cozy, great food, great service 5/7/2006

haven't been here in a little bit, but went 3 times last year! we really loved it. the first time i sat at the bar with a couple girlfriends b/c they were booked out. the food was really good and the waitress was just as good about taking care of us as if we were at a table. and when we couldn't decide which wine to order, she offered us a free sampling of two of them (they have their liquor license now)! the next time, i took my husband and he loved the smoked chicken fettucine (it's WAYYYYYYYYY better than it sounds). i ordered the pork chop, which i guess is their specialty. it was very good. again, the service was wonderful and the waiter really knowledgeable and helpful about wines. again, he gave us a little sample to help us decide. my husband raved all the way home about the fettucine (i kept thinking, "this is just fettucine! geez!") the third time, we brought a couple friends and jim talked one of them into the fettucine. so i tried some of hers and i have to admit, it was FREAKIN' GOOD. i don't know what it was, but it's not just chicken fettucine. there's sundried tomatoes, pine nuts and other goodies in there and the sauce just makes it. i had the first so-so dish i've had there...i think it was lamb. but i love lamb and i was craving it. but it turned out not so good. but it was my fault b/c i did ask the waiter like i always do for recommendations and when i asked about the lamb, he said he'd probably pass on it, but i really wanted lamb for some reason that night and i should've listened to him. at least he was honest and accurate. :) i think it was something about the sauce--it was weird. anyway, i'd still go back! but there are too many great places in honolulu i haven't tried yet! more

Did not live up to its expectations 8/20/2005

I have heard so much about this restaurant, so we decided to try it out. The restaurant did not have a liquor license so we brought our own bottle of wine. Most of the selections were meats, although the chef's specialty was some kind of "sting ray?" I had the Korean marinated steak (about $18 dollars). It was okay, but I could have gotten a Korean Kal Bi plate at a take out restaurant for one third the price that would have been just as good. more

Cheap dining, good food 8/6/2005

This place is definitely hidden away in Kaimuki. But despite being a hole in the wall restraurant, they have a distinct sense of elegance and decorative interior. The food here is also constantly changing. New dishes and special are add and changed daily. This makes it continually fresh for regulars. For others who like eating the samething, they also have a standard menu. more
