Editorial

  • The Scene
The name sounds quaint, the inside looks small and quaint, but A Pleasant Present is everything but quaint. Specializing in campy, pop-culture-obsessed items--and catering to a loyal gay clientele--the store gives an edge to the typically bland gift shop. The back wall acts as your traditional Hallmark, with cards for every occasion, but the floor is where the good stuff is. Browse through boxing-nun puppets ($9.95), "Wizard of Oz" wiggle figurines ($29.95), superhero Pez dispensers ($1.39) and more.

    Not What You Think
While APP takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to gift-selling, it's not just another Spencer's Gifts. Amid the flair, you'll find quality candles, Zippos, key chains, and even Beanie Babies.

    The Annex
For any seasonal needs, head across the street to A Pleasant Present Too. There you'll find everything you need for whatever holiday is coming up. While APP maintains the bulk of its merchandise year-round, APP Too has, among other items, ornaments and menorahs in the winter, shamrocks and Easter eggs in the spring, USA regalia in the summer, and pumpkins in the fall.
