This place is pretty and played good music last Saturday night. Those are the only good things to say about it. I have never paid so much for drinks before at a mediocre place. I ...

this place is disgusting!!!! 9/11/2006

i agree with previous reviewers in that they have fake lines outside. bouncers make no shame in trying to get people to buy bottles by holding them outside. i went outside to get my sister and the boucner says, " you see this list? you aren't buying bottles so shes not coming in." whats up with that??? this is just a cheap basement someone tried to turn in to a club. the music is ok but the service and mgmt is really bad. the crowd as mixed and ok. the celings are super low and the place is pretty small. Pros: music is ok Cons: everything else more

GREAT TIME!!!!! 8/30/2006

I recently went to 49 Grove for a party. I had a great time as well as my friends. We had bottle service and not one problem with anything, from the service to the bill. The management was extremely nice. I really have never had a better time. The next party I book will def. be at Grove. Thanks Pros: music, drinks, service Cons: Bathroom was a little crowded more

This place is managed by pathetic jokes 8/16/2006

49 Grove is a one of the few places in New York that you go to and wish that you had never been. It is so depressing that places like this exist - awful management who will keep you in line and refuse to acknowledge your existence despite the fact that they are well aware that you are there for a fundraiser happening downstairs. It is the classic case of pathetic men at the door who use this place as their last chance at testosterone-exhibiting of the week before they take the path train back to mom's house in Jersey and fall asleep in front of wifeswap with a mouth half-full of cheetos. In a wierd way, I feel bad enough for the man who manage this bar that I am actually kind of happy that there is still a place for them in the world. Pros: the have a bathroom and running water Cons: the people who work there are still living more

Low Ceilings, Smelly Carpet... 8/12/2006

This place is a total joke. Fake lines (to make themselves seem more 'popular'), expensive drinks, a-hole bouncers... more

JUST TERRIBLE 8/11/2006

We were there for a fundraiser, and had to deal with obnoxious waitstaff (read: jersey bouncers) for an hour. Then, we went downstairs to the bar, where the drinks were overpriced, and there was actually no reason why they didn't let us in - IT WAS EMPTY. Plan to go here if you want a night filled with frustration. The bouncers and doormen here should take cyanide pills. There was a 60 year old guy with a power trip. He had a body like a beanbag. There was a younger guy who thought he was really cool. He was wearing a wallet chain like he was 13 years old. Good work guys. Your bar stinks. more

Avoid at all costs 8/11/2006

Terrible. Just terrible. Read the other reviews. Nothing to recommend this place. One of the 'lounges' I've ever been. more

I CAN'T... 8/11/2006

I can't even begin to tell you how terrible this place is. It's like if you let a bunch of 8th graders run a bar. The service is terrible. The lines are long. The drinks are expensive. There's no reason why this place should exist. Pros: nothing Cons: terrible. more

Dont go here 7/23/2006

I went to this place with a party of 15, They over charged us at the end of the night. They first said bottles were 250 but when the check came they charged us 300 for each bottle. They also added one extra bottle that we never ordered and would not let us leave until we paid the full amount. The vip area sux and is crowded there is no security for vip and everybody would be in your vip area. I would never go to this place agai. Very dark and was kinda like a basement with some couches. DONT EVER GO HERE. THIS PLACE SUX AND IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY BECAUSE THEY WILL RIP U OFF. ALSO SHOTS AT THE BAR WERE $10 EACH. more

The Place to be at Tonight! 7/21/2006

I was at 49 Grove last and I had a blast....! The music was awsome last night! The Manger took care of my crow of 20 people. The bartenders were so good to me. I am going back there tonight with some more people. I Highly Recommended this place... more

Go stand in a fake line somewhere else 3/2/2006

Went this past Friday. The crowd was so-so and the front room was empty, so why the fake nyc line outside? At 2:00am we invited two friends to meet us. They weren't on a list, but there was PLENTY of room. Attempting to be polite, I notified the "doorgirl" that we had friends stopping by. She rudely informed me that entry depended on "how they looked" and "was at HER discretion." After harassing them for 10 mins and refusing their entry saying "I just CAN'T let two guys inside. I just CAN'T do it." they became fed up. Later, my friend who WAS on a list received identical treatment. I can't stand people who work at bars who think they are superior to the paying clientele inside with REAL jobs. Words to the Wanabee-Model Doorgirl: Your power-trip was pathetic. Good luck in the real world, honey! You'll be needing it. Pros: Trendy Cons: Rude staff, overpriced drinks, bad crowd more

Thanks for ruining my birthday 49 grove 2/18/2006

I work for a tv channel and agreed to have my bday party here since the mgmt was interested in starting a relationship with us. As the place filled up- I found out that guys were not let in without a girl. I had one of guy outside & I was told "no guys" "I don't care if he's on the list" "he's not getting in without more girls" "he needs to buy a bottle". I complained to the bouncers and they treated me like I was nothing- they spoke to some of my friends like they were the lowest people on earth. It made me sick & I took my friends and left! So be warned- if you have your party there and think your guest list means that your friends can come in and party with you- you are stongly mistaken. Thanks for ruining my birthday 49 Grove.... Cons: crowded, guys not let in, guest list sucks more

Wasted Potential 2/17/2006

Although this place has a beautiful ambiance, the crowd, the drinks, the service and doorman make the experience highly unacceptable. After prearranging my party I was frustrated and extremely annoyed that the doorman would not let people on my guestlist inside. They were told that they could not allow guys in, even though they were accompanied by 4 girls, without buying additional bottles. If you are not buying a table, do not expect to get in. If you do feel the need to satifsy your curiosity pitch a tent outside at 9pm and wait it out with the b&t tunnel crowd. more

What happened to the HOT doorman?!? 1/13/2006

Over December I visited 49 Grove to take in the "high end" atmosphere and good crowd...but most importantly to come flirt w.that GORGEOUS doorman w. the long dark hair dressed in sheek clothing... I went there last Friday and he wasnt there then Saturday he wasnt there either?! I dunno what happened but he provided a look of elegance and presence....If you read this doorman please let me know where you are now..cause me and my girls only came there for you.. :) ~californiasfinest~ Pros: doorman, good crowd, nice atmosphere Cons: Doorman's gone :( more

Awsome Time! 1/12/2006

Had such a great time! Really cool space, downstairs. Sexy atmosphere with a very good looking crowd. Really helpful staff. My friend made bottle reservations and we had no problems with the door. Great DJ. My friends and I had such a blast and will definitally be coming back. more

Ripoff 12/31/2005

My friends and I reserved a table here for New Years and what a joke. After shelling out $1,300 for a table we were introduced to our waitress who didn't stop back a single time during the evening! The package was to include hors d'ourves throughout the evening which never arrived. Around 2am one of the kitchen staff did manage to provide a plate of stale chips and salsa. The service is horrible and the space is so so. Don't waste your time or your money. Pros: Good DJ Cons: Horrible Service, Coed Bathroom more

Great time, no complaints 12/19/2005

Knew nothing about the place before going, other than the pictures on their website looked great. I actually had been once before when it was Halo but didn't immediately recognize it. I called ahead to reserve a bottle service table for a group of ten friends. No problem at the door when we arrived (11:30/12 on a Saturday), polite and efficient bouncer who immediately set us up with a hostess. They cleared our table quickly and in no time we were on our way. Bottle waitress was really attractive, as were most female employees. Super friendly and down to party as well. The rest of the crowd wasn't trashy, snobby, or overly young/old...well-dressed attractive patrons looking to get sauced and have a good time (and dance). I'd definitely go back for a splurge. I'm not down with star sightings but for people who are, Adrian Grenier was there that night. Pros: Friendly staff, Attractive crowd, Attractive venue Cons: Pricey, Unisex bathrooms more

GREAT spot! 12/4/2005

Overall, just a great night. I had brought some rather important clients from Paris and they loved it. It was a Saturday...which most of the time i don't favor (as far as other clubs) Great looking crowd- great bottle service. Was pleased and will be visiting again. more

Mixed Review... 11/6/2005

I went on a Saturday night...got there around 1am. I liked the atmosphere and I looooooved the music. However, it was WAY too crowded. I couldn't even move. It was HORRIBLE. I had to go into the smokers lounge for air (as odd as that sounds). If you don't like to be pushed and shoved...then you may not want to visit this establishment. WARNING: The female bartender was horrible..and a little rude...and the drinks were totally overpriced. Here's an example of how to order drinks at this place: "I'd like a Grey Goose with a splash of cranberry". Don't ask for a Grey Goose and Cranberry or you'll get jipped. Despite those negatives...it's an overall kewl spot..and I recommend it. Pros: Great Music, Kewl Atmosphere, Nice lounge area Cons: Horrible drinks, Drinks too pricey, Too crowded more
