I highly recommend alter ego!!!!!! Pros: Very intimate urban experience since salon is on second floor. Cons: it took a couple of minutes to find a spot, but it was well worth it. there is also a parking garage right behind the salon where you can pay by the hour. more

This salon is spacious and beautiful. It is located in the historic art district downtown (near Marbles Museum and IMAX) and doubles as a gallery. It has 14 foot tin ceilings that look like wedding cake icing, and 10 foot windows throughout. The service I received was impeccable, and they have some really great specials now for their grand opening. I loved being able to get hair, nails, and waxing all done at once. I've gotten lots of compliments on my hair color and french manicure. The nail setup is really cool because its a row of couches and they bring everything to you. Highly recommended!
