Well Worth the Visit 3/16/2006

Great location, great selection, and great prices. Located just northwest of Union Square, this is a great place to go if you’re looking for not just mainstream pop/rock, but also showtunes, classical, and folk, usually ranging in price from $5-8 for single-disc albums. If you’ve got a little bit of time on your hands, you might also be worth your while to browse through the stacks of “bargain” CDs, which are usually $1-3. The only drawback of this otherwise fabulous store is the lack of space, so make sure you’re not in a claustrophobic mood when you go shopping. more

great used music stop 9/7/2005

I love stopping by Academy because, even though it is small and often crowded and hard to browse with all the other people, I usually find something I want for 5 or 6 or 7 bucks. They have a wide variety of genres, but I only look at the rock section, which spans one wall. I recently realized that they have DVD's a little further back, and there are some good deals on that shelf too. I recommend checking it out no matter what your tastes are to see if it is a place worth coming back to once in a while to see what new stuff has come in. They buy CD's too, but not for much money. more

Used record store for all ears 8/21/2005

This Union Square music shop is where it's at for used music of all genres. Academy Records may be a small store but it's jam packed with jazz, classical, rock and pop music. They also have used box sets, videos and DVDs. Prices are fair but don't overlook the bargain bin on the way in, you never know what you'll find. I've found the store to be picked over every once in a while. Cd's are located high and low so don't forget the deodorant. more
