Best

The barbecued chicken came with the best mashed potatoes and gravy I've had in 50 years, along with an enormous salad and decent coffee, and the chicken proved outstanding. A fla...

Ate here for breakfast. Nothing special. Just ordinary food. Not worth a return trip. Cons: breakfast, parking, ambiance

Best turkey burger ever... not to mention the awesome service!! 11/7/2006

I just moved into the neighborhood and decided to go and have dinner here. I ordered the turkey burger and onion rings - and for dessert, cherry pie with vanilla ice cream. First, the service was fantastic!!! My waitress was friendly(very cool!)and the food came in a timely manner. The food was excellent - turkey burger tasted like I grilled it myself, the onion rings crispy-crunchy AND the dessert was the best part. The cherry pie had that fresh warm homemade taste and the vanilla ice cream was REAL - you know the kind... The atmosphere is cool, all different kinds of people and great music to boot! The best part: this meal did not break my bank! I had such an amazing experience that I'm going to make it a habit to eat here at least once a week if not more. Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere Cons: can't think of any! more

Good shakes 10/31/2006

I've always wanted to sit in a booth along the windows here but they're always full! The nut 'n honey shake is insanely good, chocolate malt is good too. Don't taste artificial like most shakes you'll find elsewhere. more

Ridiculously horrible service and the rudest waiter in Los Angeles 10/28/2006

My wife and I used to go to 101 Coffee Shop regularly until today (2/24/08). We stopped by at 1:00 am today and sat at a booth. One of the waiters, a bearded man, told us that the booth was ""reserved"" although there was no one else in sight. He came back to remind us that we needed to move. Then, our waitress showed up and took our order. She said nothing about the booth being reserved, so we stayed. The other rude waiter avoided us the rest of the time because he realized he was being riduculous. When the club sandwich arrived, it was cold and stale. I am never going back to this place again. The rude waiter didn't even apologize for trying to make us move. This isn't a 5 star restaurant and I don't think you can ""reserve"" tables here. I would rather pick up some fast food than go back to this place. Thank you for ruining this restaurant for us. This goes out to the waiter with the beard who ""served"" us on Sunday at 1:00 am in the morning. Two years of loyalty to 101 Coffee Shop are down the drain because of you. Cons: SERVICE (watch out for the bearded waiter!) more

pictures on the wall creep me out 6/19/2006

I used to love this place before it was sold a few years ago. The ""new"" owners promptly put 70's style school pictures, creating a scary, dismal, creepy vibe. The food is alright, good breakfast. But those pictures! Scary! Pros: diner food rocks Cons: flip flop, yawning, five o'clock shadow crowd more

great people watching and coffee 4/30/2006

So, i do really like this place- very kitschy and cute- i really prefer the legit diners like raes and nicks etc that have authentic midcentury design but 101 does a great job of emulating it as well as having the benefit of a cleaner, newer space that is not grease laden yet. I like 101 a lot- always cute people and good people watching in the morning. the food is good, not great. their hashbrowns are pretty bad- they are generally a really thick clump of potatos that are warm on the inside but well done on top- i would suggest getting another side and you will be fine. I love their carafes of coffee so you can eat uninterrpted with friends pouring away. all in all a good back up breakfast place wih good ambience. Pros: cute design, boys in tight shirts, coffee Cons: ok service, parking, too cool for school? more

LA diners gonna have to do 1/18/2006

this is exactly how I would have expected an LA diner to roll. the feel of the place is classic US diner a la happy days. everyone seemed to be pitching either for business or film rolls at all the tables. The food and the juke box are the main attractions, with both being food value for money and have damn good taste. one down side is people hogging the booths after they have finished eating. In scotland, we would physically evict them! Highly recommended!!!!! Pros: food, ambience, music Cons: booth hoggers more

Breakfast is nothing special 6/26/2003

Ate here for breakfast. Nothing special. Just ordinary food. Not worth a return trip. Cons: breakfast, parking, ambiance more

A REAL diner. 4/28/2003

This place is really good. Having read the other reviews, I've gotta admit that I've never eaten anything from the breakfast menu here, but I've had a burger and fries, soups and their *delish* ice creams and shakes. The only minor b*tch I have is that when I go there on the weekend, the services is a lot slower than usual. Pros: Good value, Clean, Good atmosphere Cons: Limited parking more

Good Eats! 12/1/2002

One of my favorite spots in Hollywood, and it's open late! Great dimly lit, cozy, atmosphere in the evening along with one of the best jukeboxes in town. I'd reccommend the blackened chicken sandwich or turkey club. Chai Tea milkshake is also very good. The fries are the best I've had almost anywhere. They are a mix of regular potato fries and yam fries sprinkiled with sea saly. YUM! Pros: cozy, good food, great atmosphere more

I love this place!!! 11/9/2002

The atmosphere is so cozy you'll never want to leave. My boyfriend and I come here, after 11pm usually, and end up spending hours here. The food is way too good to pass up. And they have the yummiest Chi Tea Latte MILKSHAKE! yummm!!!! Pros: Relaxing atmosphere, Great food, Great prices more

Now that's a diner! 10/18/2002

Comfy booths, energetic and affable waitstaff, truckstop-esque food... this place really has it all. If you come for great macaroni and cheese or a chance to be blown away by visiting another place that was in Swingers, you will be sorely disappointed. However, if you want to spend an relaxed Sunday eating food served by a waitress who really seems like she cares... then this is the spot. Only the Strong will mess with the Fish Dinner. Pros: Relaxed, Comfortable Cons: Food, Parking more

Take the 101 somewhere else!! 10/12/2002

went to this place this morning for breakfast...my god! the food was terrible. service was good along with the decor but, if the food sucks there's no hope. Pros: Inexpensive, Decor Cons: Food, parking more

Just like Mom used to make 8/8/2002

Real mashed potatoes with homemade gravy. Baked mac and cheese. Huge dinner salads with a variety of veggies and homemade salad dressings. Just a few of the delectable choices at the best casual restaurant in town. More east coast than Cali. Much better food and larger potions than the previous tenant. Best of all, open til 3AM! Draws neigborhood artists, actors and musicians that want great food for a fair price. Pros: homemade food, open late, parking Cons: ? more

Very cool place! 7/15/2002

I would be at a coffee shop like this every morning just for the atmosphere! I have a 3 year old and he loved it! Pros: very inviting, interesting people, inexpensive Cons: crowded more

Expecting More 5/21/2002

I ate here recently and I have to say I was expecting more. I ordered the fried egg sandwich with bacon. Something that greasy needs to taste a lot better to justify the calorie intake. The waitress was really nice, so I might be willing to give it one more shot. I just won't order anything off the breakfast menu. more
