best sushi I have ever had 5/27/2009

It was well worth searching out this restaurant . We just came back from SFC and I had looked up the best sushi and Akiko' s kept coming up. One of the reviews said they had a hard time finding the door ( and so did I ) but it was I am so glad we found it. The sushi was very fresh and I can't wait to go back. Pros: very fresh and very nice staff Cons: it was a very small place more

Exceptional, phenomenal, and awesome sushi. Beyond Highly Recommended, will return repeatedly 9/19/2007

I really enjoyed eating here. I would eat here every night if I could. The price was excellent for the quality of the sushi. I ate here twice in two days and each time at the sushi bar. The older chef behind the bar did a incredible job of adding delicious flavor to every roll, and at the same time entertaining. It was fun to watch him make all the sauces by hand for each order. I had the Volcano, Firecracker, Dynamite, Caterpillar, and Philadelphia rolls during the times I visited and all were the most tasty I have every had. The wait staff were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend if you haven't had tried this place you should. Pros: Favor put into every bite was great Cons: couldn't find a one more

I love this Restaurant! 5/15/2007

The Udon is delicious! My favorite is the combination Udon with Fish and Chicken. My next favorite is the Unagi Temaki hand roll and then the Dragon Roll (Eel and Shrimp in Deep Fried Goodness). The only problem with this place is not having enough room to try everything. I have sampled the teriyaki and the tempura off other plates and found them to be tasty. I love their sushi chef. He looks over his Sushi Bar, to make sure what you are eating is up to snuff. The staff is friendly, the food is great, the food is always fresh, and the atmosphere hovers between trendy and relaxed. Pros: Great Food, Service, Location Cons: ...? not really more

nice surprise 8/18/2006

This is a great Sushi place for lunch if you're in the financial district. They have a few great special rolls that I will definitely go back again for. the firecracker roll and volcano roll were very good. Nice friendly atmosphere and service. Our servers name was Angel and he was great. Pros: nice food and service Cons: small but perfect for a quick lunch more

Nice place for Sushi 7/9/2006

We ate here on recommendation from our concierge. We eat Japanese food on a regular basis and found this restaurant to be a pleasant place for some sushi. Food was fresh, attractively presented. Service was very good - prompt, pleasant, non-obtrusive. Not ""knock your socks off"" but a very acceptable place to enjoy a meal. Pros: Excellent service, nice ambiance, good food Cons: would have liked to receive sushi before entree but no biggie. more

this place is TERRIBLE 3/27/2006

i dont know if i went on an off day... but my coworkers and i had lunch here yesterday and it was the absolute WORST sushi ive ever had. my tekka-maki was nearly white (not red) and had a lovely irridescent sheen to it. my friend ordered the veggie roll and instead of tamago they served it with imitation crab meat (he ordered the VEGGIE roll!). the hamachi was mushy and foul smelling. everything was less than fresh, even the wasabi was crusty looking. we paid $93 for THREE of us and left hungry. oddly ive been to this restaurant recently and it was not NEARLY this bad. i wonder if they left the fish out over the weekend. needless to say, i was sick this morning and there is no doubt in my mind that it was from the sushi. Pros: easy seating Cons: everything else more

great sushi 10/18/2005

The sushi is good and fresh. Very interesting decour. There is an additional 10% fee added to bills to go. Food is a bit pricey. Pros: ambience, sushi Cons: price more

Best sushi in the financial district! 9/19/2005

I've been going here for years, and still can't get enough of their Akiko's Roll (tempura shrimp) and asparagus hand rolls. I recommend them highly! If you're on the go, they'll even let you call in your order and you can pick it up and bring back to the office if need be! Wonderfully fresh fish and ingredients all week long. I could gush more, but I'll leave it at that. more

Nice for a quick lunch 3/6/2005

I visited this place based on the other reviews and they were pretty much right on. Very nice people, great service and good deals. I had the 4pc Spicy Tuna, 2pc Salmon & 2pc Eel with Miso Soup for $8. The food was great, although the eel was just ok. The lunch included hot tea and a nice little dish of orange slices at the end of the meal to freshen up. Overall it was a nice visit and I would definatly visit again. One note, its not very big about 3-5 tables, but it wasn't too crowded when I was there. Pros: Great service, Great Sushi, Good prices Cons: Small place more

Try it 9/13/2003

This place is fairly small and crowded. However, the spicy salmon with hamachi appatizer is really good. I do not recommand the unagi however, the rolls are good. The service is really good the owner of the restaurant is very friendly. Cons: space more

Best we've ever had. 8/9/2003

My wife, 10 year old daughter and I were delighted with the freshness and wonderful flavors prepared by Joe and Mary. This is a real bargain. Try Saturday nights. It's very quiet, and you'll get lots of personal attention. Let Joe choose the sushi/sashimi for you. You can't go wrong. Pros: Very fresh, Very reasonable, Talented chef more

i just love this place 6/2/2003

One of the best sushi restaurants in SF, yet without long lines, high prices or screaming sakebombers. Very nice staff - say ""hey"" to Joe the sushi chef. more
