A & E Tax Svc

Abysmal. Irresponsible. Disorganized. Unapologetic. Possibly senile. And no, emillerpdx, sorry but you've got it wrong. An abrasive demeanor doesn't bother me. Repeated loss of my sensitive personal information and failure to deliver on promises does. The only reason I didn't file a complaint with the BBB is that I wanted to wash my hands of the whole debacle. Go ANYWHERE else. more

We have used A&E for two years. Will not be using them again. Both years our CTP was not responsive -- would disappear until the day before taxes were due, and not respond to numerous emails or phone calls. This year, at 9pm the night before our taxes were due, we get a message from Mary, who tells us that she needs another two weeks. When I called and asked why they didn't notify us earlier, or respond to any of our numerous voicemails or emails, she started yelling at me, telling me she hadn't slept more than a few hours for the past week and our taxes were just going to have to be late. I think it's inexcusable to leave a client hanging like that and then tell them only the night before a deadline that they are unable to deliver on their promise. It's not like Mary only had a few more hours of work and just missed the filing deadline. She asked for two more weeks, which means she wasn't even close to getting our taxes done, yet literally waited until the very last minute to let us know. If you want to turn all of your private information over to someone who will not answer your phone calls or emails, and then not even get things done in the end, sure go with A&E. If you actually want to know what is going on and get your taxes done on time, I would look elsewhere. more

We have gone to A&E for years for both our corporate books and our personal returns. I think people might be misunderstanding Michael's sense of humor. He can be gruff or blunt, but personally I kind of want to have a no-nonsense interaction with the person handling my taxes. And they've always been responsive when I've called or emailed. I'm only knocking off a star because occasionally I have to remind them about something that needs to get done. As for the negative reviews on this site, here's my theory. When I've done something wrong in Quickbooks or misunderstand a tax or accounting rule, Michael will say flat-out ""Hey. Knock it off."" Which might rub other people the wrong way. So I wonder how many artists (not a group known for fastidious record-keeping) react poorly when someone at A&E gives them a candid assessment of their tax and accounting situation... more

They care about artists like Exxon cares about the environment. This place is a joke. Avoid Michael at all costs...no need to toss money to the dregs of humanity. Cons: Rude, uncaring, unprofessional, terrible customer service more

I work with a lot of CPAs for work and in my experience with this office a couple of times over the past two years, I have to say they are quite possibly the rudest and most unfriendly office in all of Portland. Mary and Michael both are unwilling to do anything above and beyond simply filing a return for their clients. more
