alamo draft house needs to clarify what they offer 11/20/2011

I have been going to the Drafthouse locations since they opened. And i have been in Austin a lot longer than they have and was glad to see such an establishment. We have always had a wonderful time there,......as singles.....as adults...and even with kiddos. UNTIL TODAY. My husband and I took our three daughters (3 year old twins and a four year old) to see Puss 'n Boots. We went to the 3:55 movie......kids movie times. And we were kicked out because, apparently. our daughters were too excited. This is a Disney kids movie. Maybe the Alamo should think of adult times and kid times, but to kick us out of an afternoon movie......with no refund or apologies was simply appalling. Believe me, the network of "mother of multiples" reaches far.....and, no longer, will the Alamo be a have on our list. not to mention that the last time I was there with a friend, our waiter asked us not house our phones to illuminate the menus. He admitted that the light was too dim to read by, but no phones are allowed. We were just using them as a flashlight. Whatever.....obviously, this is no longer a cool Austin creation. We will NOT BE THERE AGAIN. AND JUST THINK, our tickets alone are over $50, with a family so large. Cannot wait to spread the news about our shabby treatment. Would rather contact the company directly.....but just like any other huge company today.......YOU CANNOT CONTACT THEM. What a shame, I used to think of the Alamo Drafthouse as such a cool Austin institution...sorta like Esther's Follies. nomore. more

FUN - By why is service so BAD?? 8/29/2010

They have a TON of waiters running around, getting drink orders back to you quickly, By why does the food have to take soo long to get? A pimento sandwich? 5 mins max. I will go back becasue they are the only game in town. But I think I will not plan on eating there anymore. Plus when the lights go on the cockroaches scatter. LITERALLY. I hear Flix Brewhouse is opening in Round Rock soon, They might steal my Alamo loyality ( + 10 bucks a ticket !! ) more

the only place to see a film 11/18/2009

i love this place! the crowd is there for the movie or show and they make sure of it. if you talk or text, they will kick your ass out and that is lovely. service and food is always good. they should have one in every town in the nation. you can tell they care about the experience and do everything they can to enhance it. REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!! Pros: all around awesomeness Cons: can't think of any! more

Good Food and Great Experience! 8/20/2008

Great place to watch movies and have dinner! The Porky's pizza is the best and so are the hot wings. If you're going opening night, get there at least an hour early, the lines can be long and you want to get great seats. Pros: food, movie previews, atmosphere, Music Mondays and Weird Wednesday Cons: the space between your seats and the table are a little far apart, long lines, front row seats are horrible more

Best movie experience anywhere! 12/13/2007

I love all the Alamos but this is my favorite. I like how it's roomy and has a bar at the front. The trailers are a great and entertaining freebie. The service is great and parking is always available. I am giving it four stars because the food could be better. more

Why aren't ALL movie theaters like this one? 1/24/2007

Nothing better than settling in for a good movie and good food and drinks! I love how they will actually remove noisy people from the theater! Like the trailer before the movie says "We'll toss ya out!". Just priceless! The food is great, and the beer and wine selection is good but could use expanding. Buying tickets online is always easy and it's even easier to get the tickets at "will call". Their email newsletter is good too. I'll never go to Tinsel town again! Why mess with snacks like popcorn when you can get something WAY better for almost the same money?!?! Pros: Large selection of good food, cold beer, and movies. Easy online ticket buying and pickup. Cons: Service is rather slow most nights. Time to add some waitstaff or something. more

Is there anything better?? 12/26/2006

Good food, beer and a movie... can't go wrong there. The only two reasons I give this place a 7 instead of a 10 is because I like the Lakecreek location better in terms of food and service. Neither is bad here, it's just a lot better at Lakecreek. Still, I would rather go here than any of the other regular theatres in town. Pros: Food, Beer, Wine, Comfort Cons: Parking, Wait time, Shows often sold out more

Horrible service! DO NOT GO TO THIS DRAFTHOUSE 7/30/2006

I emplore you, please do not use this Drafthouse. The other Alamo Drafthouses in town are just fine (especially the Village, that's a great one), but this one has some of the worst service and servicepeople in the entire city. I've been going to the Drafthouses for over 10 years now, and have never experienced the low-level of service that the Lake Creek location provided. Our waiter was very loud during a quiet movie (kept calling 'last call' MUCH louder than he needed to around the entire theater), and he charged 17% gratuity for us KNOWING THE PEOPLE next to us - said we were a party of 6! When we questioned the waiter about it, he proceeded to get frustrated with us (for no apparent reason...we were not being rude at that point) and blurted out, "Well, fine... if you don't want to tip..." turned his back on us and walked away. The management wasn't much better, considering that they're 'only there to enforce the policy, not to change it'. They refused to take the gratuity off the bill, and then laughed at us as we stormed out the door. Please make use of the other, non-commericalized Drafthouses in Austin. This one deserves to have its staff wiped clean and a new roster hired. Until that happens, I'm NEVER going back. Pros: Part of the Drafthouse chain. Typically good food and service Cons: This particular Drafthouse has the worst service of all! more

Best Place for a Afternoon 1/31/2006

I love this place. It's a movie theater and restrant. You don't have to go to two places for a afternoon out. The staff is great. Fun place. Kathy Q Pros: you are surved food, prices are not bad Cons: crowded , parking hard to find more

"Atmosphere" & "Comfort" 4/29/2003

I guess these two things depend on your perspective, but if you like beer and you like Austin-esque venues, this is the theatre for you. While the seating is not the Metropolitan, the superb conscessions and total-movie-experience far outweigh the slight blemish. Pros: beer, online tickets, real buttered popcorn Cons: seating more

Food and Drink...oh my! 2/11/2003

No better way to watch a movie- Dinner and a Movie! I love Alamo downtown and I really think the picture and sound.....and parking at the Alamo North is much better! more

10/10 12/27/2002

This theater is great, I cannot think of going to another one. more

Very cool! 11/8/2002

I love this place! The first time I ever went was to watch Goldmember with some friends. I'm not sure if it was the movie or the alcohol, but the end effect was a brilliant movie. The fact that they serve alcohol certainly tips the scales. The fact that their movie choices are great blows the competition away. more

The most awesome movie theatre! 10/7/2002

The Alamo North theatre was a very unique experience and I loved it! The staff was great and the menu is awesome. It's a great family theatre or date theatre! Pros: unique, friendly staff, awsome menue Cons: uncomfortable chairs, old-fashioned chairs more

Welcome to Austin 8/25/2002

When we moved to Austin 3 months ago, we were told that the city had lots of off-beat charm. This theater has convinced us that is true. Alamo has great old movie-house atmosphere, and cold drinks and hot food are delivered right to your seat. Bliss. The only difference I would like to see is to be able to lift the seat dividers so my honey and I could snuggle more :-) more

The Alamo has saved us! 6/6/2002

The Alamo Drafthouse North has saved us NW Austinites from the depths of mainstream movie-going hell. Unlike the one downtown, I've actually been able to find parking in time to get my tickets AND find a good seat. Their food is delicious, the Sangrias are fab, and the staff is very courteous. The Alamo Drafthouse North is by far my favorite cinema in Austin! Pros: great atmosphere, good parking, good movie selection more
