Awesome Bakery 7/21/2011

If you live in Bellevue or if you don't and are willing to drive a little to get quality breads and pastries that you can't find anywhere else, this is the place. Their cakes are first quality. Their breads fresh and so good you will want to just eat them without anything on them. The pastries esp the croissants and snowballs are to die for. I haven't found anything near this quality anywhere else in the Nashville area. I can find things here that I ate while living in Japan that no one else makes. This small business is locally owned and its employees work very hard. Highly recommended. They serve an incredible brunch in the mornings as well. Make sure you check their hours, not open Monday or late evenings. They make everything fresh daily so come early or call to order to avoid disappointment. more

I'm impressed. Interesting items. 10/13/2009

I grew up a few miles from this bakery and never noticed it. When I finally did, I was so happy to find such an eclectic mix of products. I had a sampling of pastries, tiramisu, and cookies (I shared!) and took home a loaf of their sourdough and their rye. I look forward to returning to try their cakes and other breads. I am really impressed that they produce so much with so little space in the back. The cashier was not able to answer most of my questions but tried. The place really needs a makeover, but I will definitely be a repeat customer. Pros: good variety Cons: not for eating in, staff not very knowledgeable more

Good food, not so good service 8/2/2009

I like to come here despite the fact that it is out of my way because I really like the bread and pastries. My favorite bread is fan bread. The pastries I like most are the danishes and eclairs. The curry pan is also tasty. The service is questionable though. The signs everywhere do convey a negative attitude. My family and I went there once about thirty minutes til closing. The cashier asked if we were getting it to go, because the store was closing soon. Sounded like a thinly disguised ""Get out"" to me, which was not appreciated since I just got a large order. The barbecue sandwich was NOT GOOD either. Pros: Good patries and bread Cons: Service isn't so great more

Best Bakery In TN 4/19/2008

I used to work in Brentwood area for a long times ago, even though now i am not work there, but i still go back there for the cake, i love the strawberry cake, every time my family and i have party going on i always call to oder some cakes, I love the breaks and cake, drink, i think this is the best place in TN, I don't think they have a bad services, they do the jobs, and working hard everyday, you should tips them, not complaint. Because they are working really hard for your food. Gob Bless the own, with every single person work in Alpha bakery, My family and I would like to say Thank you Very much for your food . best wish!!! Pros: Best place Cons: No Complaint more

Light flaky pastries, fresh breads, great variety 2/8/2008

I love the light, buttery pastries. The almond croissant is especially good-buttery and sweet at the same time. They have a great variety-everything from cakes, to french type breads and even a few Asian style breads. This place shines over chain store bakeries. After eating here, eating from the grocery store bakery is like eating cardboard. I highly recommend the fresh raisin breads, the croissants, and the strawberry cake. Pros: Outstanding quality Cons: Seating can be a bit tight more

best bakery 2/1/2008

I took my daughter out to lunch here. The apricot danish was delicious!!! I had to by a loaf of cinnamon bread to take home, which was also wonderful. Pros: great food, great ambience Cons: small more

Nothing improves quality of life like a wonderful bakery 9/14/2007

This rating is limited to the bakery side of the business. The pastries are as good as any I've had in NY, Paris, or Hong Kong. The cake is what cake should be. A perfect crumb, a refreshing, balanced sweetness, and right on target with moisture. The cake is also a wonderful foil for delicate frostings and fresh fruit. The breads I've tasted are flavorful with great texture, crispy crusts, and extraordinary toastablility. Cookies were also superior. If I had one negative comment it would be their limited selection (compared to the NY bakeries of my youth) however I'd much rather see a few things done well than a slew of average offerings. Pros: world class baked offerings Cons: the sandwiches are not in the same league as their baked goods more

extrodinary quality, reasonable pricing, 9/11/2007

Very unique. outstanding quality and originality. Mrs Chen is truly a jewel of a person.. She and her staff, are constantly providing the best and tastiest products in Nashville. They offer the European flair of great hearth baked breads, croissants and danish, and the exotic cakes such as Taro roulade and the smooth and melt in your mouth, strawberry cakes. The German Rye, and 3 seed fruit-nut and grain breads are just two of my favorites -both excellent and healthy. There is no better Challah breads to be found in Tenn. The almond croissants and sliced apple danish go very fast. Alpha is definitely worth a daily visit for all bakery needs. A treasure of a destination!!!!! Pros: freshest, highest quality, very personable, family owned more

worst customer service ever 3/14/2007

my daughter and grandchildren went with me to alpha bakery for lunch. when i got my sandwhich it took two bites before i realized i got egg salad instead of chicken salad. when my daughter took it back to the counter they said they would give me 20 per cent off a chicken salad sandwhich but i had to pay for the egg salad because i ate two bites. the manager refused to talk to me. two ladies sitting at the next table couldn't believe what just happened. they said they have been patrons there for a while but the customer service had been getting worse. they got up and left their food and said they would not return. i have never been treated so rudely before. Pros: food and pastries good Cons: worst customer service i have ever encountered more

Rules, rules! 2/17/2007

I didn't have time to read all the signs put EVERYWHERE! Rules about this, rules about that. Don't the owners know this is NOT the way to get comeback customers. It's cheap and presents a negative attitude. I got to the bakery 1 hour before closing and ordered 3 sweet rolls. Then I saw ""the sign"" that said it would be appreciated if I would order $5 worth if using credit card. Didn't want to spend that much, but felt I had to. Signs on the register, signs on the door, signs everywhere to correct your behavior unless you do something the owners have learned they don't like! Everybody takes up for them, but I say they have issues against somebody! Pros: Convenient Cons: Too many rules more

Great bakery, questionable service 9/5/2006

I find Alpha Bakery's baked goods to be excellent, and although I've never tried the sandwiches they look great. The only complaint I have about this little bakery is the service-and I am hoping it was just a fluke. I stopped in this morning after running an emergency errand to get a snack--I ran out of the house so fast, I threw on a pair of jeans and a flannel shirt to keep the september morning at bay. SO perhaps I was a little ""under-dressed"" for the woman behind the counter at Alpha Bakery, who refused to look at me the entire time she dealt with my order, and after I took the time to count out the change she turned to her co-worker without a word to me (not even ""Thanks"" or ""Have a nice day"") and announced loudly ""You have to check all the twenties, too, to make sure they aren't counterfeit. The banks sometimes hand them out and they don't know."" Pros: baked goods Cons: the surly brunette behind the counter more

Excellent-- editor's review is off-mark 6/21/2004

When doing my list of pros & cons about whether or not to move from Bellevue, I actually had to consider distance from Alpha Bakery as a con... Mr. & Mrs. Chen's little bakery is a treasure. It's not your average collection of ho-hum cake covered in sweetened lard... this is art baking, European-style, by way of Asia. The pastries aren't as sweet as the cloying stuff you'll get at WalMart, and everything's real, fresh and delicious. The Asian delicacies are fantastic, especially the ""curry pan"" and ""an pan."" And as for the bread... oh lord... Do yourself a favor. Drive west and visit Alpha Bakery. Go now. Pros: Quality of Food, Clean, Inventive menu Cons: , They run out early, Just one location more

Wow!! Yummy..!!! 8/2/2003

Oh my God..!! The 'egg salad on dinner roll' is soooo yummy!! I tried it for the first time and I bought more after that.. The cake is sooo delicious.. I love 'Strawberry & whipped cream' the most.. I have tried different bakeries before but Alpha Bakery is really the best so far..! The cons are it's quite far from Downtown/West End area and it doesn't have delivery service.. Other than that, I seriously recommend this bakery. Pros: Delicious Cakes, Desserts & Breads, Good service Cons: No delivery, Far (location) more

Best Bakery in Town!! 12/4/2002

Alpha Bakery is a great family run business! The food is good and they make everything from scratch. It's a little over priced, but you get your moneys worth. It is also in a good loction, for people to see a movie and have a good snack after. Pros: Freashly cooked bread, healthy, great service Cons: not a lot of seating more

editorial review is ridiculous 11/26/2002

I am a college student in Nashville and I love the alpha bakery. It has a nice quaint feel to it and it is also very affordable. I go in for snacks between breaks in my class schedule. The editorial review made it sound like a dark horrible place, but it is actually well lit and cute. It is not a commercial bakery. It is a family owned bakery. The editor must not be familiar with nice homely simplicity that is not overly priced or prepacked. There are freshly baked croissants, tarts, cakes, french horns, baklava (how do you spell that anyway?), and so much more. You just go in and choose from the display. The atmosphere and the people are sweet. Realistically sweet. They don't go out of their way to kiss your behind. I hope mindy tries Alpha again with an open mind and a less snooty attitude. Pros: the pastries, unique, fast Cons: parking, hours, nothing more

Kids Delight! 7/28/2002

My son and I go every Saturday Morning to get one of their incredible weiner rolls, its a family tradition that makes us look forward to the weekend. Mom likes the chocolate croissants so the whole family wins. Pros: Quality Products, Fresh, easy in and out more

One and Only 7/24/2002

I drive 30 minutes just to buy some pieces of cake. As Alpha Bakery has a variety of baked goods and all look fabulous and taste good, I can't decide what to have! I am sure that Alpha Bakery takes up the style of a bakery in Japan, which offers the best cake in the world. Well, tiramisu is my favorite, and if you haven't tried it yet, you should! It's fabulous. Pros: high quality Cons: pricy more

Yummy!!! 5/29/2002

If you're in the mood for a great fresh sandwich or skipping lunch and going straight to the dessert, this is the bakery for you. The bread is awesome and very fresh and tasty. The brownies are light and chocolately. The have everything from crossaints to pies. The prices are very reasonable. We just moved here and have been back five or six times already. They are conveniently located in the Bellvue area. A-Plus review. more
