Last year I was funded 250 by the police department for "false alarm reduction. My system keeps gioing off for no reason still today. Ackerman stated that they could send out a tech for 79 dollars an hour. That's ridiculous. Why should I have to pay for a faulty system? more

Beware of Contracts!!!!! 4/3/2013

As with many, I too bought into the contractual obligation of a decent starting price for alarm monitoring. However as a loyal customer my reward has been consistent price increases over the years. The caveat is that like many others I had forgotten all about the auto renewal clause in the contract so when I finally decided that a change was long overdue, I find myself roped into a remaining seven month period where I am obligated to Ackerman. I will not complain about the service as that is not an issue. The fact remains that it is no longer a value against the competition and the contract obligations block the ability to make a change for the better. If I could do it over again, I would have cancelled after the first year in the 60 day window of opportunity and gone to a company without a contract. I would strongly advise against signing on with any alarm company requiring a contract of any sort. If you do choose Ackerman, be very careful to read the terms and be ready to act in the short time that you have to make changes. My overall advice would be to avoid them altogether so that you do not have to worry about contracts. Once my term is up, bye bye Ackerman. more

Nothing but Aggravation 2/22/2013

We've been a customer for two years. If we weren't moving, we would cancel today, but don't want to go thru the hassle of getting another alarm company for 2 months. My impression is that this company is under-funded and has inadequate resources to deal with its customers. Calling the 888 number with a problem, I'm left on hold on hold on hold to be told no techs are available for days to fix the problem. I expect sooner or later someone will have a real crisis, they won't respond and then they'll be sued for millions and put out of business. I think they'll richly deserve it. more

Do Not Switch to Ackerman 12/5/2012

After 20 years of service with ADT Security, due to horrible customer service, in July 2012, I decided to switch my home security service to Ackerman Security. Bad idea!!! To date; I've had over 20 false alarms despite Ackerman's technicians "fixing" the problem. On Friday, 11/30, Ackerman was at my home again after several false alarms (even when the system wasn't armed). At 1:50 a.m. on 12/5, my doorbell rang and there were several officers outside my home explaining that they were responding to a duress call from my security system. This isn't the first time that this has happened and not only does this disrupts my sleep but it is unfair to the police department who has already warned me that my home will soon be placed on a "do not respond" list. After calling Ackerman, I was asked "would you like for us to call you first when receiving a duress indicator?" My response was "I want you to fix the problem." What is the sense of having a security system when it's working? I'm so disappointed with Ackerman and I'm locked into a 2 year commitment that I wasn't aware of. more

This morning was great!! Today was my initial appointment and JW Bampton represented Ackerman Security phenomenally. He was prompt, professional, knowledgeable and personable. He explained the system and options that I hadn't heard of but surely is the best option(s) for me. I feel safer already and my system won't be installed until Tuesday. ??Thank you Ackerman Security! more

The worst Security company to do business with 8/16/2012

By law you can not renew a contract without a signature. I cancelled with them after one year and they did the same to me and hit me with a cancellation fee of $285.50, Wow and .50 cents what a kick in the face. If Ackerman thinks they're going to get it they're barking up the the wrong tree. For their insults and unprofessionalism I'll be getting my lawyer on them, and we will see who gets the last laugh. more

Typical customer unfriendly corporation 6/15/2012

Let me say that initially all was good with Ackerman. They are more than eager to get your business. After signing on with them, I decided to get the wireless camera installed. Not only is the camera sub par, the salesman told me that the camera records locally. I find out that this was a flat out lie. Also, the technician had no knowledge of how the camera works. He installed it in a place where anyone could come by and knock it down. After speaking with the camera manufacturer, I realized that this camera tries to upload video. So it slows down your network considerably and the lag to upload video is more than enough time to disable or simply unplug it and no video is ever uploaded. After all this, they refused to give me a refund for the camera (even a day after it was installed). I wrote everyone in the company. I didn't even want the refund for the service visit, only the overpriced equipment that didn't work as advertised. They are the worst when it comes to customer service when money has to be refunded. I will never use Ackerman or any company that has a no return policy like this. Be aware. Their "local" company plug is BS. They are simply a typical corporation that uses any tactic to get your money. more

Deceptive 5/4/2012

Notice all the headings like... BRIAN for Ackerman was awesome! These are from employee's under a "suggestion" from management if they want to keep their jobs. How many honest reviews have you read on the internet that mentions people by name. Makes you wonder why they need the good press... Ignore the reviews that mentions peoples names, and you are left with, well, a bunch of bad reviews. Beware of Ackerman Security. Although they do monitor well, they will try and sell you add-ons at very high prices. For instance, a panel that you can get over the internet for $95.00 they will chard $310, and then $170 per hour to install. Their "protection plan" is a joke. Check the fine print.. It does not cover wires or sensors... You wont find that out until you need it. Also want to leave them? You cant because your contract will autorenew, making leaving a costly experience. Check out their competitors, they dont require contracts and charge a lot less. more

I am sincerely appreciative for the excellent work performed by Ackerman’s technician, Don. Don was professional, informative, and has a wonderful sense of humor. It was a pleasure seeing someone execute their job with such care. I love the new system I had installed! In addition, Michael, the Security Representative, was also a pleasure to work with and his expertise kept the ball rolling. From what I can tell, the Ackerman staff members present a business model of courtesy and professionalism that is rare in the current business arena. more
