bad bad bad people 1/3/2009

I had a horrible time with this company. I was misled and lied to. Transmission repair is bad enough by itself but when you couple that with lies and unethical business practices it is even worse. I was taken advantage of by this company and as a woman I would recommend all the other women in Knoxville to avoid Advance Transmission at all costs! Take your car some other place to have it worked on. Don't fall for the ""free"" transmission inspection. It's free to tear apart your transmission but the part they don't tell you is it will cost an arm and a leg to put the darn thing back together if you tell them not to repair it. I do not believe in running a business with lies and tricks. I will never return to this company and I have told everyone I know not to go there. Cons: lies, tricks more

I got taken, don't go there, bad business practices 11/6/2008

Do not take your car to Advanced Transmissions. They'll take you just like they took me! I was shocked at their business ethics and practices. Offering FREE checks and inspections is just a trick to get you to their doorstep. Under no circumstances should you leave your vehicle with these people. Just as Mr. phelp's experience I saw in a previous review, they offered me a free inspection also. I thought great, nice thing to offer. I left my car and then when I was called in the next morning to get my repair estimate I couldn't believe that my transmission was removed from my vehicle and in peices in the back room on a table. No one ever got my permission to take the transmission out of my car, let alone tear it into a thousand peices! Apparently from what i hear now, this is common practice for these folks. I was livid! They did this and acted as if they did me a favor by stating they could save me so much money if I let them do the work there verses going to a dealership. I took my transmission in peices , along with my car away from that place on a tow truck and had it repaired at a professional, trustworthy shop. Wrong is wrong! And Advanced Transmission is wrong for doing this not only to me , but to all the others they have done this to also. I would stay as far away from this place as i could! If you hear there name...RUN! RUN away as fast as you can and whatever you do , don't leave your car with them or it will wind up in a million little peices just like mine and mr. phelps. STAY AWAY!!!! Cons: unethical business practices, remove transmission from your car without permission more

Response to poor review 10/13/2008

Not really a review but more of a response to a previous review by GeorgePhelps of my Transmission Shop (Advanced Transmission and Automtive).\r \r Seeing such a scathing review of a place I've tried to make an example of how the automotive business should be run shocked me. I went back through our records for the entire year trying to find this customer or even a job where we've charged such a price. I found neither the customer or any job coming close to that amount.\r \r I purchased this shop as an outsider in the automotive business. I bought it because I was tired of people being ripped off by the automotive repair industry and felt I could make a difference. And I really feel that we have. However, being an outsider and doing things so totally different than the established shops that have been doing business the same way for so long, we've obviously upset some people. No one liked our extended warranties (almost 3 times as long as others for no additional cost). No one likes that we don't charge to R&R (remove and reinstall) units at no charge. We do it anyway because I think it's the right thing to do. Many of the reviews you read (not just of our shop) are from other shop owners, managers and employees who are actually paid on company time to trash the other shops. It's a very childish group of people and in doing so, makes it hard for all of us to trust some of the reviews.\r \r I tell everyone to stick with anyone they trust and make sure to ask around for a shops reputation. Speaking to another person about a business' integrity always helps find the good ones. I run my business knowing that we're all the same...all have bills...all struggling from time to time. Help others when you can and do the right things in life. We're only here for a short period.\r \r And to GeorgePhelps...if you were ever truly a customer of mine, please provide me with your work order tracking number. Feel free to post it here if you have one :) more

Avoid Advanced Transmission on Western Ave 10/5/2008

If you know nothing about transmissions you will be overcharged and they will make you think their business practices and prices are normal. BEWARE!!\r \r I asked for a suggestion for what it might cost upfront and was told ""All cars are different. We can do a 'free' diagnosis"" umm OK. I was later brought in for the diagnosis to see my transmission in a thousand pieces spread across a table. I was then taken up front and showed, allegedly, what a dealer would charge. Then he showed me what his charge would be and it was less but it was an insane amount of money: $3600 + tax! I was in shock and didn't know WHAT to do. I felt like I was being hijacked and my car was being held ransom. I didn't feel like I had a choice. I begrudgenly left it there and went home. After some checking around with his competitors and checking what the costs of the parts would be I found out that he was overcharging me by at least a THOUSAND DOLLARS. When I called back to have him halt working on it he basically blew me off and told me he would call me back...he NEVER did. By the time I got to actually talk with him again it was too late. The car was near completion and I my nerves were a total wreck.\r \r NEVER EVER take you vehicle to these people. You will be severely overcharged and you will regret it. Cons: you will be robbed more
