My Favorite Italian Kiss 6/22/2009

New York Pizza right over here 12/5/2007

It's on rte #9 heading north towards Snohomish, on your right. LIttle tiny sign on the place, you might miss it, but just turn around and go back. Thin, crispy crust with juicy high-end stuff on it. Just right. You eat the whole thing and you're full but not bloated. You can almost feel the cold Atlantic Ocean behind you and the NY skyline out there. If you're not yet familiar with NY pizza-makers, think mad-scientists! They are so into their recipes they will go to any lengths to get it "right". They don't have any interest in marketing or public relations. This can seem like they hate you, but that's not true. Their whole idea is how good can a human being make a pizza? Is it as good as their Father's? What about the old country, is it that good? What about all the pizza in NY, the world, are we that good? Why not? You get the idea. That is for YOUR benefit. Great pizza like this is for your stomach, not your social status..so sit tight, it's coming. Tony's from the old country, Palermo, Sicily and a nicer guy you could never meet. Relita, his wife, is a sweet lady who loves animals and is concerned about the wilderness disappearing. Tony had a lot of cleaning up after the flood at home, but Relita begged him on the phone to come in and make Cannoli's people would be wanting them. In a few minutes he showed up! They care. A lot. Together, they have made something available far from its home. It may look just like pizza, but you try it and see what you think. Bob Luhrs more

Pizza: The Worlds Favortie food 6/22/2007

Okay, at my place of work lots of the folks are from the east coast. My step mother is from Jersey. I have heard all my life about NY pizza this, NY pizza that. I was intrigued. I drove by this little restaurant everyday for a year on my way to work, and thought the hand made signs were tacky. You know this story is going somewhere. They have, hands down, the tastiest pies around. They do not skimp one bit on the cheesy toppings. The cheese, and garlic blend is so dang good. The bright spirits that run the joint make you appreciate the food even more. GO HERE, GO HERE, GO HERE. It's about 8 minutes north of the Woodinville Costco. more

Real East Coast NY Style Pizza 4/8/2006

Hello My name is Tony and I was born on Long Island, NY. I have lived in Washington since 1996 and love the area. Unfortunately, either I am used to East Coast food or folks from these parts lack taste buds:) If you feel like I do about food then you must visit Tony & Relita at #1 NY Pizza. It is hard to see off to the East and set back from Hwy 9. Fantastic pizza and a small line of dinners are available. They do make Calzones too! You can stop in for a slice and a soda the way it is done back East. Call to check on current hours of operation just to make sure. They are usually closed Sunday and Monday. Waddya think, everybody has to have a day off:) more

For the home sick East -Coaster.... 2/23/2006

I moved here from Philly 4 years ago and was disgusted to see what passes for pizza out here. Alfy's? Come on people - I had better pizza at roller skating parties in grade school! Then I drove by the handmade signs made out of old boxes - yep, that's east coast pizza decor. Sure enough, the best pizza I've had in years. Not just for Washington- even better than most of my old hang outs. Eat your food there and get to know Tony and Rialta - the conversation's as good as the pizza- just don't ask for pineapple 'cause I'm pretty sure they'll throw you out! more

Real New York pizza. I swear. 6/13/2005

Having tried all of the recommended “new york pizza” restaurants in Seattle, I can confirm that no, there is no good NY-style pizza to be had here. Sure, there’s stuff that can kill a craving, but there’s nothing close to the real thing. The real thing can be had, however, at #1 New York Pizza in Clearview. This little tiny place is owned by Tony and Relita, a retired couple from Queens. Relita is charming and hospitable, and Tony is doggedly guarding the western frontier of New York pizzeria tradition. #1NY’s pizzas have a crisp chewy crust, flat slices with whole milk mozarella, perfect tomato sauce, traditional toppings, and the right amount of genuine pizza grease. Tony’s white pizza is outstanding. Get a calzone to take home. They also make handmade cannolis, made to order on the spot. The pizzeria is a few miles north of Snohomish in a tiny tiny tiny little shop. Take I-405 to SR-522 east, then exit to US-9 northbound and go a few miles until you see the stop light for 180th. (Really. I know it looks like the middle of nowhere.) Right after that, look for the green Produce sign by the road and turn right into the parking lot. If you’ve ever been to the Maltby cafe, this is just a few miles away. Whatever you do, don’t ever, ever ask for pineapple. more
