Downtown discovery 9/12/2007

49 Grove is an upscale but comfortable space that features superior concierge type service and elegant furnishings. It is THE place to hold an event downtown if you put an emphasis on privacy and discretion. My company held a holiday function there last year and we would up booking three events this year because of the attentiveness of the staff (and also because we always have a great time!!!). The menu is varied but consistently yummy and drinks are generous and powerful. Prices are reasonable, especially when considering what you would pay at other bar/lounges for a less quality experience. Bottle service is available, of course. 49 Grove is the place is a wonderful venue when you are a grownup, but still ready to have fun. Pros: Food, drinks, value, friendly staff, FUN atmosphere Cons: Parking nearby is difficult to find more

Classy Joint in West Village 9/12/2007

I don't usually party in the West Village, but my roommate told me that 49 Grove was a good venue. The lounge rivals the big names in the Meatpacking district in terms of style and decor. The crowd was great, more laid-back but still upscale. And you won't have to deal with snobby doormen or bartenders while you're there. All in all, it's a good venue when you want to have a nice night out but not deal with the hassle of the Meatpacking district. Real classy place, I highly recommend! Pros: Style, Convenience Cons: Still can't figure out my way around the West Village!! more

best service and good looking boysss ;) 9/12/2007

i had my birthday party here... this year... all my friends have already come back each at least 2 times... as have i ... sooo much fun they brought out a cake for me and i felt like i was running the place ha... bartenders made sure we were feelin extra good and the bottle service was great... i dont think i stopped dancing the whole entire time... the crowd was good usually theres creeps who try to pass moves on me and my girls when we are out but everything was under control here... and the service was awesome i made friends with one of the girls actually who works there... anything we needed there was someone right there to help... definitely gooooo... the owner walked us all in to make us feel extra special for my bday and the GM was soooo much fun too... all smiles Pros: cute boys and delicious drinks ... great workers Cons: i wish i knew about it last year for my birthday more

intimate, great music, flat screen TVs, mixed crowd NY scene, always a good time 9/12/2007

each time I have been to 49 Grove the service was great and the staff really took care of me and my friends... they actually went out of there way a few times to make sure we were happy and they always looked busy when I'm there... music is a great mix up and the crowd is a good mix as well everyone dressed to impress with their own sense of style... it's in a really nice neighborhood so they keep it clean... It's cool because it seems like a maze almost there's all sorts of different rooms depending on the privacy you want... Never had the food there yet but my friend who had a private batchelorette party said it was really good... there's always someone to answer your questions and the place itself is a comforting spot... i will be there this saturday Pros: excellent staff taking care of me and my friends/great music Cons: not being able to try their food yet... i heard it was yummyyy more

Hung over and fat!! 9/12/2007

Last night I had a party for my BF at 49 Grove. The place rocked. Trust me, have your parties at 49 Grove. I've had parties from 10-300 and these guys are the best in NYC and know how to cater to their clients. The staff made a point of getting us drunk and fat. There was so much food that we took huge doggie bags home and ate cold left overs at 4am and my fridge is full of horsdouvers. Grove was recomended to my by a freind and when I looked at the reviews I was like this place has to be bad. To my surprise from the second I called them to the end of the event these guys rocked. Don't read the reviews below. Check the place out for your self. You will be happy. Pros: Staff, Drinks, Parking, Food, Easy to get to / location Cons: Co-ed bathrooms freaked out a few of the guys, to much food, drinks are to strong more

Great Place For Events 9/12/2007

Last night my girlfriend hosted a surprise birthday for me at 49 Grove. We were about 75 people and everyone said they loved the place and wanted to stay all night.......on a school night too!! I was blown away at what a great job the staff did, how nice the place was and how good the food was. I was even more surprised when I saw the bill at the end of the night and was totaly not ripped off. The catering company made so much extra food that I took in lunch for my entire staff of 35 today and they all loved the food cold. Stay away from the drinks, the bartenders play a game with each other trying to see who can get the guest drunker first. We were trashed with in an hour of the event and my head still hurts 12 hours later. The GM, MOSS, was a total nice guy and Kristen the event planner was a foot away from me all night long making sure that I was having a good time. Only cons were that more of my friends didn't come last night and that my GF did not hire a DJ. Even with and Ipod playing we had a blast. Pros: Price, Service, Food, Staff Cons: Hang Over From Hell!!! more

Spectacular Saturday 8/5/2007

I admit I had reservations about 49 Grove given the reviews below, but I had a very good experience on Saturday, July 14 (and no, I don't work there). The door is a bit intimidating but we had no problems getting through with 2 girls/4 guys, no bottle service, no cover. It may help to get there early, as we were inside by 11:15, when it was fairly slow. Once inside, the decor is about what you'd expect; loungy but with plenty of room to dance once the DJ gets on the 1's and 2's with the latest hip-hop heaters. It gets crowded quickly. The drinks get stronger as you order more of them from the same bartender (surprise surprise), but be wise and stick to shots, which will take some of the hurt off your wallet ($15/mixed, $10/shot, $7/beer, $5/jello shot). The bartenders know what they're doing and are on point, regardless. Overall a good time. Pros: Music, drinks, ample seating, clean bathrooms Cons: Pricey more

avoid for reservations, wost customer service, poor managment, will bump your party for celebs. 8/1/2007

The worst experience I had with a party reservation was with 49grove in Feb.07. I still can?t forget the horrible disappointment now in Aug. 07. I reserved space for a birthday party with guaranteed 25-30 people easily plus other people that were to make short appearances. Everything was great until I got to the bar and found that the party had been bumped off. I didn?t even get a phone call. I had to hear it from the rude bouncer, and didn?t even hear from the management. Talk about embarrassing. Lucky for me The Fat Black Pus*y Cat downtown made arrangements for me at the last minute. I owe the FBPC a debt of gratitude. I would never recommend 49grove to anybody. Also as the other review stated, they place their own positive reviews. This PLACE IS HORRIBLE. Pros: seems appealing Cons: everything from managment to bouncer more

GOOD REVIEWS ARE FORGERIES ? DON?T BELIEVE ANY OF THEM! 6/19/2007

You want the straight dope on 49 Grove? The place is the worst. And that?s being kind. It should aspire to be the worst because that would be an improvement over what it is now. It would actually have to be bumped up a few pegs to reach the lofty levels of worst. But worst is in all probability beyond this place?s reach. Never have I been to a place so atrocious. It began out front with the barbarian doorman, worsened when I nearly broke my neck trying to navigate my way down the pitch black staircase into this basement, was knocked down another notch when they fleeced me for $15 on a watered down drink (the bartender even told me that they couldn?t serve me my brand of vodka because business was bad and the owner hadn?t paid the liquor bill), failed another time when I went to the co-ed bathroom and had these perverts try to watch me on the toilet and I had to see open urinals (the whole place is an open urinal), took another nose dive when at midnight there were only four other people there and they looked like they had social studies class the next day, and ended when I had to fight with the manager about the criminal padding of my bill. 49 Grove will deservedly go under soon ? ideally before I upload this post so no other poor soul will have to suffer like I did. Never have I seen a place so grossly mismanaged and people in a service job so brazenly, outwardly and unapologetically rude. But like with all other things, what goes around comes around and what?s coming to 49 Grove is bankruptcy. I can only hope there?s a brothel somewhere in the fourth world willing to pay 10 cents on the dollar for those hideous couches and cheesy pile carpet. And so to the staff of 49 Grove I gingerly and with all discretion say, Lower your expectations. If you still want jobs in the hospitality business, get yourself a polyester uniform and paper hat. Sonic has immediate openings at drive-through windows across the south. Cons: Worst place ever more

BEST CLUB IN THE VILLAGE, NO QUESTION 4/26/2007

49 Grove is by far the best club in the Village for a number of reasons. First, the atmosphere. The layout is excellent at 49 Grove. There is a place for everyone, whether it be at the front bar or a table in the back, or on the dance floor, you can always find a place to hang. Second, the staff is above professional and make some killer drinks. They are friendly and don't have the typical NYC club attitude. I love everyone that works there. Finally, the DJ. The music they play here is basically one rump shaking beat after another. You could be there for the entire night and not hear a bad song. That just rounds out this perfect club to make it the best club in the Village and easily one of the best clubs in NYC. It is still a hidden gem, so get to it while you can still get in without having to wait on an hour long line!! more

Grove is an excellent mix of class and fun. 4/25/2007

The drinks are mixed right. (Guys: there are some hot woman in this crowd including the bartender Cindy). The music is nice mixx of house, hip hop, and occasional 80s. I prefer Friday nights because it is not as crowded, and more local people. The security is tight so don't even think of trying a fake ID. (didn't work for a friend). Pros: Class Cons: crowds more

Best place in NYC 4/22/2007

My favorite place in NYC is nowhere but 49 Grove! I can easily loose myself to it whether I'm drinking vodka or beer. I can throw my own private parties anytime I want and I don?t even have to bother decorating the place because it?s already decorated with beautiful blue candles, dimmed lights, 52 inch plasma screens, huge mirrors, stylish tables, buckets, fireplaces, unique wash rooms, and Ralf Lauren style wallpapers. I can celebrate my personal birthday party in one of the three VIP sections within the crowd, separated from everyone else with customized audio sound and services. If I ever get married, I will celebrate my party in 49Grove despite whether I?m single or not because of the upscale services I will be provided. Corporate party, holiday affairs, film premieres, photo shoots, fashion shows and birthday, engagement, wedding and anniversary fetes got nothing on what I will have in 49Grove. If you think you got what it takes, then show me your party! We will take it to the next level. more

A dimonad in the ruff 4/18/2007

Folks if you haven?t been you don?t know what you?re missing. Along with the beautiful decor and the speak-easy environment you, have great management, a beautiful cocktail waitress and bartenders, and a security staff that is second to none. Excellent and reasonably priced drinks and half price bottles after 2am. You can?t go wrong with this place. Just get there early before they reach capacity and bring some ladies! Pros: A-list Clients Cons: Reaches capacity fairly quickly. more

The most exciting place in the village 4/2/2007

I went to 49 Grove last Saturday for my friend's birthday party and was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was another one of those lounges that NYC has anywhere you look, but it turned out to be this amazing spot with great crowd, very polite and helpful staff, and a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. Definately give this place a ten and we'll look into throwing a party in there myself. Pros: Staff and atmosphere Cons: Got a little crowded on Saturday more

good vibe, hot crowd 3/18/2007

My girls and I went to 49 Grove a couple of weekends ago and had an absolute blast!! It was my first time and I couldn't believe how hot the crowd was. I consider myself and my crew nyc hipsters and always attend the best places, so i'm very picky. The music was amazing and the place had an all around awesome vibe. I am definately gonna stop this weekend. Pros: crowd, atmosphere, music Cons: none more
