Aj's Sports Pub & Grill

We went to Aj's (formerly Mr. Pickwicks) for St. Pattys day dinner. They had a limited menu in place for the day. We arrived at about 7pm the dinning room was nearly emtpy. It took 10 minutes for a man to ask us what we wanted. He was not dressed like a waiter, so I was suprised when he approached. We ordered some menus to start (probably a good idea to have them out). A little while later I ordered the Irish Stew and my wife ordered the Corned beef. We both ordered a guiness. After a small wait I was served a plastic plate with luke-warm stew surrounding a pile of dried out rice. If you need a decent recipe for stew please let me know. I have a good one. What they served was not appropriate. It helps if a stew is served hot. My wife was served corned beef with cabbage and a potato. The corned beef was ok as was the cabbage. Its a shame that no mustard or sauce was offered as is traditional with corned beef. The potato however belonged in a rock garden. About halfway through our meals we recieved the guiness. I honestly don't think that $40 for two glasses of beer and two VERY small plates of VERY ORDINARY food is good value. I hope they can do better in the future otherwise I fear for the business in this very difficult market. Pros: Decent Beer on tap Cons: Everything else more

this one of the few bar that has wifi, I love it! cool beer on a hot day, and sending email to my boss at the same time-- priceless. I had the fish and chips, it was very very good. I will go again this weekend just to see how is the night life part of AJ's. more

This place has got the best burgers in town... with an entertaining sports theme menu. Make sure to have the Canseco burger or the Pete Rose Turkey burger. Both are great! And the bread pudding is to die for. The owner told us he got the recipe from a little place in the French Quarter in New Orleans. We were there on Karaoke night (Thursday & Friday). Very entertaining to say the least. We also saw postings for the bands AJ's has every Saturday night. The service is top notch and the bartender makes a mean Long Island Iced Tea. 16 beers on tap as well. Some are not easy to find around the bay area. For example: Smithwicks Ale from Great Britain and Black Diamond Amber Ale brewed right in Concord. Good place to hang out and watch a game too. AJ's has 10 flat screen televisions located in all the rooms. AJ even made the back room feel like an entertainment room you might have in your home... easy chairs, couch, pool table, music piped in. The place is filled with sports pictures and banners, friendly people and good vibes. We're definitely going back!
