Fave place in Tribeca 3/17/2010

My boyfriend and I stumbled in here without reservations a while back not really knowing what it was other than Italian food. We called before we left the apartment to see if we needed reservations and the guy kind of just sighed and said, ""come in, we'll seat you."" And when we got there I saw why - it's just the type of place you should make reservations for even if it's not necessarily going to be packed. They invited us to have a drink at the bar while we waited and when we turned to the bar, they redirected us to sit down and they served us instead - nice touch. The waiter also brought us chunks of fresh parmesan out of their giant cheese wheel - delicious! So we were seated shortly after and then the real experience began. There were flambes going on all around us with fish and dessert which kept it interesting and the waiter was a character (but in a good way) although he was Albanian and not Italian but had zero effect on anything, just was surprised. I ordered the ravioli and I think I got the wrong dish since there was also a ravioli special that night but no big deal since it was good. We did the flambe dessert and I recommend that if it's still on the menu. They wheel out this cart and tell you what they're doing as they do it and then ""flames!"" and then more ingredients and then more ""flames!"" so it was fun. We ended up being there for like 2 hours and I loved it. It was an expensive evening with wine before, a bottle during and dessert and grappa, but I'd recommend doing exactly that. So great! Pros: Experience, atmosphere, food, wait staff Cons: decor is kinda cheesy, expensive but worth it more

Dynamite 6/19/2006

Drove in all the way from Long Island. The decor is OK but the food is absolutely awesome. Do not go here if you are cheap or expect to spend less than $150 for dinner for two. The homemade Grapa tasted like gasoline but I guess some people like that. Otherwise, one of the best Italian restaurants around. Pros: food is awesome Cons: pricey more

WoW The best food I ever had 5/8/2006

You have to try it to believe it. The decor, food, attention, wine, and presentation makes this restaurant a MUST. more

BEST NYC RESTAURANT!! 4/18/2006

I've been to Nobu, Le Bernardin, Jean Georges, Daniel, Spice Market and a hundred other restaurants in NYC. This restaurant is the best. High end. Sophisticated. Wonderful food - they will peel your lobster for you so you don't have to lift a finger. World Class wine. And the waiters are the best I have ever seen. They will either do 'flawlessly senior and invisible' or 'movie-star charismatic entertainment, Tony Soprano style', whatever you want. It really should be Zagat No 1. Pros: Best NYC restaurant Cons: None, Flawless more

BEST IN CITY 1/16/2006

The only negative reviews about this restaurant are from cheap people. If you want cheap food dont go here. But, if you wish to dine nicely, you will be forever hooked with this place. Best in city. Pros: Excellent food, Excellent staff, Excellent ambiance Cons: cheap people complain more

TriBeCa Treat! 1/20/2005

Fantastic atmosphere, delicious Northern Italian cuisine, and the homemade grappa is ""perfecto"". Wait staff make for a memorable experience (you've got to hear them sing ""HAPPY BIRTHDAY!""). All in all a wonderful -- albeit pricey -- experience. And the pannetones at Christmastime add the perfect ""final touch"". WARNING -- it can get to be a bit noisy, especially with the vaulted ceiling. Pros: ambience, wait staff, specialties Cons: , sometimes noisy more

Hiding prices 5/19/2003

Food excellent but very expensive. The most disturbing part is how they try to hide the prices and try to take advantage of you. They first present the menu verbally hoping that you will not request menus and then provide a menu on request with prices penciled in. When its time for dessert, they don't provide dessert menus and once again present it verbally. On the bill, dessert prices came on the bill as only a total lump sum. I needed to ask them to break it down. The desserts were very good and the price equally impressive. A Strawberry flambe for 2 is $36. Tirami Su is $10 each. Regular coffee is approximately $4. more

Acappella Please! 2/26/2003

By far THE best Itlaian food in Manhatten. It's a special restaurant and the perfect date place. It's also great with family and friends. They serve you app's before you even order so beware and pace yourself. Love the Sea bass with a light caper and tomate sauce! Very nice bar and the most beautiful decor. Very dim and sexy! Can't wait to go back. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Romantic more

Fun and Romantic 2/26/2003

If you enjoy fine dining and good Italian food and want to impress a girl, bring her here. I looked in Zagat for something in Tribeca and boldly took a stab at this place. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The extemely friendly staff waited on us hand and foot (they don't even give you a menu they read it to you). The portabello mushroom apatizer was amazing, the pasta dishes were quite delectable and I strongly recommend the banna flambe desert (cooked right at your table). Overall it was a great time and the food wasn't the best italian I've had, but it's good enough to keep coming back. For 2 people with drinks, appatizer, entree and desert it was $350.00 (Includes Tip) Pros: Fun, Romantic, Great Service Cons: Expensive more

All show, no substance 2/16/2003

Vistied with a party of six on a Sat night. Place is lovely to look at, nice bar, high ceilings. We sat down and immediately waiters danced around us with niblets of cheese, zucchini and other so-so goodies, which was a nice touch. However the rest of the evening was marred by inconsistent dishes and one obnoxious waiter. When grilled meats are pepared tableside the place fills with so much smoke you need a gas mask. Again, all show. Wine list is overpriced with only a few bottles under $100. Basically this place is a wanna-be Il Mulino and falls woefully short. Go to Il Giglio one block south on Warren for a better experience. Pros: Nice space Cons: Smoky dining room, Rude waiter, So-so food for $$$$ more

Graaaaaaaaaaapaaaaa 12/23/2002

Excellent food - the rack of lamb is to die for. Pros: Food, Preparation Cons: Very expensive more

OUTSTANDING! 11/28/2002

Absaolutly outstanding. You are bombarded with a team of great service. From bow-tied and jacketed host to impecible linguistic Captain to an unbelievable wait staff. Great seating, had a six pm reservation. We were the first table in the joint. It was half filled at eight. Only thing on the menu written in English were the descriptions of the entrees, so brush up on your basic Italian(or bring Italian girlfriend). Lots of Veal and Chicken selections. Solid pastas and plenty of great sounding specials. The food was the best I hav had in a long time. I highly recomend it. Servers are very approachable and helpful. Ask for the best seat in the house when making reservation or ask the table in far corner. You can apprietiate the great room best. Business/Business Casual. Very Romantic. Pros: service, food, romantic Cons: expensive, small bar, menu in Italian more

Best Italian outside of Italy 11/12/2002

The title of the review says it all. Expensive but worth it. Off menu stuff and specials are amazing. My favorite restaurant. more

THE BEST 11/5/2002

I am very upset that this place doesn't have the highest rating. Acappella is definitely the best Italian restaurant out there. The only people that write bad review about Acappella is the cheap people who dont appreciate good food and service but look at the check. It is a lively place (Thank God, that's all this city needs, another blah-blah, boring restaurant). If you want to spend a night to remember go to Acappella.......Ciao Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

Best Tuscany Italian in NYC!!! 10/20/2002

Everything was excellent. The food is the best Tuscany in NYC. The ambience is splendid. It works for either high powered business meeting or a romantic evening. The service was superb. I could not ask for better. The value is excellent. The food was so tasty for the money. The overall experience was amazing, I cannot say enough good things about Acappella. Pros: Intimate, Beautiful, Tasty more

absolutely great 9/2/2002

the food and service was outstanding. i felt that the staff was every bit as good as the staff at le bernadin. would definitely go again. more

Overrated 5/29/2002

Not a bad place, but overpriced. The service was REALLY slow. Once they came to the table, they were helpful, but you rarely saw a waiter. The food was decent, but nothing to rave about and certainly not authentically italian. My veal chop was smothered in a brown gravy that tasted like it was straight from the jar. The zabaglione was the one saving grace...it was superb. Pros: Dessert Cons: Pricey, Slow service more
