2A, 2 Floors 10/15/2011

With its unmarked and non-descript exterior, 2A might be easily overlooked upon passing by. The neighborhood dive bar offers a cozy and intimate atmosphere with a distinctive Alphabet City charm. What sets 2A apart from other local bars, however, is its second floor, which unexpectedly turns into an eclectic lounge with sofa and ottoman-style seating, unique floor-to-ceiling window paneling providing a great view, and a film projector which plays classic black and white films on a brick wall across the street. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and the occasional DJ upstairs make this my favorite bar in the city. more

hope to know soon 5/27/2010

Hey, I'm french & I'm coming to New York soon, I was just wondering, dyou think this bar does not let under 21years old people in ? cause well, im 19... \r thanks ! Pros: looks nice Cons: err im 19? more

bar tender jan. jan 29 friday 2010 1/29/2010

the bar tender threatened my friend with violence because he did not understand the free drink system. he then accused my friend of making a rude remark and then threatened to beat my friends face in. Cons: bar tender more

Awful service 11/9/2007

I had a bad experience for happy hour. The waitress was in a bad mood, didn't honor the 2 for 1 special, and gave everyone attitude. Ended up there by chance and don't plan to go back. Cons: service more

Great loungey bar 6/30/2007

Some friends and I randomly ended up at this bar, and thought it was great! There's an upstairs, where we hung out, and two of the walls are windows so you can see out onto the street and it feels really open, and there are plenty of places to sit and put drinks down. There was a decent crowd, but not so much that it felt crowded. Good background music so you can talk to people and just chill. Drinks were well-made too. It's a great place for a more chill night. more

good local bar 10/31/2006

this place attracts locals and hipsters for their strong drinks and mixed crowd, just be careful who you talk to... more

Awesome 7/28/2006

The bartenders are vigilant and ready to take your order the moment you put down your empty glass. more

do not go to 2a 4/1/2006

bartenders are NOTORIOUS for being rude. the bar is alright, but the people who work there are horrible. horrible. not recommended. and it's extremely crowded and hard to get service. i've been there many times and it's always the same scene. don't go. more

I JUST CANT GET ENOUGH 6/2/2004

I go to 2A regularly and i love it. the bartenders are great, the people are interesting and low key. i recommend it if you are down with the east village scene...that doesnt include upper east siders looking to party in the village. this bar is true to its roots and its staying that way. Pros: great service, cool crowd, great location more

warriors 5/9/2003

why are you reading this.......get your a** down to 2a on wed or friday for some great tunes and good people. the bartender, knows the deal and there's no waiting 20 minutes for a drink. it will be in front of you before you even decide what you want to drink. Pros: people, drinks, music more

home away from home. 4/12/2003

if youre in search of a venue to call your home on wed and fri nights, i strongly suggest this bar. my reasoning? one word: GEORGE. this man dominates on wednesdays and fridays....and you can only find him at the upstairs bar at 2A. the bar is low-key, no attitude, GREAT music and favulous drinks (compliments of George's impeccable taste in both areas). the shots (key lime, choco pie, kamikazes, etc etc) are a delight that warrant making this bar a mandatory stop, but its the perfectly mixed dirty martinis that keep me coming back again and again for more. that and the fact that youre bound to run into many an interesting character if you hang out long enough... Pros: great music, perfect drinks, awesome bartender Cons: you may never leave, if drunk, steep steps more

Lots of character 4/11/2003

If you haven't been to 2a on a Wednesday or Friday, you absolutely must go check it out. The music is fab, the scene is fun, and George, well enough said. Pros: great bartenders, laid back, good music more

Ms. Sarah 4/11/2003

You'll never experience 2A until you go UPSTAIRS on Wednesdays and Fridays! George is a true mixologist -- trust me, you'll go home happy as a clam (just watch out for those stairs on your way down). Pros: Great location, Awesome service more

2A- A place you'll want to stay... 4/9/2003

2A is the best bar in NYC! Okay... so maybe that's an overstatement, but the upstairs area really kicks on Wednesday and Friday nights when George rips it up behind the bar. His chocolate cake and key lime pie shots can't be beat and his music and video selections are top notch as well, Dark Crystal set to Human League, doesn't get much better than that. The crowd in this place can be iffy at best so keep your eyes focused behind the bar and away from the pleated/tapered dockers that tend to riddle the floor. OH and best of all, you can be sure to find plenty of Georgie's Girls to hang with or stare at! Pros: George the bartender, Music/Atmosphere, Georgie's Girls Cons: Bad dressing dudes, Bad dancers more

Lower east side dive (in a good way) 1/20/2003

The place is a good little neighborhood bar that turns into a bit of a hot spot late nights on the weekend. Not too much bar space, but plenty of couch space, if that's your scene. Two floors, two bars ensure reasonably fast service. The staff is friendly enough. Definitely stop in if you're just looking for a beer during the week--there's a happy hour, but it's not so popular. more

Decent with great couches 11/4/2002

This is a decent venue, with 2 floors, decent drinks and great couches upstairs! It gets quite crowded at around midnight and the crowd is mixed - some hipsters early on and mostly international Yuppie types later on. All in all, not a bad place, but not overly fantastic either. more

Where regulars drink... 10/23/2002

I may be bias but I drink here with my wife a few times a week for the spectacular happy hour. We are very comfortable there with the bartenders and the other regulars. To be honest I hope this place never becomes popular...(why an I writing this?) Oh! I love 2A! The view is great! Pros: Cheap Happy Hour, Great View, Comfortable Cons: Happy Hour Ends, Smokey more

bring your own drinks 5/29/2002

2a has a lovely happy hour and nice couches and big windows but EVERY time I go there the service is abominable. The reason the bartender's there is to give you a drink, right? Not at 2a. I guess they're just paid to putter about behind the bar and ignore people who want drinks. Outside of happy hour the beer's kind of expensive, and the mixed drinks have no booze in them. Dang. I wish I liked going to this bar, but I just don't. Pros: chill atmosphere, happy hour Cons: bad service, bad mixed drinks more

doing something right 5/20/2002

This place is always packed--the music is booming in the upstairs bar (check out the comfy couches), and downstairs has more of a neighborhood pub feel. more
